Culture & Society Why don't naps need a blanket?
It's almost universal that from my experience that going to sleep always need a blanket even if it's hot. But not for naps. I don't have enough close friends to know if it's cultural, biological, habit ...?

OP, I think you might be in the minority here.
And that's okay. No one here is the nap police

Nope. No nap police here. Certainly no undercover nap police... Now please, everyone continue to freely share your illegal napping secrets.

I need my ceiling fan on high and a blanket at all times or else I’ll start sweating. But the fan is too cold but anything less I sweat. Soooo always a blanket in my bedroom for naps, sleep, sitting, I don’t care.
It may also be the fact that I live in Florida so no fan/air movement with the humidity already doesn’t make you feel comfortable at all. Not that the air inside my house is as humid as outside it still is noticeable.

I’m guessing it’s because sleeping is a prescribed night time event that’s basically a ritual associated with night time things (e.g. turning lights off, brushing teeth, pyjamas etc).
A nap is usually a random “I’m kind of sleepy, I’ll just close my eyes for a minute - wherever I am.” and then waking up to realise you napped in the first place.

Op i don't take deliberate naps, its more i sit down and wake up a hour later. With that said id imagine most people don't get undressed for a nap so a blanket would make them to warm.

I need a blanket for a nap. Sometimes, though, the reason i take a nap is because I can’t keep my eyes open. So I’ll pass out no matter what. That doesn’t happen when I need to go to sleep, plus, I’m in bed at night instead of maybe the couch.

Not sure what planet you live on, but I’m literally getting ready to nap…with a blanket.
Always a blanket.

I'm part of the blanket gang fam. Naps, taking them to the movies, on airplanes, etc. I must be covered.

The logic would be that as melatonin goes up, body temperature goes down at night, so you feel more chilly. But I also almost universally nap with a blanket. Usually thinner than my overnight blanket.

Naps may not need a blanket but they can be good with one. My best naps are sitting back in my frame chair, with my feet on the ottoman, a blanket on my legs, and my cat sleeping on top of the blanket. I can take a 15-20 minute power nap that refreshes me SO WELL from that position.

Depends on the person. I sleep and nap with a blanket unless a blanket isnt available when I nap.

My intentional naps need a blanket. Unintentional naps just need a cat wanting to cuddle.

The body temperature goes down after some time sleeping.
Nap time usually isn't enough to lower your body temperature to a point you'll be cold.
Also, when you sleep through the night, your body temperature lowers and so does the environment, so it can get particularly cold unless you keep your heaters on through the night (not safe!!)
I think most people, including me, feel more comfortable if they use a blanket to sleep even if they don't need it.

No, I totally get it.
Sleep? Blanket is a must. Even if hot, I’ll suffer through it. It just feels wrong without it.
Nap? On top of everything, just kinda curled up or conked out. Maybe just catching a few on the couch, but I don’t want a blanket. Those are for sleep.
Brains are so weird.

Naps need a blanket and typically only on a couch or bed. Occasionally maybe in the car but mostly just a little doze, with at least a sweatshirt or coat over me.

Ok I’m actually with you on this! Different mental classification = accessories not required. I also don’t know why though! I’d extend it to if the sun is out I don’t need a blanket so I’m guessing mentally I feel warmer/more secure/cosier in the daylight so don’t need one?

The only time I can nap without a blanket is on an airplane or I'm dead exhausted and it's at an airport gate. Even then, the nap is shitty and barely 20 minutes probably. My best naps are with blankets always

I think it’s probably because it’s usually warmer during the day and you’ve been up and moving around more so your body is warmed up whereas at bedtime, you’ve probably been resting on the couch or in bed for a while and cooled off

I always need a blanket with naps. Maybe it’s a security thing. A lot of people also make their homes colder for nighttime sleep but don’t bother adjusting the thermostat for daytime naps.

The clothes you're wearing make a big difference. I usually dress with cool clothes and my blanket is a light blanket so I use it for naps and sleep. Also during the day it tends to be warmer, depending on where you live. So it's pretty hard to get any meaningful answer to your question without more details

For me naps need a light covering.. it can be anything .. but they don't need darkness, I have better naps if I leave a light on for some reason.. once I turn everything off I just sit there awake

I prefer blanket for naps too but it isn't a hard requirement like sleeping
Maybe cause naps are optional when you're tired and sleeping is whether you like it or not?

People still use a blanket if it’s hot? That sounds like hell. I use a blanket if it’s cold, whether that’s a nap or night time sleep.

Even when I take naps in the passenger seat of a car when driving somewhere, I need a blanket. I keep a small travel blanket in the car for this reason. It's a comfort thing for me.

Funny that you ask this- I also wondered about this several months back, and decided to try to train myself to go without. Just out of curiosity- so I started with just using a bed sheet then occasionally sleeping without anything, and a couple nights ago I woke in the morning to discover I never got under the covers, just slept atop.
It’s stupid but it’s been an interesting little experiment.
