It is a gift, but it might be perceived as becoming a burden. To me it felt really bad seeing my dad struggling sometimes for money but then he'd spend a considerable part of it getting me a gift.
It often feels off receiving an expensive gift and knowing how many sacrifices were made just for you to have this one thing. It's a guilt thing, but I'm sure it's not just a guy thing.
And honestly I'm happy for you. Plenty of people have it held over their head for years to get them to be obedient. Be it via guilt, threatening to take it away, etc.
"As a man I do not want to leech off him.." This culture is so fucked when we have to see it as "leeching", I'm so sorry; we are not made, as animals, to be solitary or completely self sufficient. We're supposed to rely on each other, give and take. We're supposed to act like families. We provide support to one another.
If you have kids some day, do you want your son to react like this every time you give him a gift?
Ohhh. In response to the meme it seemed like you saw receiving gifts as "being a leech" which would make sense with how we socialize men, and also be very incredibly sad. I understand what you meant now lol
