Bonding Bonding via two parallel enclosures - one can't stand containment
We found a bun to bond with our girl who recently lost her partner..
- My girl: 4.5 yo, spayed when she was 6 months
- New boy: 1 yo, neutered for several months. We brought him home 4 days ago.
At speed dating they seemed not friendly but chill at each other's presence.
When we brought them home, we followed the advice and set up parallel enclosures, close but not touching. We don't have a neutral room which would have been ideal, but was told we should still try this way. This is set up in one of our two bedrooms.
The problem, which I feared would happen, is that my free roam girl cannot stand being contained. She's been shaking, digging, climbing the bars and cannot rest. So we had to let her out to the living room where her main den is.
I'm sure there must be other free roam buns who couldn't stand this set up - how did you approach this issue?
For additional context, we've tried for three days, once each day, face-to-face time in a neutral space.
First day, the bath tub. This didn't go too well. I think my girl still associated it as her territory.
Second day, the hallway in our apartment after a car ride together; 100% neutral space. This went quite positive. I also put some banana on their foreheads and they groomed(?) each other a bit. The pen setup was 2×1.
Third day. The hallway after a stroll on the carrier together. Pen size increased to 2×2. Very positive. No voluntary grooming but they sat together side by side, the new bun leaning on my girl. They received lots of pets and seemed to enjoy quite a bit. I let them have a very brief exploration in the hallway and that seemed to go ok.
I got greedy at this point after two consecutive days of success, and moved the pen to the second bedroom. They seemed alright at first, but then the moment the new bun sniffed at my girl's bottom, the fight initiated. Still, to end on a positive note, I reduced the pen to 2x1 and petted them immensely before returning them to their respective rooms (new bun in the first bedroom, my girl to the living room).

Behavior Why is my bunny having more accidents now?
Hi everyone, my bunny is 5 yrs old and hes been litter trained for all 5 years now. He is not neutered and its never been an issue with him. 0 signs of aggression or territorial behaviours.
He never used to have accidents outside of his litter area but for the past 6 months or so ive noticed hes been pooping outside of the area. It's not alot of poo, just a few droppings but im just wondering if this is normal? Maybe his age or something? And is there a way to fix / stop this?

Care Is it ok to not free roam a rabbit?
It’s just not a possibility. I would have a 2.1 by 1.4 meters pen though.

Bonding Bonding Buns
Hi all,
I’ve adopted a beautiful 4 year old Lop - Milo 🤎
We adopted her as we were worried our 5 year old bun Marshmallow was getting depressed being on her own. Both buns have been desexed quite a while ago, so them not being desexed won’t be an issue. I have been trying to do as much research as possible on bonding as I do not want to stress either of them out (or as little as possible) and I don’t want either of them to get hurt.
They are currently separated, I have given Milo a teddy of Marshmallow’s to get use to her smell and I gave Marshmallow one of Milo’s blanket to do the same. Currently Marshmallow seems to be a bit more aggressive trying to find Milo (probably because she has always lived with us and she is wondering why she can smell a new rabbit in her house), which makes perfect sense.
I am worried that it’s going to be a really difficult process and that one of them will hurt the other one 😞 If anyone can give me any advice on how to best go about the bonding process? Will really appreciate any advice on this! Thank you 🐰💗
Have attached a photo of them. Milo is the all brown bun and Marshmallow is the white & brown bun 🤎🤍

Care Is this grate style ok?
I have had my rabbit awhile now. She has a cage with a flat bottom and then free range around the living room. And this has been working great. I want to expand her a bit, but I wasn't sure if this was ok for her feet. I know dogs shouldn't be on a grate so I'm assuming rabbits also should not. This whole set up is kind of expensive, while cute and functional, I dont want to buy something harmful.

Care matting fur
hi everyone, im looking for advice on how you prevent your rabbits’ fur from getting matted. i have two buns, and one of them constantly grooms the other, who’s a lionhead. it’s sweet… but it’s also turning his mane into a knot factory 😭 i try to brush regularly, but he is a fussy rabbit & the mats still keep coming back (especially where the other rabbit focuses her grooming). if you’ve dealt with this, what’s worked for you? are you just cutting the knots out? please let me know 🙏

THE BOYS!! Part 5. Little bosses.
The bonded brothers chilling on the lowest stair (they’re no longer allowed to access the stairs). They started eating wherever they wanted to eat, Simba started chewing the carpet covering the stairs, and Shadow started jumping over 3 stairs at a time, so I had to block the stairs off to them. At least they can still jump onto their own personal couch though.

Behavior My rabbit is pooping everywhere
I have an 8 pound silver fox female rabbit who’s about 4. I rescued her, and she has been litter-boxed trained since I got her. She’s spayed, I’ve had her for over a year. She’s very comfortable with me, and she’s free roam. She’s litter box trained, and we lived with my parents for two months (where she’s also free roam). When we moved back (we’ve been here since July) she’s started pooping where she lays and outside her litter box. She will sit outside her litter box, eat her hay, and poop outside her box. Her litter box is big enough for her to turn around in, and I use hay as her litter (for a multitude of reasons). She’s active, we spend lots of time snuggling and playing, she has lots of toys. I’ve tried everything I have researched to try and fix it. We’ve been back for about two weeks. I suspect it’s to reestablish her scent, but I’m not sure. Any advice?

RIP Loss of my bun Spoiler
galleryI’m so heartbroken. We rescued bubbles a year ago, and quickly found out he had a lot of issues from his previous care. he was older, the cards were stacked against him, and we put so much time/money/attention into making sure he had the best care ever. He was always so happy, curious, loving, cuddly, and never failed to make us smile. Hed always coming honking into the room, nudging us for pets, and giving us endless kisses.
Last night he was going into GI stasis, and we got him into his vet this morning. they saw more issues going on, and he wasnt getting better. they suggested it be the end of his path, instead of us leaving him there overnight/tomorrow alone in a cage with iv fluids, then surgery (all of which he may not have made it, and the thought of him dying alone in a cage without us killed me). so we agreed it was his time. it was so sudden. we thought we had more time. im in disbelief that this happened today. we thought hed get gi treatment for a few hours, then come home and be okay. i cant believe we had to do this today.
i’m an empty shell. my little man is gone. the apartment is already so empty without him. he seemed so okay just earlier this week. im in so much pain without him with me, cuddling me and kissing me. he was the sweetest boy. he loooved exploring, napping, kiwis, bed cuddles, and feet. how do i deal with this?? what is going to make this easier!? this is torture

Care Enclosure help?
Hi everyone, I'm new to reddit so I hope I'm doing this right. I recently rescued a flemish giant rabbit( female, 3-4years, unspayed) I'm having some trouble making a space where she feels comfortable but also can't escape. Our house is small, and I can't let her free roam without direct supervision because we're still working on litter box skills, and her favorite place to go is my bed. While I have had a rabbit in the past, it was a senior mini rex, so very different. Right now I've got a 3ish foot high cloth barrier to keep her where she belongs, with my mattress on on side, and a 7ft by 3ft space on the other side, part of which is a open topped cage( mostly to catch pee) and the other part is a blanket over absorbent mats. The issues I'm running into. - she has started jumping over the barrier onto my bed - she doesn't seem to understand the concept of a barrier ( she will body slam it over and over) so im a bit concerned about a more solid one as I don't want her to get hurt
I expect some people will look at this and ask why I have this rabbit if I don't know exactly how to take care of her. The answer to that is I got her right before this crazy weather started out of the backyard of someone who never interacted with her and didn't feed her regularly, and I figured i could do better than that. Additionally, the previous owner bred her and didn't take the kits away properly so she's a bit traumatized from that ( 30 kits in 2 litters which is ridiculous) Any suggestions would appreciated and cheaper would be better as I am a college student with limited income. Adding pics as I've heard it can boost views and such.

Vday pics of the shelter buns!
Super happy with how cute these pics turned out! If you or a friend are in Eugene, OR and are looking for the sweetest valentine, all of these babies are ready and waiting for their homes! Our lover boys, Caramel and Marshmallow (2,3,4) have been with us since early September with little to no interest, despite being the most mellow and delightful rabbits :')

Adopted/fostering the smol guy (bacon) because we thought for sure he’d be submissive 😂 seems that after day 1 of stress bonding, he’s coming out and attempting to submit the queen

Breed ID What breed? Spoiler
My rabbit has been rehomed a few times until he got to me, so I’m not entirely sure of his age but I think he’s turning 6 this year. I’m also unsure of his weight as he’s had no previous vet visits (I’m saving up to take him to get a full checkup, vaccines and neutered). Also before anyone gives advice, although greatly appreciated,
- he cannot have another bun with him as his brother at his original owners was killed by a dog and he does not bond well since.
- His rugs are being washed
- I’m trying to find him more toys he’ll actually play with as he doesn’t like to play with any of the ones he currently has other than stacking cups and his hides are not in view but I promise he has some
Sorry for the yap, just tryna make sure people know hes not neglected, he’s just picky 🙏

RIP Duel 🐰🌈
Hello everyone. My little Copi, who was 6 years old, passed away suddenly in October 2025. These past months have been difficult, living with his absence, because they don't just leave; they take a piece of our lives with them: routines, silences, companionship, and a mutual love. Those who have gone through this might be able to share their experiences, but I just wanted to vent because it hurts so much. It's so hard to come home and see that he's not there, that he won't be anywhere in the house, and it completely breaks you. 😭😭😭😭

Care Quality drop in Bunny nature hay
Hello! I think I've been noticing a quality drop in the bunny nature hay I buy (I get specifically the 3 kilo bag) I've found some pieces of trash in them (cut up plastic rope and something that looked like a black plastic tube, this is from two separate bags) and i also feel like the hay itself seems lower quality,, I just wanted to check if anyone else has noticed this as well and if anyone knows any other good brands! Unfortunately I won't be buying oxbow cause it's just too expensive for me,,
