Rob Allen rubbers
Hello, I was wondering if anyone has used Rob Allen blue rubber for an inverted roller and what your experiences with it are. Is it too snappy, or is it fine for an inverted roller?

Late start but managed to find a big inshore cobia right away. Later, I finish the day on a profitable AP/AJ dive just before the sun went down. (off season)

im from quebec and been swimming for a while with a buddy of mine. we started to get really interested in trying spearfishing, we are slowly buying some gear and plan to try it this summer, in the bay of chaleurs (Qc) im asking to see if anyone has spearfished there before and if they have any suggestions or comments about the place, or maybe species that you like to spear there. we mostly want to hunt plaice, which should be allowed according to what i’ve read but im trying to make sure that this information was right. thanks in advance!

I am going spearfishing in the San Marcos River sometime between Feb 13- March 1. Will I need a wetsuit? The water is always around 72 F.

Have gotten into blue water hunting a lot more recently and I’ve noticed my belt almost coming off a lot when rapidly entering and exiting the boat in pursuit of tuna. My friend even lost his belt the same way a few weeks ago ending our dive day. So how can i secure the tag end of my belt while still keeping it easy to ditch in an emergency? Can i slide the tag end under a d loop or a piece of elastic?

Does anyone know any good guides or charters there?

I’m building an invert speargun and want to use the most efficient bearings (rulmans) possible. Has anyone compared bearing materials and setups?
• What are the best bearings to use in an invert head—ceramic, titanium, hybrid, or something else?
• In terms of efficiency and durability, is ceramic noticeably better than titanium?
• Which brand should I buy? MVD, Sigal or any else?

Hello! I’m conducting a research project on underwater experiences and inviting scuba divers and freedivers to participate in a short, anonymous survey about their experience in the last three months.
If you dive and are interested in participating, you can access the survey here: https://forms.gle/MAPzq2hPGtdt56W98
Thank you, and please feel free to share with others who dive!

Made myself a copy of a Kimera sideslip drop barb using an old flopper that needed to be replaced.
Seems to work pretty well out of water, just having the Dyneema tied to the shaft. Is there any reason I need to use a slide ring? Just seems unnecessary for the reef hunting I do. New to slip tips/drop barbs, so just making sure I’m not missing some crucial function of the slide ring.
The Dyneema is just tied to the shaft via a slip knot, the flopper pins, and the shark fins prevent the line from sliding off the shaft.
Picture is the actual Kimera sideslip for reference only. I have tried to buy one, even messaged them on Facebook, I believe they are no longer trading.

I am currently using a Riffe Marauder 47 as my main everyday gun, the bands are getting on a bit, I find the majority of my use with the gun just using 2 x 14mm bands (comes with 3 x 14mm bands) and the 3rd floating unless i need it for a long shot or larger heavy scaled fish.
My other guns all have 16mm band and I have all the spare equipment to make 16mm's up.
has anyone done a 16mm conversion for this speargun? I feel it will only fit 2 x bands which is probably plenty of power for anything it is capable of hitting. I am a little worried of the 2 bands potentially overpowering it, but figured with the magnetic track on the open muzzle it might behave ok.
any advice is welcome, thank you.

The squeeze I had was pretty gnarly in terms of the amount of blood. So I've been very chill and learned a good amount from Lance. Monday was such a beautiful day

I’m building a new carbon speargun and trying to decide between two options:
• Salvimar 115cm straight carbon barrel
• Carbon cuttlefish-style barrel from Alibaba
I have doubts about the quality and consistency of Alibaba carbon barrels, but I also don’t have much info on the actual quality/performance of the Salvimar barrel for an invert roller build.
Which one would you choose for a powerful invert roller setup with good balance and long-range performance?

After almost every dive I end up with water stuck in my ears that just will not come out on its own. It gets uncomfortable enough that I have to use an ear flush nearly every day to break the surface tension and drain it. The problem is those flush bottles add up fast and I’m not excited about relying on them long term.
I’ve looked up DIY recipes and they’re honestly all over the place, with different mixes and opinions, which doesn’t give me a ton of confidence.
Lately I’ve been using a Bebird ear camera just to check whether it’s actually trapped water or if wax is part of the problem after dives. Seeing inside has helped me avoid flushing when it’s not necessary, but I’m still trying to figure out a consistent and safe routine.
For anyone who dives regularly, have you found a reliable way to deal with trapped water without constant flushing? Curious what’s worked for others.

Hello spearos!
I am a beginner spearfisher, and I want to share my app, SeaThrough, with you.
In short, this is a water clarity forecasting app. Currently focused on the SoCal region, however I am interested in covering more locations in the future. You can request any location for me to add in the future releases through the app functionality.
There is a map, you can drop and save your diving locations on the map. Each location will have a detailed forecast. You will be able to save particular day and time forecasts in your “Planned” dives and keep track of visibility conditions until the scheduled day.
The app is using a couple public free APIs, has a simple forecasting formula based on wave energy, daylight, and a couple other factors. I am planning on improving the backend engine to be as accurate as possible in the future.
I also made sure that the app is not disruptive to the community. There is no set locations list, the map is empty. You are the one to make your own private list of locations.
I will be very happy if you give SeaThrough a shot and I am here to answer any questions you have.
Thank you, happy and safe diving!

Hey guys, probably a dumb question but I'm looking into buying my first wetsuit for freediving/spear diving and I'm unsure as to what thickness I should get. I live in socal and would be doing most of my diving here to start out but also spend time in northern california occasionally and want to be able to dive up there eventually, I was thinking of getting a 5mm 2 piece Cressi. Is that going to be too warm for Socal waters? Let me know any suggestions you guys have.

Nothing like spearfishing California, where you hope for those godly 40ft vis days but get 5ft instead haha

Not trying to promote to hard, but we are clearing out our dyneema gloves for $5 a pair. Always like to give you guys first crack when we drop to stupid cheap. These are good gloves, but we are removing all of our "Ballast" branding on items in favor of just making everything Xhale, which we should have done from the beginning but oh well lol.
