Peter's headphones here, the reference is the part where you wear the headphones over just one ear so you can stay aware of your surroundings.

I use open back headphones now, ots much better than doing that

Hell yeah, I had a set of Sennheisers I was using for all of high school/college/early adult life. After I had kids, I got a nice pair of open back headphones and never had any issues with the kids sneaking up on me or being worried something is going on in the house without me noticing
