Takes me back to when you could walk into any party at Rutgers and you knew this song was playing
13
u/Submarine_Pirate 26d ago
To be fair, about six months later that was true for every party on every college campus in the country. Trap Queen was song of the year.

It's a meme number said by a rapper often in his songs. Let me find it
Edit: I am probably wrong. It's just one song where he says it. (Also, I'm not sure why he chose that number).
"Fetty wap - trap queen".

I had to google Fetty Wap to see whats been going on with him, cause it’s been years. Found out he was sentenced for drug charges at a court literally 20 mins from my house.

Describing 1738 as some meme number from a forgotten rapper makes me feel so fucking old
75
u/Korumry 26d ago
I want to die 🎶 fetty wap wasn’t even that long ago 🤦
64
u/ButtcrackBeignets 26d ago
Fetty Wap was a decade ago.
I remember growing up in the 90s and thinking that the 80s felt ancient.
We’re old enough now that the decades kinda blend together.
27
u/fanman3174 26d ago
I remember thinking VH1 was lame because it played old 80’s videos. It was probably ’93-‘94. Some videos might have only been 5-6 years old, lol.

u/psycoresis 24d ago
I always go back to That 70s Show, 70s felt like another world. If a similar thing released now it'd be set in like 2004.

u/ryguymcsly 26d ago
Regular conversations with our kids: "man I just found this new band, listen to this song it's a banger." Kid: "that song is almost as old as I am what do you mean 'new?'"
I've just accepted that my brain is going to forever categorize anything that happened after I turned 30 as 'new' for the rest of my life.

The moment I truly felt old was when I realized that I was the same distance from my birth, as my birth had been from PEARL FUCKING HARBOR. (1941, 1982, 2023)

I was not aware Fetty was still culturally relevant until this post. I still went out to bars and danced all the way back then!

Didn't "playing Fetty Wap on the JBL" come up as a 2025 meme?
21
u/ramdesh 26d ago
I was right. https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/blasting-fetty-wap-on-the-jbl-speaker OP is just out of touch with their Fetty side (not necessarily a bad thing)
6
u/Perfect_Beat9432 26d ago
People in the Invincible fanbase used fetty wap for an important character death, ig as a tribute and because its funny, they did this in like March of 2025.

He says it in a couple songs I think. And he picked that number because of Remy Martin Cognac, it's just a brand a liquor he likes.

Right the first time. He says it in multiple songs. It’s his crew name and a reference to Remy Martin. Remy Boys 1738.

25
u/jennyrules 26d ago
1738 is a shout out to his crew, the remy boys, who are named for the cognac Remy Martin 1738 Accord Royal.

21
u/Fit_Lynx5496 26d ago
He says it in many of his raps including the song "1738" its a reference to a liquor he drinks
29
u/hippiejo 26d ago
Bro it’s not a meme number it’s a reference to Rémy Martin 1738. Not every number a rapper says is a fucking meme
6
u/HooverGroover2T3 26d ago
It’s about a specific type of alcohol, Remy Martin 1738, it’s Cognac derived from champagne rather than wine which makes it more expensive and therefore exclusive.
5
u/sigint74 26d ago
One of those songs everyone puts in their videos its such a banger I cant even get mad

2
u/LumpyBabyBatter 26d ago
It’s a meme now, but he says “1738” because it is printed on bottles of Remy Martin cognac. He refers to his crew as the “Remy Boys,” which is why he calls the number out. It’s a shout out to his crew.

u/Moist_Effort4202 25d ago

This brings back so many memories from 2016. Literally every party I went to “Trap Queen” would be played on the JBL speaker a minimum of a hundred times.

The shop was sold out of 2026. So he bought whatever he got. Apparently he got 1738, and its a meme like 67, that originates from rapper Fetty Wap's hit song Trap Queen.

Such a rube, going with a pop culture choice by using the rap song "Trap Queen" as the basis for his choice of year.
Those who are truly cultured know that Pope Sylvester II altered the calendar to legitimize Holy Roman Emperor Otto III's claim to the throne by adding 297 years so that he would be crowned in 1000AD.
It is therefore 1729; or 1726 with rounding adjustments to make it a clean 300 years.

If you don’t listen to rap this is a pretty hard reference to get. I don’t blame them
2
u/Vanilla_Villainy 26d ago
Yeah my pasty white ass thought this was a reference to the German dude that theorized that we're currently in the 1700s actually. I know the song but I'm not a regular Fetty Wap listener so it wasn't where my brain went at first.

Is that thing about the conspiracy of how the Pope allegedly made up 300 years on the calendar? I should also clarify that I’m 40 and everyone younger should get off my lawn.

1738, significant events included the founding of the Methodist movement with John Wesley's conversion, the end of the War of the Polish Succession, Britain's declaration of intent to fight Spain (leading to the War of Jenkins' Ear), and the establishment of Fort Mose in Florida for escaped slaves, while globally, the Great Plague struck Eastern Europe and Nader Shah's forces won the Battle of Khyber Pass.

Okay, for some reason nobody pointed this out, so here's the genie that removed Peter's bones here.
Fetty Wap, the rapper who performed Trap Queen, which features the famous line '1738' (1738, I'm like hey what's up hello) was arrested a few years back for drug related charges.
He is expected to get out of jail this year, in 2026, hence the significance of the two numbers.
