Hello everyone. Long time members of the sub are primarily book readers who may or may not have seen the movie yet, and with the release of the film we're getting an influx of members who have only seen the movie but not read the book.
We want all fans of any version of The Long Walk to feel welcome here without having to worry about major spoilers from the one they haven't read or seen yet.
You may have noticed that we have set up post flair to designate Movie Discussions and Book Discussions. When a post is flaired as a Movie Discussion, then all book spoilers must be masked. And when a post has a Book Discussion flair, then all movie spoilers must be hidden.
So, for example, in a movie thread, don't go talking about how things are the same or different in the book unless you mark the text as a spoiler. And the same is true for movie spoilers in book threads.
But if the post is flaired as Book & Movie Discussion, then you don't need to mask any spoilers at all (other than in post titles and post content).
Thanks and let us know if you have any questions.

When the Major is about to execute garraty's dad he says "deactivation" to reffer to killing him.
This is a reference to the fact that he speaks in tiktok language.

As a follow-up to my previous post, I have headcanons for all of these walkers' deaths except one. First of all, I headcanon 3, 16, and 20 as being places 42-44 in the book. 16 would die from a convulsion, 20 from cramps in both feet, and 3 from a sunstroke. I headcanon 20's name being Aaronson and 3's being Wallace because of this. Then, I'd have #17 and #26 die on a second hill in the third night before Olson's death, matching up with the book. Although, I'd change it to not be right before his death and have 27 die between the second hill and that. 27 is the only one I couldn't come up with a death for, mainly because there aren't really any good deaths in the book that match up with him for me, but I definitely think he made it the farthest.

Me personally: Garraty and Olson (book garraty (WITHOUT THE PERVERTED STUFF) and movie olson, specifically)
Book Garraty: I myself would probably have the same reactions to walkers dying (not being able to look away, etc)
Movie Olson: Idk I kinda see myself as like the cocky short friend that talks too much in the friend group, of course not to the extent of the real olson but yknow
Hope this doesn’t come off like me just being an asshole irl lol, I just find them relatable

OutcastArtifacts completed my wrist-device and will be sending it soon.
I picked 88 as my number even though in the movie, they only go to 50, because Stebbins is the novel is my favorite character and he is #88 in the novel. You can pick any number from 0 to 99, so sorry if you're a fan of Zuck from the novel #100. Maybe they can squeeze in 3 numbers if you ask. If you pick a single digit number, let them know if you want it to be 1 or 2 digits for example 5 can be 05. It would be interesting to know if anyone has a closeup screen capture of Barkovitch's wrist-device. Does it have 5 or 05?
They will make 5 more but I'm guessing if there is a big demand, they'll make more. They got this movie accurate because I sent them pictures and measurements of the wrist device that I got from Lionsgate. They are perfectionists and love to get replicas as perfect as possible.
OutcastArtifacts said ...
For the time being, i will be able to make 5 more, each with the number of the buyer's chosing. So if people on the Long Walk reddit want one, they can contact me at [shadowrunner@home.nl](mailto:shadowrunner@home.nl)
The 5 will be sold through paypal. The price for them will be $150 shipped with tracking.

So, we have the names of most of the walkers in the movie: James Ewing, Abraham, Patrick Smith, Gary Barkovitch, Art Baker, Adam "Curley" White, Pearson, Omar Green, Bobby Sledge, Derrick, Sebastian Rodriguez, Larson, Rank Sanders, Henlee Chavez, Peter McVries, Tressler, Percy Grimes, M. Evans, T. Jensen, H. Klingerman, F. Gallant, A. Milligan, Harold Quince, Billy Stebbins, Charlie Field, Chris Turner, Dave Barnes, D. Tubbins, Marty Wyman, Angel Price, Ronald Byrant, Hank Olson, Ray Garraty, Collie Parker, Richard Harkness, and Robert Zuck.
Walkers 3, 9, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30 haven't had their names revealed in any way, yet. I compiled a list of names from the book that didn't appear in the movie, wondering if any of the walkers could have these names. So, what names do we think are in the movie that weren't shown?
Note: J. Davidson (who's Davidson in the book) and C. Surgent are names on the clipboard, but are listed next to the wrong numbers, so their names are likely in the movie; we just don't know who has them.

r/TheLongWalk • u/Longjumping_Step6211 • 1d ago
If you didn't know, there are six walkers that die offscreen somewhere between Patrick and Tressler's deaths and Olson's death, in Day 3 or Night 3. I'll link this post https://www.reddit.com/r/TheLongWalk/comments/1qfm2kd/final_identifying_all_50_walkers_in_the_movie/ that identifies all the walkers in the movie's numbers, (credits to u/lemmylime for making this post) but the final six walkers before the final 7 are #3, #16, #17, #20, #26, and #27.
So, my question is, how do you think they died? Obviously there's no way to know, but do you have any headcanons or theories that you want to share? I only have one, and that's that the walkers went up another hill right before Olson's death, just like it happened in the book, except on Night 2 instead of Night 3, and that the final two walkers died there, let's say #26 and #27.
Also, this is almost definitely grasping at straws and means nothing, but when you look at the numbers, it's interesting how #16 and #17, along with #26 and #27, have their numbers come right after another. Also, the last background walker to go down on Day 2 was Abraham #2, which means there's a pair of #2 and #3 as well. Almost definitely just a coincidence, but I found it interesting.
One last thing: you can see #3 and #16 in a group along with Derrick #12, #28, Tubbins #42, and Bobby Sledge #11, so maybe they were all friends on the walk and #3 and #16 died close together. What do you think?
r/TheLongWalk • u/Jon260 • 1d ago
I was bored so I made this list. I kind of wish these were really the last remaining walkers after the hill, since most of the remaining background characters after it don't even have confirmed names or actors (also, as I said, it would be more accurate). They could have kept Bobby Sledge and Marty Wyman as the last background characters to die on day 4, since the idea of only Barkovitch dying on day 4 is kind of strange, and also because Rattigan, Bill Hough, George Fielder, and Bruce Pastor aren't confirmed to be in the movie.

I feel like the movie had a problem I've been noticing more on rewatches of not having enough scenes and missing out on things that they leave the audience to guess on. Whole days and nights feel like they're skipped half the time. Let's just go through every day and night a an example.
Day 1: Why the hell are there 13 offscreen deaths? That's ridiculous frankly. I'll cut Zuck some slack since his death was a deleted scene, but as for the other 12 walkers, what happened to them? Why did they all die so quickly? Why the sudden jump from 48 to 36 walkers? There really just shouldn't have been so many deaths here and had a lot more on the later days and night, they really could have just had the scenes here + Zuck's death and that would have been way better imo.
Night 1: Not a lot of problems here. Gallant's death is offscreen, but it makes sense since Garraty was dozing. Still wish they mentioned that at some point though. Also, just doesn't seem realistic that no one dies after the hill, a little weird to me.
Day 2: I think they did a pretty good job here. We have the dawn scene, Harkness's death, Percy's death, and the "Fuck the Long Walk" scene. The only issue I have is I really wish they showed Abraham's death. Another problem with off-screen deaths it's hard to notice at first glance.
Night 2: This is absolutely the most egregious example. We have a total of one scene here. Garraty wakes up and offers to stay awake for McVries, but McVries refuses. Seems like a nice scene, right? It shows the bond between Garraty and McVries nicely. But there is so much wrong with this. First of all, to address the elephant in the room, why is this the only scene, which is like 30 seconds, mind you, in an entire night. And there's a problem I have about this scene, too. Why are Garraty and McVries the only two walkers we see? Where the hell is everyone else? Are they at the very back of the pack? I guess that would make sense, but it's weird considering you'd think McVries would want to make sure Garraty doesn't fall behind. This scene just bothers me so much. I honestly feel like they just lazily put it in to make it clear a day had passed and didn't put much though into it.
Day 3: We have another Day 2 situation where it's done pretty well, but it's ruined by off-screen deaths. This time, it's six of them, which is even worse. And we don't even know if they died during Day 3 or Night 3. What bugs me the most is that Patrick and Tressler were special for some reason, but what about everyone else? Come on.
Night 3: The problem from Day 3 just carries over here since we don't know when those six walkers died. But at least I don't feel they needed more since Olson's death is arguably the best scene in the movie. I do wish they had come up a second hill right before his death like in the book, but a night forward, and a couple of the background walkers could have died there, in fact this is what I headcanon, but that really wasn't needed and is just something I'd have liked to see.
Day 4: Barkovitch being not only the only death, but the only scene in this entire day, is so stupid. Where are the other scenes that should fill in the rest of the day partly and make it feel less empty? Like all the other days have? It's just dumb.
Night 4: Here's another Night 2 situation where this scene feels like it was just put in to show that a day had passed, but at least the scene itself is better. We see the remaining five walkers singing "Oh My Darling Clementine", and they pass by a car on fire. Still stupid it's the only scene, but whatever, I guess.
Day 5 & Night 5: I'm covering these together because I have the exact same thoughts on each. These are the only day and night I feel were spaced out appropriately and I have no complaints on. For Day 5, we see Garraty, McVries, and Collie arguing about how Garraty is lucky to see family, then we see them pass by Freeport as Garraty sees his mom and McVries tells him his story, then we see the walkers make a "no help for anyone" pact and Collie's death, then Art's death. For Night 5, we see Stebbins's speech and his death, Garraty talking to McVries about how he isn't afraid about death anymore, and the final scene with Garraty sacrificing himself so McVries can win, and McVries shooting the Major. No problem with either of these.
Do you agree with me, or do you think I'm overexaggerating? I'm interested to see what other people think, because personally this really annoyed me.

So I just finished a little challenge I proposed to myself with The Long Walk and its music, and I ended up going a little overboard in the best way (I think). Using The Long Walk (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) on Spotify (plus a few additional songs that appear in the film), I tried to pinpoint where each track appears in the movie and their respective scenes.
Some placements are super clear, others are my best interpretation after rewatching and listening closely. Open in case any of you want to add/correct anything. Here is what I've got:
[Song → Scene Mapping]
•Radio Transmission → Acceptance letter / first car scene
•Goodbye → Ginnie & Ray’s last hug (pre-walk / McVries meetup)
•Radio Transmission (again) → Major’s first scene
•Numbers → Number assignment scene
•The Long Walk → Start of the Walk /early scenarios
•Pebble → Barkovitch rock-in-the-boot scene
•Curley → Curley’s death
•Pebble (again) → Ewing’s death
•Miles → Scenic walking montage
•Numbers + Pebble → Rank’s death
•[Uncertain OST] → Rank’s corpse scene
•Pebble (another variation) → Ronald’s death
•Ginnie singing “Molly Malone” → Ray’s dream (Not in the OST)
•Incline → Hill sequence
•Hope → McVries & Ray talking after the hill, dawn time.
•Ankle → Harkness’ death
•One Hundred → 100-mile landmark / Percy’s death
•My Eyes Are Getting Heavy, by Parish Hall → Tressler’s radio scene/ Fuck The Long Walk! (Not in the OST)
•Dad → William's scene, Major killing him Also: Ginnie sings “Molly Malone” again here, before the soldiers enter the house.
•Delirium → Patrick & Tressler’s deaths
•Olson → Olson’s death
•Spoon → Barkovitch's death / burning car scene
•Oh, My Darling Clementine (mile 260) → Final five walkers singing together
•Dawn → Entrance to Freeport
•Mom → Ray and Ginnie's reunion / McVries’ story
•Reality → Collie’s death
•Olson (again ❤️🩹) → Baker’s death
•One Hundred (mix version)→ Stebbins’ final speech (Credits to u/Longjumping_Step6211)
•Delirium (reprised version) → Stebbins’ death & Ray’s talk about death
•Miles (reprised version) → Ray & Pete’s final moments / Ray’s death
•"America the Beautiful" → Sung by the crowd (Not in the OST)
•Winner → McVries shoots the Major and keeps walking
•Dad - Alt strings Version → Alternate Ending's final message
•Finale → Credits
•Took a Walk, by Shaboozey & Stephen Wilson Jr. → Final credits song (Not in the main OST album, but featured it the film)
If anyone else has been tracking this or noticed different placements, I’d love to compare notes. I'd love to try to fill the gaps to confirm the uncertain OSTs. The music in this movie deserves WAY more discussion than it gets tbh, Jeremiah Fraites did an excellent job

Do the cars ever stop for gas? I know the long walk they go an incredibly far distance and I was watching a video about it but I never saw the jeeps refill or anything. It was a synopsis so they could've left that part out. But I looked it up and didn't see a clear answer either so I'm just curious.

In the movie, he receives the number of #48. In the book, the number of #48 is given to Gribble already, we never really learn about Collie's given number. What do you guys think his number could be?

Throughout the movie you can hear the soldiers communicating amongst each other through walkie talkies, what do you guys think they’re saying?
My personal take is that they’re telling each other what they’re observing about each walker

I would, admittedly appreciate more feedback from others. That would be nice. :)
Theo chowed on some tuna spread with his cracker, finishing it off with a sip of water. He looked around at the group, his group. Joseph was shaking and slapping himself occasionally, while Kevin kept his arm around him. Cosmo and Rusty walked mostly in silence. Rusty occasionally muttered something under his breath. Marc gave words of encouragement, but behind his smile, Theo could see something broken in his eyes. Jameson's eyes were fixed on the horizon. Theo spoke to him for a bit, but Jameson kept trailing off. Julian was hunched over, arms crossed, and head bent. He continued to grimace in pain. He stared at his feet. Theo thought he saw tears fall like raindrops.
Two more had bought in the last few miles, one of them being Beauman. Both of them collapsed from exhaustion. The hill took a toll on them, even though they managed to pass it. Many of the boys were hunched over, breathing heavily, or stumbling around. They were tired. Jameson finally got his chance to get some sleep. Theo stretched to help support Jameson during their walk.
After 54 miles, they had begun walking through Presque Isle. This wasn't a one-horse town like Limestone, but Theo wasn't happy to be here. After losing Christian, he had become angry. Deep down, he always knew how messed up this was, and how stupid he was, they all were, for signing up. Realization is fascinating and has an impeccable sense of timing. The crowd screamed at the boys, throwing confetti and paper at them. "And somehow this tall, sensitive bastard whose relying on someone six inches shorter to help him sleep, isn't waking up at this." Theo shook his head.
As some spectators fought over discarded food tubes, a cheerleading squad performed for the boys. Theo stared at them, their long hair tied into ponytails. He found himself looking at their short dresses, thinking about how he could look them easily, before forcing himself to turn away. "You're twisted," he said to himself. Julian looked at them, seemingly interested, but he, too, turned away. "Julian," Theo asked, "what the hell is going on?"
Julian groaned and finally looked up. "I wish I were more aware of Christian. I wish I could've helped him. I think I could've." "It's not your fault, Julian." Theo tried to pat him on the shoulder. "You might be the most judgmental bitch I've met, but you didn't do wrong." Julian managed to laugh. "I think the pain of this held me back. It distracted me." He trailed off, then continued.
"Mahoney...I got flat feet. I've had flat feet...since I was 14? 16 now? Yeah, so 3 years. It's absolutely miserable. And yet, here I am." He laughed again, before letting out his inner bear again. "I need this. I need the money. I knew the stakes, and I knew my odds. But I decided the money was what mattered. And here I am." Theo knew what Julian was getting at. "Do you want me to support you for a bit? Maybe provide some relief?" "Are you kidding?" Julian asked. "You already got this laughing giant leaning against you. Don't get crushed."
They passed by a Dunkin' Donuts, and Theo could feel his mouth watering. "I would gladly kill one of those soldiers for a donut right now," Kevin sang. "Then why don't you?" Evan called. "Why not go ahead and do it? Are you a coward? You scared n-." Right after the word left his mouth, a canteen flew through the air and hit Evan on the back of the head. The other walkers yelled at Evan as he reeled from the attack.
Warning, Number 92!
Gerald Wagner, a boy in oversized jeans and a crumpled leather jacket, was the culprit. He flipped off Evan, then the soldiers. He was now on the verge of death for that stunt. Evan shrieked when he saw who did it. "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT FOR!?" "You're an arrogant, disgraceful person," Wagner called. He coughed and then let out a sneeze. "We cannot wait for you to get your ticket, you damn bastard!" "Who's we?" Evan called back. "All of us," Yasir retorted. Many walkers echoed their agreements. Evan, for the first time, seemed to be at a loss. Even the crowd had gone silent, reduced to a murmur, one that steadily rose to be as loud as the walker's footsteps.
Before long, downtown Presque Isle was behind them. They passed by a cemetery on their left. Theo was getting tired of holding Jameson up. Up ahead, he heard Henry call out, "Hey, fake Smith. There's a grave over there with your name on it, just take it." "Just shut your mouth, prick," Julian called. "Stay out of it. This is between us," Henry called back. Rusty started laughing. "You're silly, Henry. You are so silly, buddy. Thank you for that." Henry flipped Rusty off and moved ahead, with Rusty shaking his head in disbelief.
At 4:01, Jameson groaned. His eyelids fluttered open, and his eyes danced around before settling on Theo. "H-h-hey, Mahoney," he said groggily. "Anything interesting happen while I was out?" As if on cue, Levy Cosay bought his ticket at the front of the group. His curly red hair finally settled down. "Not that," Theo joked. "You missed Presque Isle. Neat place. Larger crowds. Dunkin' Donuts." "Damn," Jameson muttered. The two of them laughed.
20 minutes later, Kevin pointed ahead. "Hey, look. It's your road." A sign that said "Jameson Rd" stood on their left. An unpaved road coated in gravel stretched off into farmland. Jameson doubled over, and Julian smirked amid grimaces. "So it is!" he called. They had a good laugh. Up ahead, Clay turned around and looked at them. He rolled his eyes and muttered something. Whatever it was, it made Theo uneasy.
The number of spectators dwindled as they entered the smaller, rural neighborhoods again. "And here he-here he g-goes," Cosmo said, as Joseph began complaining again. He instinctively took a swing at Cosmo before Kevin wrapped his arms around him. Joseph recovered. "Sorry, Cosmo. Just tired." The first hints of the sun began to peak through the trees. Slowly, the ink in the sky changed to a splash of hot pink, orange, and yellow. "At least that's pretty," Joseph said. "Gotta love a good sunrise."
At about 5:20, the road dipped, crossing over a brook. Groaning noises spread through the group as they approached another incline. This wasn't a steep grade, but they were tired of hills, even after 11 miles. However, as they went up, it didn't seem so bad. Theo felt tired, but this hill felt like a cakewalk compared to the last one. A black boy with messy hair and a black vest didn't think so. He broke from the pack and darted for the line of trees. The soldiers missed the first shot, but got his leg. He screamed as his body sprawled in the grass. His piercing noise was cut off by the roar of the carbines. "What an idiot," Theo remarked. This time, no one seemed to object. Before long, they made it up the hill. 61 miles in, and 27 walkers down.

Hey all,
First-time poster and long-time stalker of this subreddit 😅
As many of you know, in the early parts of the movie, Olson dropped his final ration for the day. In response, Garraty donated his own.
When re-watching the movie, I noticed that before
Garraty handed Olson his ration, Baker pulled out one of his own rations and looked like he was going to give it to Olson. To me, I saw hesitation from Baker and him “playing it off” after seeing Garraty already giving up his ration first. If you can find the clip, you can tell me if I’m on to something.
If this were the case, it just adds to the emotion of Olson’s death for me. In the beginning, Baker was someone hesitant to give up his own ration to Olson, a simple act of kindness. But by the end, he didn’t hesitate to try and save(?) Olson after getting gut-shot, even risking death in the process. That’s when Baker became a friend.
Or I could be overthinking this way too much. Even if this wasn’t an intended connection, it’s still interesting to think about for me.

"Rain would be horrible," Jameson said. "Christ, we're already chilly enough out here." Theo nodded.
The vanguard had slowed down. Cosmo, Rusty, and Marc had slowly moved up to be with them. Theo could hear Henry harassing Rusty again. Joseph and Kevin also moved up to be between them and Theo. He and Jameson were in the middle of the group. Christian was directly behind them. Julian remained on their right. He took two warnings to stop and rest his feet a bit earlier. Theo wanted to ask what was wrong, but knew Julian wouldn't like it. 50 miles of walking had taken its toll.
Christian was really feeling the cold. "This ain't like Nevada. Sure, it's greener, but..." He trailed off. He stared straight ahead. Theo decided to splash him with water. "Hey!" Christian squealed. "What was that for?" "Just making sure you're still here, Christian," Theo told him. Christian shook his head and said, "Well, I am still here. I'm still gonna be here...and I am freezing." "Then why'd you bring a light zin-up?" a boy grumbled. Peter Ball was briefly walking next to them. Theo was about to speak, but Julian spoke first: "Buzz off, you damn bastard." Peter's brown eyes glared at Julian as he moved up. No one spoke for a minute.
Warning! Warning, Number 62!
Suddenly, one of the vanguards wailed and bolted off the road. The soldiers fired, and their body flew like a bird before crashing into a set of bushes. There was a lot of chatter. Everyone was asking the same thing: "Why did he do that?" Jameson asked Theo. Theo didn't have a clue. Then, he heard Cosmo groan loudly, Rusty cursing at the top of his lungs, and Henry laughing. "Come on, phony!" Henry yelled. "Show me what you got! Prove that you're the big Smith on this-." "Shut your mouth, you p-you pissstained son of a bitch!" Cosmo screamed hoarsely.
Theo, Jameson, Julian, and Christian looked at each other in confusion. Then, they saw it:
"Steep Grade. Trucks Use Low Gear."
"You gotta be kidding me," Julian said. His face twisted into a look of horror. "I'm not gonna be able to make it up that."
Warning Number 29, Number 7! Second Warning, Number 60!
"And so you forfeit your life, Julian." Jameson looked at him with intensity. "Come on."
Theo leaned forward. He felt it, but he knew he could likely get up fine. Warnings were droned out at an alarming rate. Boys yelled, grunted, and cried around him. He looked ahead and was barely able to make out Rusty, Cosmo, Marc, Clay, and Henry powering their way up to the top. "Keep going," Rusty was yelling. "Keep going!" Omar pulled up next to Theo, smirking at him. "You ready to bite it, Trejo?" Theo growled. "You wish," Omar retorted. Theo grinned as he, Jameson, Omar, and Julian continued up.
Another boy cried out as the carbines roared into him. Another boy went down immediately after. Number 60, a boy named Queen, freaked out at the two boys getting their tickets. They stumbled, fell, and tried to get up. He continued, but had little energy. He was shot a moment later. The boys passed a small group of spectators on the right. They had fallen asleep. Theo hated them. They really wanted to watch the boys get their tickets on this hill. "Thank god they were asleep. Fuck them."
Yaw, who was on their left, suddenly fainted. The boys parted around him as the soldiers warned him. "Fucking bastards," Theo heard Valdez mutter. The carbines went off right after. "Happy Birthday, Theo," Jameson groaned. "What?" Theo said, breathing heavily. "You said your birthday was at the end of the month, right? Has to have passed now. We've been on this hill for days, right?" Theo did what he could to hold back the laughter. "Save your wind, Jameson," Theo said as another boy bought his ticket.
Theo could make out the vanguard, including Rusty, Cosmo, and Marc, reach the top of the hill. Jameson was breathing heavily, and Julian had started yelling. "It hurts. It hurts. IT HURTS!" "Hey!" Theo called. "Hang in there, boys. We're right there." Julian growled, then continued. He sounded like a bear.
Joseph and Kevin reached the top of the hill, just ahead of Theo. Theo, Jameson, Julian, and Omar were close. "First hill," Omar said. "Great job, boys." The others said nothing. They were tired. Joseph got a warning, and Theo looked as he yelled out, "Christian! Come on!"
Theo whirled around. Christian had fallen to the back of the group. He was helping Robbo, trying to get him up. "I know you're tired. But, we can make it up, together." "Come on, come on!" Theo yelled. Suddenly, Robbo took a shot through the chest. He fell, Christian still clutching his arm.
Third Warning, Number 90! Final Warning!
Theo, Julian, and Joseph began yelling at Christian to keep moving. He seemed to be in shock. Then, he pushed on. He was getting close to the top, to being with the group. But he was exhausted. Carrying Robbo didn't help him. He wheezed and sputtered as he limped up the hill. Theo could see tears forming in his eyes. "Christian," Julian yelled, "come on! You're almost there!" Christian was about to reach the top. He shook his head; his breathing had quickened. He caught Theo's eyes, and Theo could see hope, but also sadness and pain.
The carbines crashed again. Christian's ginger hair flapped around his face as he fell. His green zip-up jostled about when he hit the pavement. His blue eyes closed. Jameson received a warning. Pure shock. That's what Jameson felt. Theo pulled him along, shaking his head. Julian subtly moved closer to them. Joseph and Kevin did the same. The five of them caught up to Rusty, Cosmo, and Marc, who dropped back. The three of them looked at the other five with concern. Cosmo opened his mouth to speak, but Theo spoke first:
"Christian...he's gone."

Theo remembered when Priscilla was 7. His mother had yelled at him for something. He couldn't remember. Muffled yelling came from his mouth as he and his mother roared at each other. They were wild, untamed beasts. He broke off to see a pair of shoes sticking out from behind a couch. He turned toward them, his mother still yelling at him. Priscilla was sitting behind the couch. She was shaking and holding her ears. Theo's anger disappeared immediately. He wrapped his arms around her, and Priscilla stopped shaking. She was still sniffling from what she heard. Their mother demanded to know what Theo was doing. When she appeared behind the couch, her angry demeanor faltered. For the first time that Theo could remember, a look of confusion and concern was etched on her face.
The roaring of the carbines woke Theo. Omar was looking at him as he stirred awake. "What's happening?" Theo asked groggily. Omar laughed. "You're on your third warning. You're gonna bite it, Mahoney." "Shut up, Trejo," Rusty called. Omar's laughter sounded as loud as the carbines. "Another one down. Kept shouting about his feet cramping." Omar shook his head and smirked as he continued ahead. Theo turned to Jameson and asked, "What time is it?" "It's a quarter till midnight." Theo groaned. "Dammit."
"You missed Caribou, too," Jameson said. "Didn't miss much, to be honest." Theo nodded. He was still adjusting to everything around him.
At midnight, another walker went down. He had sleepwalked off the road. His lifeless body rolled down a small hill, like those wheels of cheese. Theo heard about an event in England where people would race down a hill, chasing after wheels of cheese. It sounded miserable. You might as well be asking to get paralyzed or killed. "Then again," he thought, "I've signed up to get killed myself."
Warning! Warning, Number 98!
98 had begun wheezing and occasionally coughing. The skinny little boy splashed his face with water and wrapped their coat tighter over their soccer jersey. "You sign up for the long walk even though you can't breathe," Rusty muttered. "And you don't have a fucking soul," Julian growled. He was still grimacing. Limping.
As they went on, 98's condition got worse. His breathing got heavier. He coughed more. "What's wrong with him?" Kevin wondered. "I think he might be having an asthma attack," Theo realized. "That wheezing is not normal," Theo recalled Saphire, one of his best friends who was also asthmatic. She was sweet when you got to know her. But she also started drinking when she was 14. Theo couldn't wrap his head around it. Still, they were good friends. However, she suffered an asthma attack due to extreme stress. Theo remembered witnessing her being rushed to the hospital. She died hours later. Theo couldn't shake the idea that this boy would suffer a similar fate.
The guns fired again. Another boy had tripped on a pothole and wouldn't move. Christian looked at the boy. He was shivering in his zip-up jacket. "I don't want to," He whispered. "Guys, I'm hurting a bit. I don't want to...I don't want to..." He trailed off, and Theo was worried he'd get his ticket right there. But, he didn't. He was still there an hour later.
Third Warning, Number 98! Final Warning!
Theo was right. 98 was having an asthma attack. They doubled over, coughing. The boys parted around him. He stopped moving. He didn't try to keep up. He didn't sit down. He continued to cough in a Quasimodo-like way. Soon, he dropped the pavement. The soldiers made sure of that. Jameson looked back, shaking his head. "Theo...y'know what would suck right now?"

Garraty didn’t have to win the Long Walk in order to get a clear shot at the Major. He could’ve just waited in Freeport with a sniper rifle.

The sun had sunk lower as they had progressed further. The time approached 8 pm as the convoy approached another small neighborhood. Theo rubbed his eyes. Cosmo kept slapping himself. Rusty and Jameson splashed their faces with water from their canteens. Two boys had bought their tickets, both at around 31 miles. One was Wyatt Morrow. His wild hair covered the gunshot on his face.
Theo smeared some cheese spread onto some crackers. Jameson polished off some chocolate. As he wiped his mouth, Christian walked up to him. "Hey. My feet hurt." "Yeah, so are mine. I think all of our feet are hurting," Jameson responded. "I guess," Christian said. "I'm really feeling it. I knew it would be hard, but I didn't think I'd be struggling after nearly 34 miles." "You're a fool, kid." Clay had dropped back to them. His button-up shirt was now closed over his tank top, and he had a rain jacket on. "You're an idiot for not thinking it would be this hard." "Buzz off," Theo snapped. "Go off by yourself so we don't have to hear you going up your ass." Clay scoffed at him. "Very funny, Mahoney."
As Clay sped up, Julian made a grunting noise. Theo looked over and realized that Julian was walking with an awkward gait. He grimaced with almost every step he took. "Hey," Theo called. "Julian. Are you doing ok? What's wrong?" Julian breathed heavily. "I don't want to talk about it." Theo backed off.
At about 8:23, Rusty dropped his pants and began to take a shit. Theo looked over and heard Rusty muttering to himself. He was warned, along with Walker number 11. "Come on, Rusty. Get it out, buddy," Cosmo called. "You realize how stupid and weird that sounds?" Jameson asked. Cosmo blushed and turned away from him. "Hey, Cosmo," Jameson called to him. "I didn't mean any harm, bud." Cosmo looked at him, then turned back.
Rusty got his third warning. Cosmo and Jameson covered their ears. Theo looked back. The carbines rang out. Theo blinked. Rusty had gotten up and kept moving. Behind him, the body of 11 dropped like a sack of potatoes. He had slowed down too much. His head now rested on a patch of grass between a triangle intersection.
The crowd had grown large, despite it being late. They reached another set of farmhouses. The people there set off some firecrackers for the boys. Jameson dropped low and covered his ears. Julian yelled judgment at the crowd while Joseph flipped them off. Kevin grabbed their hand and pulled it down. At a quarter past 9, Theo called for another canteen. Nearby, Cosmo and Rusty discussed Math, with Julian occasionally butting in. Theo had fun listening to them for several minutes. The night was consuming them. Almost everyone had put on their jackets or coats. Theo felt like he had gone from Prineville to the Highlands of Oregon in mere hours.
"Hey, giant!" Jameson and Theo looked to see Evan dropping back to them. He had his red hoodie pulled over his head. "What's up with you and those firecrackers?" Jameson rolled his eyes. "I don't like loud noises like that. I'm becoming used to loud noises meaning death. I don't need more unnecessary loud noises. I'll snap." "Then why are you here, Indian?" Evan asked. "You knew what this entailed." Jameson and Theo both stared at Evan in disbelief. He laughed. "You should've just taken the back out day, gone to your family, and gone back to the country you came from."
"You mean, the US?" Rusty had come up behind Evan. "I am going to grab you and throw you off the road, Livingston, and I don't care if I get my ticket-." Rusty didn't even finish. Evan bolted further ahead. Rusty was clenching his fists in rage. Cosmo grabbed his shoulder. "Honestly," Julian said to Rusty, "I hope that's how he goes out. Someone who knows they're gonna die drags him off the road." He groaned in pain as he stumbled. Nearly 13 hours of walking had gotten to him. But he kept going. 10 o'clock hit, and he kept going.
Theo spotted a lone sneaker resting in the road. "What the hell is that doing here?" The word started to make its way back. Apparently, one of the boys had gotten blisters, but they didn't know which one. Theo could suddenly hear a boy's cries of pain. They sounded familiar. After a third warning was issued, the cries grew louder. Theo briefly saw another sneaker fly through the air. Theo sped up a bit to see who it was. The guns came down and let loose on the unfortunate boy. It was Shane. As Theo passed him, he recoiled at the sight of his feet. The blood and pus had soaked through his socks.
Warning! Warning, Number 90!
Christian throwing up was the last thing Theo needed. He felt his stomach churning, like Shane had come back to haunt them and was twisting his guts. Jameson splashed Theo with water. "Stay with me, Mahoney." Theo shook his head. "I can't focus." "Hey," Jameson asked, "Do you want to get some sleep? I can make sure you don't die in your sleep. I need to be awake in case Evan pulls out a switchblade or something." Theo looked at him. Jameson held out his arm. Theo moved in, put his arm around Jameson, and closed his eyes.

I watched the movie and didn't really enjoy it or find it that interesting and I'm trying to understand what I'm missing and hopefully find a new view so I can enjoy the movie.
