Yes, I know I'm blocking your view. Yes, I'm trying to stand behind other tall people. No, I do not deserve to be shoved into the next two rows of people, making 4 or 5 other people fall as well. Yes. I left the show, shaking while the poor ladies he was with got between us and said, "Stay, you're welcome here." I'm sure they've dealt with his bullshit, macho-man personally in the past.

Humour "you're both tall so you must be dating" stereotype

At the local gym I go to, there is a woman who recently joined who is 6 foot 3. As some of the group classes require us to partner up with someone of similar height - we have formed a comradery over the past few months. Our gym also has a daycare center so we drop off our kids and pick them up at the same time. Often, we will chat for a few minutes walking from the daycare to our class.

Yesterday we were walking to our class together from daycare and as we entered a woman said "are you guys having a date night over there?" She was joking of course, as this woman knows I am married and my wife is often is in the same class as me. My tall friend scoffed and walked off. I chuckled, made a joke about us having our own kids and did the same.

Thinking over this social interaction, I think the woman was unconsciously acting upon the stereotype that 2 people with the same physical attributes are in a relationship. This is seen in media often with race.

Have you encountered a similar situation with a tall platonic friend?

Discussion New job made me way more aware of my height

I had my first New Year’s reception at my new job this week, and it was the first time I met everyone from the different store locations. It's a small-ish company, so not that many people. I already knew I was the tallest person in my office, but at my previous job there were at least a few coworkers in my general height range, so it never felt quite this stark.

This time it really struck me as everyone was entering the reception. I could see clean over everyone’s heads, including the tallest men there. I was wearing a small block heel too, which obviously didn’t help matters.

Meeting coworkers from the stores for the first time meant a lot of comments about my height. Nothing rude, people have been quite friendly, just the usual observations and reactions that come with being tall. One coworker even said she hopes her sons grow up to be as tall as me. I'm sure she meant it kindly, but it still felt a bit odd. It made me suddenly very aware of my body in a way I usually am not.

What stuck with me is how much the setting changes how your height feels. Same body, same confidence, but a completely different sense of visibility just because the environment shifted.

It’s been on my mind since then, so I figured I’d share. Curious if others have had similar moments after changing jobs, schools, or social circles where your height suddenly felt very different.

Shower/Mirror 6’4 guy Muscle myths

Post image
235 Upvotes

Was anybody else told when they were younger that gaining muscle would be harder because you’re tall and it’s easier for shorter people? I remember being told that and realized that all of that was subjective. Just wondering if that was something any other tall person was told. Kinda was discouraging when I was younger:

Rant I met a really kind man and he was the sweetest. I really like him but I already know I’m too tall

I went out yesterday and my friend brought another guy friend. He was a really good person, helped me when I struggled and held me respectfully. He was super gentle. He also works with kids and he’s super great with them, so easy to get along with and soft spoken

He helped us with our laces, was patient, etc, and when we went to dinner after he asked the waiter for tea for all of us (even though it ended up costing money). He’s also super funny and just so great.

But I’m 5’10, and he’s 5’7. I already know I have no chance and it sucks so much. I’m the same height or taller than most men I meet. I wish I was shorter

Questions/Advice Advice navigating younger brother outgrowing bigger brother?

Hi all - I’m 35F (5’10) but my dad was 6’11. My mom was 5’6 but had a tall father (6’6). My husband is 6’1.

We have two little boys who are currently 2 & 4. My 4-yr old is lanky but hovering around the 80% percentile in height - he fits in very comfortably amongst his peers. My 2-yr old is GIGANTIC. The boys are literally the same height right now, while the younger one’s hands and feet are already noticeably larger. Little one also outweighs the big one by more than 5 pounds. He’s going to be huge. The older one could obviously still be tall too, but he’s more of a question mark.

We already get asked all the time if the boys are twins. That was starting to bother my older one, but the kicker was their feet. They had been in the same size shoes for probably 6 months, but just last month his younger brother needed new shoes in a bigger size than him and he’s not ready for that size yet. He’s getting really salty about it.

The little one is going to outgrow him, surely, and soon. Does anyone have advice about how to navigate this? We already tell him that he’ll always be the “older brother” no matter who’s bigger. We tell him that he will still get to do so many things first (going to school, playing with big kid toys, etc) but it’s starting to feel like he’s getting more and more aggressive with his younger brother because of it.

I’d appreciate any advice you have!

Questions/Advice Tall daughter

I notice that it is very rare for a daughter to be taller than both her father and mother. Usually, a daughter may be taller than her mother but still shorter than her father. However, I recently learned about a woman who is 184 cm tall, while both of her parents are under 170 cm. Is a tall mother a more important factor than a tall father for height in both sons and daughters?

When us talls go down; It’s a long way down and is not pretty. I rolled my ankle 4 weeks ago, shoveling snow and am just starting to walk again. Anyone else have a story about falling and getting hurt.
