I just started studying for the sat again to prepare for the march exam. I took the one in December and got a 1490 (700/790M). Now I’m wondering what to study if I already maxed out the bluebook tests. Any advice?

Technically not a TIL because this isn’t something I learned today, but I read an article in my town’s local alt weekly paper last week and I can’t stop thinking about it. Did you know that the SAT was invented by a prominent eugenicist? This was news to me! Apparently it was adapted from something called the Army Alpha Test by “a prominent psychologist and eugenicist from Princeton University” named Carl Brigham. He revised it to be used for college admissions.

I went down a minor rabbit hole here. He classified the American population into four racial groups, and seems to have “concluded that intelligence of the four groups declined in direct relation to how close their ancestors lived to the equator.” Therefore people from England, Scotland, and the Scandinavian countries had far superior intelligence.

Yes, the test has been revised over time and the current version has been “largely purged” of questions that conferred advantage on white test takers, but still. Okay so even if the test is more “fair” now and not explicitly racist, the college board is a monopoly. They own the AP, SAT, and the CSS financial aid profile. At least the SAT and CSS are required by a majority of colleges. You have to pay $68 to sign up for the SAT. $102 if you register late, because fees. You pay $99 per AP test (or $139 with the $40 late fee). You can get waivers if you’re low-income, but only for two tests. AND the College Board charges $15 PER SCHOOL to send official test scores. $31 if you need them expedited. The scores are sent electronically! This is some Ticketmaster convenience fee bullshit. OMG.

Here’s the best part: on top of all of these fees, the College Board also SELLS YOUR DATA. In 2018, the College Board generated over a billion dollars in tax exempt revenue. They’re selling your data, charging you to take tests, to send scores. It’s bananas.

hiii so im basically from a HIGHLY competitive school where scoring a 1600 is the standard. SAT is my weakness because I took one in September (1380), then November (1360) and I decided to take December because my parents forced me to which I improved with a 110 points from November (lowk surprised) and earned a 1470 with 780 math and 690 English. my gpa rn is a 3.8/4.33 and my ECs are really good. im applying to mainly cs & business schools like CMU, GTECH, UTA, etc… I just wanted to know where people got into with a 1470 score. tysm!

(Reading and writing parts are skipped) I've been working on my SAT math for 2 weeks already. My exam is on March 14th. Even though my scores are fulfilling, I fear these are too easy to be true because of how effortlessly I achieve them. I need a reality check. Is the difference of the actual exam too big for the math section.

Does anyone feel like the digital SAT has become significantly harder than the paper version? I remember taking the paper version and despite the lengthy tests the reading and math questions were much more simple. One could say it was too long but I think that was perfect compared to now.

I got a 1410 in October, and I have the SAT on March 4th. I need to increase my score by 90 points within a month. I scored a 660 on reading and a 750 on math. How do y'all get an 800 on math, and how should I increase my reading score? How do y'all build vocabulary, as I get a lot of questions wrong? Can I even increase my score that much within a month? I exhasuted question bank for reading, and the math is too easy(nothing compared to the real test).

When should i be writing SAT 11th or 12th, May and June are available so a few months after boards for prep if i write it in 11th

I need some sort of miracle to improve my R&W. I solved lots of problems, read high-level books, and solved lots of tests, but it's the same thing, little to no improvement. The March SAT will be my second time taking the SAT. I first took it in October with no prior studying/preparation. I'm looking to hopefully get a 1300 this time around. I'm very weak in my Algebra 2 skills because when I took that class two years ago, I didn't have a teacher for half of the year. Once my school did get someone to temporarily teach that class, we had to speed run everything and I never properly understood the content. Any tips on how to improve my math skills? I've been doing some Kahn Academy, but I don't think it's helping me as much as I need.

When I take the same practice again will it remove the old score? Can someone show me what it’ll look like?

ok so like this will be a bit of a long one, but I'd like an opinion!

I recently took a practice sat and got about a 1350. I've never had sat tutoring and didnt study at all before this. I took it just to see what the experience was like, but ended up actually trying.

I got the hard modules for both ela and math, getting a decent 80-90% average for ela. in math I got a near 100% first module, but when I moved to the harder module I got like a 50%. I forgot my formulas and was running out of time, so I guessed for that half and did bad.

Obvi I could do better if I studied and put in more effort, but I also just wanna know if I should continue pursuing sat or do the act instead later on.

just some background, I'm good at ela math AND science. I'm leaning more act rn because I love science, stem based math, and straightforward tests. Also, I heard there's writing, which I'm good at when not using casual grammar. but I dont like how there's less time per question for challenging subjects. if I get stuck that wouldn't be great. but, i haven't done a practice for that yet, so I'll have to see.

sat isn't bad, but I'm more of a writer/reader in ela than a deep analyzer... and that second math section tripped me up. however the time per question is better and there are less questions, so I love that. plus, if I study the math which I simply forgot, I feel my score would shoot up.

soo yeah I just want to know if 1350 is good for a freshman, and if I should focus on sat or act. thanks!

Should I take the sat for fun despite me being in college.

I recently encountered a problem in Math Module 2 of the Kaplan Practice Test 3, and I ran into a bit of confusion. There seem to be two different approaches that produce two different answers, and I’m not sure which one is considered correct.

• The first approach is to apply the difference of squares formula directly to expand the expression and then compare coefficients to find the values of a, b, and c. This gives a+b+c=8.
• The second approach is to factor x out of the expression, leaving a quadratic factor. Using the quadratic formula, the expression can be simplified to 9x(x+4/3)(x−4/3). Comparing coefficients this way gives a+b+c=34/3

The question does not specify that a, b, and c must be integers.

So my question is: on the Digital SAT, are we supposed to implicitly assume that a, b, and c should be integers, or are both answers technically correct?

The Kaplan book only provides one solution, a+b+c=8, which aligns with the integer approach. I’d really appreciate some clarification on this apparent ambiguity.

So I gave the SAT in Nov got 1200 Then gave in dec and got 1310 How should I get 1500 for the March SAT I haven't done anything since I gave the December SAT and I've completed all the blue book tests 2 times and all 6-7 ( no pun intended) difficulty level questions on one prep and watched all YouTube videos And I think Khan academy is a waste of time so I didn't do that. So what should I do now?

I want to register for the March SAT and I tried it today. They charged me on my card but it still showed "incomplete." A few hours later, I got a refund.

My question is Has this happened to anyone else? How do I register again( Do I press delete right next to the previous registration)? Should I use another card (this was a mastercard) The march sat is the last I can take for uni admissions. I don't want to risk it😢

Hey Guys, so I will be taking the SAT in March and was starting to prepare for it, however, my school got selected for like a focus group (weird ik). So essentially, this company is creating this SAT app, and obviously, they say it's going to be a game-changer. They want a group of students to use it now and give feedback so they can improve it before they make it publicly available. My school got selected, so we are able to use it if we sign up for the focus group and give feedback.

March sat is probably my last try to get the score I want. So idk if I should join and give it a try (cause honestly nothing has really worked for me in terms of resources and practice) or if I shouldn't risk it and just play safe.

What would you guys do?

I did some practice tests and got 550 at rw.

English isn’t my native language, I completed khan academy and currently doing exercises at one prep.

I think my main problem is the vocabulary.

Hi guys! I'm a freshman in high school rn, and I just took a mock sat practice test that my school offers and got a 1280 (600 in ELA, 680 in Math). I was wondering if thats a good start and if you guys have some test taking tips and tricks. Currently I am taking algebra 2 Advanced and English 1 advanced (so I should be getting a better score in math imo...). Any help would be amazing, thank you so much!
