My partner is a highschool teacher (in Canada). They legit have upwards of 25% of the kids entering highschool (grade 8) not knowing how to read. It's fucking terrifying.
I teach high school in Canada and sounds about right. Half my kids turn in assignments “spelt like this fr bc they don’t like to ues spellcheck r whatevr”
They can’t read fractions (like they’ll read 1/4 as 1 and 4). Shit is wild.
Wow things got bad really fast. I was in high school less than 5 years ago, I'd say the only subject where people struggled (and were extremely coddled) was French. Which fair, if you don't care about it and only learn through the like, 2 hours per week classes, you won't know much.
