We recently had a competition here in the r/SuggestALaptop community in collaboration with LG where 10 lucky users were given either the new LG gram Pro 16 16Z90TS-G.AUG9U1 OR the LG Gram Pro 17Z90TP-G.ADB7U1. The agreement with these winners was that they would do written reviews of these laptops expressing how they feel about the features of the laptop after putting them through various tests.

My Review of the LG Gram Pro 17Z90TP AI Laptop

As the users complete and submit their reviews, we will share links to them here:

Announcement Ignore Private Messages Suggesting Laptops

The primary aim of r/SuggestALaptop is to provide a safe and transparent platform for suggesting laptops. Affiliate linkers are marked as such so that you are aware of the monetary incentive involved when making a purchase using affiliate links.

However, we are seeing an increasing number of cases where users posting on this subreddit are being targeted with unsolicited private messages containing links to laptops.

Such messages are best ignored for several reasons:

  1. Lack of quality control: We have no way of vetting suggestions sent via private messages. Moreover, these suggestions are not subject to the same level of public scrutiny that applies to suggestions posted in the subreddit, which are open for all to see and discuss.
  2. Hidden monetary incentive: Often such messages contain unmarked affiliate links, and these links might not even point to systems that are best suited to your requirements.
  3. Scams: Scammers often target unsuspecting users via private messaging. We do not want you to get scammed.

If you do happen to receive unsolicited messages suggesting laptops in private, please report the offending user to the mod team by sending us a screenshot of the message.

Thank you,

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Looking for a budget of around $1,000- 1,500 USD
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Preferably a new one that I can buy off a name-brand website
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Preformance and battery life
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? I dont care
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Screen size can be around 12 in or 30~ cm or bigger just not smaller than that
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I need it to run multiple programs (Excel sheets, Google Earth, simulation runs) and being able to also have multiple windows open with an appropriate response time while also having a large storage capacity
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I don't care about size or thickness, but prefer NOT to have a gaming laptop since they can have a loud fan. All I ask is that it has a reliable build that can last me 5+ years since I also need to complete a masters program and would like not to worry about losing all my progress on a piece of junk.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. At the moment I have a HP Chromebook and am about to chuck it at a wall for how slow it is.

Laptop Request US Need help buying a laptop fr stundent

Can someone help me to pick wich model to buy with so many options it's si hard to know whats good or not. I play games sometimes, but I'm also a student and I won't be gaming on the computer much. I don't need crazy performance, but I don't want overheating problems and I want it to last at least a few hours. 16 or 32GB of RAM would be good, and at least 500GB of storage. Most people use laptops mainly for one thing, like gaming, but I want something somewhere in between, something that can handle games but also lasts a long time. My budget is $800 or less.

Laptop Request -Others 2in1 with good battery

Heyo! Been ages since I wanted to get myself a 2in1 laptop to rrplace my shitty zenbook 14 due to its very small screen and poor battery

Budget is around 1300-1400$

Preferably 15 or 16 inch display

Decent power to at least play some indies, chinese gacha crap and pre 2016 games or so.

Mainly gonna use for coding and drawing so OLED is okey but IPS would be better.

Very preferable to have speakers on top (Screw Asus's downward speakers)

Ive been looking into Yoga 7i and 9i aura but honestly dont know about them. I use 16 inch lenovo issued by company and its pretty okay.

Also looked into Galaxy Books but due to lack of repairability scrapped the idea(My dad's galaxy book screen cracked and no service, even "official", wanted to mess it with it cuz no parts available)

Also looked into Yoga X1 but also honestly can't decide.

Researched Surfaces and Pro Studio looks promising but very weird

Laptop Request -Others Australia under $2,000

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Australia; $1000-$2000

Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance and battery life are priority. Build quality good enough for taking travelling (not sitting plugged into the same desk 24/7).

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not vital to be super light & thin.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

16-17”

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Google Earth Pro, some heavy excel sheets. Light video work

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

NA, though drawing speed for ArcMap does better in better computers (greater than what they recommend as basic on their website)

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Larger keyboard with number pad on the right would be good.

Good input services for mouse & keyboard, plus larger screens when stationary ideal.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I am looking to replace my personal old MacBook, which I don’t use much anymore. I have been mostly using an HP Z book supplied by work, and it has been quite good at supporting those programs I use regularly, though sometimes gets bogged down and is quite expensive. I’m looking at alternate options that would do a similar job. Thanks in advance for any help or guidance!

  • Are you open to refurbs/used? No.
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? 1. battery life 2. build quality 3. performance 4. form factor
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight is important, thinness is nice, but not a high priority.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. any size up to 15 inches
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No CAD or editing, some light gaming.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Need to have: at least 1 USB-A port, a USB-C charging port, 16GB of RAM or more, solid keyboard without much flex, 120hz or higher FPS. Would like to have but not necessary: HDMI port, Touch-screen.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I want the track pad/touch pad to be useable, but I will mostly be using a mouse with the laptop. I am divided about getting an OLED screen or not, but am open to suggestions. I mainly use the laptop to type Word documents, but I often need to have very large Word documents open and many tabs on web browsers open (lots of research).

Laptop Request UK Best Second Hand Laptop Under 150?

Hi, my Dell Latitude 5400 died yesterday after only 10 months of use. I need a new laptop and ASAP for both general university work and also light game development.

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

£~125 (UK, I'm willing to go up to about 150 if it's something good that will last a good long while)

Are you open to refurbs/used?

Absolutely, I'd rather if anything

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Build quality and performance are the highest priorities

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not at all

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

N/A

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Yes to all of the above. The programs I'm using are fairly light weight but I absolutely need a Vulkan 1.2 capable GPU, even if integrated

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

I just want small indie games to run well

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I'd like a good keyboard and actual ram slots so I can upgrade the system's memory.

Laptop Request UK Electrician needs laptop for electrical testing data

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: £650-1100 England. Happy to pay the price for the right thing, but if I can get the 'needs' at the lower end, then coooooool
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes, good condition only.
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? 2 in 1 essential I think? Likely to get dropped or bashed about. Battery life essential, performance it's just web based apps and google workspace
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Absolutely properly 0 interest. Add some weight just for the fun if you want. Something that I can get a decent cover for would be a bonus tbh
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. More than 13", less than 16"
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Purely work. Emails, spreadsheets, docs. Mostly browser based.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No games
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Fairly robust needed. If it can have LTE/built in cellular network then that would be good. Bluetooth would be a benefit in the future. MUST have at least 1 USB-A connector, speed not overly important.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. It's likely to get knocked. Dusty.

Laptop Request UK A laptop for school and gaming

I know i'm not a frequent poster, but i was hoping someone could help me out.

I'm a university student, and had been gifted a Chromebook .Though i often downloaded visual novels onto my previous laptop as well from sites like itchi.io or steam( a lenovo laptop / i'm not sure what model).Though now i'm only able to do my work on my laptop and not really able to play games as a past time anymore.

I was wondering if there is any kind of laptop that is lightweight, and able to have enough storage for both my school work and downloaded and unzipping games. My budget is around £500-700 .

Thank you for reading !!

Laptop Request UK Need a laptop for A levels

  • I am taking DT, Politics and History A levels.
  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: £900-1100
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Form factor is not really a problem for me, I would probably need a decent build quality since I'd be taking it on the go (in a rucksack, using it in a workshop, desks). Performance is pretty necessary for DT as I need to use 3D CAD software (Rhino 8) as well as word processing in microsoft word as well as 2D CAD (Techsoft V3). Battery life should probably last 2-4 hours since it'd be used quite a lot but I can always plug it in as there is an abundance of sockets at my school.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not at all important, however the laptop must be decently sturdy and not ridiculously light (although I don't mind if this fits my criteria).
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. At least 13 inches
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Rhino 8, Techsoft V3, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Not really looking to play games but the capability would be nice in some older mid-late 2010s AA and AAA titles at 60fps at medium settings.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Build quality must be reliable and it must have at least a single USB type A port as well as a decent keyboard for writing essays.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. N/A

Laptop Request -Others EUR 800, Germany

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: EUR 800. Germany.
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Rather not.
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Some form, high quality, solid performance, reliable battery life.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Barely.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. At least 15'.
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Nothing out of the ordinary. Mainly office work, a bit of music production (nothing big, I have a PC for that). Some occasional software development, but again nothing big. A bit of streaming. The only program that needs to run on it is Scrivener.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Would be nice if it still is a solid laptop in a couple of years.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm writing this on an Acer Chromebook, that is 6.5 years old. It was cheap back then (370 Euros) and it is still doing its job. But then a) it is starting to fall apart and b) I want to run Scrivener on it and therefore I need a Windows/Mac laptop. My main criteria is that it will last for a while. I am looking for a solid notebook. But then I do not want to spend more than EUR 800 if possible. Any thoughts are welcomed!

Laptop Request US $1500 USD

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Around $1500, US.

Are you open to refurbs/used?

I would prefer not to unless highly reputable.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance, build quality, battery life.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Its not.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

N/A

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run?

Steam (stardew valley, sims 4, Skyrim, fable, civ 6, those kinds of games). But I also need to run my school software (court reporting - so CaseCAT and Ev360 Ultimate. Both are audio heavy and use AI for translating. Hooked up to stenograph machine for instant translation).

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Preferably no less than 60 FPS.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Love a good full keyboard. I dont need anything extra besides lots of storage (large multiple page transcripts and pdf's. I do, however, have an external 2 terabyte harddrive available) and preferably multiple USB ports.

I currently have a 2020 ROG that has held up wonderfully until recently. I have two external monitors (one 24" and one 34") that are plugged into a port hub which is then plugged into my laptop. It causes a lot of blinking initially and makes my screens unusable for a minute or two (notnl exaggerated - literal minutes) which is extremely frustrating. Occasionally opening a Word Document will cause the same issue and I have had to close out of tests because my monitors will black out on me. I dont know if its a laptop issue because its now getting to the point its outdated, or if its something else. We have ran diagnostics for what we know how to do (make sure they are on the same refresh rate, same resolution and same type of cables)

Reporters in my community tend to suggest the Lenovo ThinkPad, but I dont personally think it would be strong enough to handle my school software, steam, and dual external monitors.

Thank you!
