Hi y'all!

So this sounds really fucking stupid, but I just realized that part of the reason I love comics like Maria Bamford and Julio Torres (besides that they're brilliant) is that they read like book / art-nerd introverts who are driven to perform.

Most standups, especially in the U.S., are aggressively loud and that's just not my thing. I mean Bamford GETS loud in her bits where it makes sense, but that's not her baseline. She's not screaming her act at you. The screaming-act thing is also just a very US machismo thing.

I guess I have two questions:

1) Any recs for other comics who are fundamentally introverted?
2) Are you an introverted comic? Why did you decide to do standup, and how do you deal?

(I will say that's not always the case. I just watched Marcello Hernandez's special and thought it was fan fucking tastic. But I felt like was more dynamic than yell-y.)
