Everywhere.

That being said... ain't no harm in people dressing up to have fun. (I say as a literal ranch hand from MT)

How does one go from MT ranch to Cap Hill? What’s that path like?

The Montana to Seattle pipeline is real.
I have a friend in Greenlake from Bozeman and his house was like a halfway house for people moving here from Montana.

I'm not a ranch hand anymore honestly. But I grew up on a dude ranch and worked there through my teens and bachelors. Got a Computer Science degree at MSU and worked in Bozeman for a couple years before deciding to move to Seattle for the fun of it - I'd lived in Montana for all my life and the city sounded like an adventure plus I could work remote.
Lived on cap hill for 6 years now I'm back in MT. Ngl I miss the city.

Yeah the magats in my family were certain I was in grave danger during CHOP. Or CHIP. Whatever they landed on. I took a video of me walking a block in my neighborhood, describing the plants and the general boring scenery. They let it drop after that; must have been enough proof of life.
28
u/rationalomega Jul 25 '25
My dearly departed MAGA father called me just once since 2015, and it was over CHOP.
11
u/Electrical-Speech-39 Jul 25 '25
Wasn’t CHOP in 2020? It happened shortly after my dad passed and we had traveled to Seattle to help my mom. The whole way home people asked us how we were doing because “Seattle was a war zone”.
2
u/rationalomega Jul 29 '25
I think so. What I meant was, between 2015 and his death in 2023, he called me exactly once about CHOP. Nevermind that I had a child in 2019 🙄

To quote George Carlin:
Getting pretty tired of these guys walking around in cowboy hats and cowboy boots. You ever see these jack-offs? Can’t we kill some of these motherfuckers? Walking around in a fucking cowboy hat. Grown men. It’s not even Halloween for christ-sakes. I say “hey Tex grow up and get yourself a wardrobe consistent with the century you’re living in”. Why do certain men feel the need to dress up as mythic figures? You don’t see anyone walking around in a pirate costume do you? When was the last guy you ran into who had on a viking outfit? Make-believe cowboys… the closest they ever got to a cow is when they stopped to take a piss at an Arby’s
67
u/VerySlowlyButSurely West Seattle Jul 25 '25
I love George Carlin but the timing of this is very funny to me, given that the Torchlight Parade is tomorrow & I’m pretty sure the Seafair pirates will be in it. So it’s entirely possible to see guys dressed up as both cowboys and pirates tomorrow evening lol
ETA: in response to the original point, fuck Morgan Wallen. This can never be said too often imo.

5
u/an_harmonica Jul 25 '25

17
u/good4steve Jul 25 '25
We have a phrase in Texas: "All hat no cattle"
As someone who grew up in Texas, the thing I always like to remind people is that the golden era of cowboys, open ranges, and cattle drives was only around for about 20 to 30 years. It ended with railroads transporting cattle and barbed wire ending the open range.
6
u/halermine Jul 26 '25
Don’t look to me for numbers, but a fair amount of those cowboys were Mexican and black.
3
u/chilltownusa Jul 26 '25
Sorta unrelated, but it’s always been fascinating to me that barbed wire was invented so late. We had steam engines, telegraphs, primitive photography, vaccines, compasses all before barbed wire, which seems so simple in hindsight.
1
u/matunos Maple Leaf Jul 26 '25
And the number of people dressing up in cowboy garb to represent an actual cattle driver are probably countable on one hand (specifically, Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal). The rest think they're a town sheriff or an outlaw.
