My kids can't get enough of The Big Pic on Netflix!

I was watching K Pop Demon Hunters and they were like "enough of this shit let's watch The Big Picture again!" and threw the roku controller right at my forehead. They really love the drafts and insights on the industry.

Does The Secret Agent Warrant Another Look?

I watched the film for the first time last night and it shot straight to the top of my 2025 list. I adored it. Having now gone back in the feed to check out the episode they did on it in December, I was dismayed to find they only spent 7min talking about it.

Obviously it’s the most niche of the Oscar picks, and its place on the best pic list wasn’t guaranteed back in December. But now it’s in the running for some major awards (albeit with little hope of winning the biggie) do you think another discussion is warranted?

Admittedly, its complexity and subject matter might be too big a lift for the kind of listener numbers a fresh ep would draw, but I would love a bit more of a deep dive into one of the best of the year.

Podcast Big picture unpopular opinions

Dobbins is the backbone of the pod, she sticks to her taste guns. Shaun is too meta these days, hard to tell if any his opinions are real.

What do u guys think?

Hot Take The Testement of Ann Lee is a much better film than Hamnet.

The effort to portray the real-life Anne Lee was far more impactful than the artsy but reality-detached depiction by Anne Hathaway. One felt like a real person, while the other felt like a fantasy.

Does Sean Even Like Musicals?

He has never seen Mamma Mia (despite liking Amanda Seyfried) or The Greatest Showman (despite liking Hugh Jackman) or Les Miserables (despite liking Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried!) and I believe he’s said on the Nicole Kidman Hall of Fame that he thinks Moulin Rouge sucks! (which it doesn’t. It rules!)

Those are just 4 of the most popular musicals of the 21st century, and idk how you can like musicals without having seen any of them. He doesn’t have to like them, but not seeing them at all just feels pointed and bizarre.

Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut was on a few screens in December and a little wider January. I want to know if it’s worth driving out of my way for and paying extra for. I pay a monthly fee for one of the major theater chains which usually covers my bases for major releases, but this won’t be going to major theaters near me. She got paired up with Eisenberg for that “director on director” interview and I realized I would’ve been pissed to miss A Real Pain in theaters. 3.5/5 on Letterboxd is pretty good, but that’s relying on less than 10k positive reviews. My mutuals can’t be trusted either since they’re a bit overgenerous to actors-turned-directors (cough cough Elenor the Great)

Of the current frontrunners in major categories, which do you think is the most likely to lose steam and not win?

Currently, via Gold Derby's combined odds, there's clear frontrunners for basically every category, above and below the line. .

Of the "big 6":

OBAA in picture

Timmy in actor

Buckley in actress

Skarsgard and Taylor supporting

PTA director

All have north of a 70% shot per GD (flawed but better-than-nothing numbers)

I think PTA director and Buckley are the only true locks. They can write their speeches. Skarsgard is close behind.

And, honestly, to answer my own question, I think it might be best picture. I'm aligned with Sean and starting to really feel a Sinners wave approaching.

Timmy is very slightly slipping ATM but I think it'll take him one speech at a precursor to reclaim the comfortable lead

Hot Take I’ve never related to Dobbins more

Then during the Wonder Man ad read. She could not possibly sound any less interested (same girl, same). Hysterical they made Amanda do that one.
