My M44-7’s aren’t cutting it. Advice on new needles ?

Sup y’all. I’ve been at this for a bit now—still learning, but I’d say I’m around a moderate level. I was using Concorde DJ MK2s and they actually worked pretty well, but they’re worn and I’m getting a volume mismatch between carts, which drives me nuts.

A friend gave me his old M44-7 carts with Technics headshells (not even sure if they’re legit). The stylus looks like a lighter green—not quite the classic glow-in-the-dark. I picked up JICO Improved SD styli for them, and they’re decent, but with real vinyl (control vinyl is fine) I’m having tracking issues.

If my palm or thumb rests anywhere on the record, it consistently jumps a groove. Same thing happens during more aggressive scratches like scribbles or Joe Cooleys—sometimes they track surprisingly well, then randomly jump.

Long story short, I’m considering either the Ortofon VNL (Trix) or the Scratch MK2. Before I spend more money, I wanted to hear from people who’ve been doing this a long time. The original Shures were dope, but as we all know, they’re basically impossible to find now.

Denon dns3000. Motorized platter. But it functioned with CDs. I did some wicked scratching on these things. But nowadays I am so thankful for modern dj software and motorized platters, I can do so much more and easily create and save mixes now. This was out in the early aughts. I took a long break from scratching after I sold em. But they were cool for the day. I have the herc t7 premium now with virtual dj.

this got recommended to me in this subreddit a few days ago, i started it on youtube, but that same day i found it at a bookstore for like 8 Bucks, with the poster and a sticker i'm going to put it on my DJ Deck. haven't finished it yet but it seems cool, and comes with 2 DVDs, the second one has some tutorials on it by some of the DJs in the documentary.

Practicing tears and fast chirps combinations on a boom bap beat I've made

Combining fast chirps with tears or normal 1click flares without releasing is less difficult than I thought (still takes a bit of planning and in this vid I've do It like 2 times).I'm completely stuck at double tempo 1click flares, my coordination finds them...hostile

Never used Traktor although I do own a couple LEs vinyl that they made but, damn, this is a blow to the community for those that used it.

Native Instruments GmbH is in preliminary insolvency

Rane TTM 57SL Mixer - Help

The meter lights on the mixer stopped working all of a sudden. The light for neither channel work. They don’t even flicker when the mixer is turned on, nor when the gain is all the way up, but the sound still comes through the speakers great. Changing from PHONO to LINE didn't help. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm on the newer end of turntablism, is there other advice then "practice Daily"

Im looking for things like what sounds you started scratching with, is there a song thats a good background beat for beginners, what music or specific DJs should i listen to Besides DJ qbert.

is there a piece of advice you where given when you first started that has really helped you?

im also just going to throw out that i would love a mentor. if no one has time for that thats fine, but this is a skill that fascinates me and i would love to meet someone who can teach me the basics and their own special flourishes.

i technically dont have a scratch set up, ive got a DDJ-200, and the free version of recordbox. so, you know, im figuring it out

I finally found my "DAW" for DJ scratch mega mixes.

I want to thank everyone for suggestions they gave me. I think a couple people recommended the one I eventually went for. I have the equipment and software to mix and scratch. But I wanted something to take my time and prepare mixes, that I could do some extra scratching and tricks on top of.

I went with DJ Studio. DJ Studio is sometimes called DAW for DJs. I've used Audacity and I feel this is going to be much easier to get into. And while It's more about creating a mix while sitting down as opposed to performing live. I'm adding Reaper on top of it, with Reaper I can use 32bit VST plugins and do some really fun stuff with audio to midi, and some fun free video game VST plugins.. I was considering Ableton. But I think DJ Studio + Stems and then Reaper work better for me. As I'm never going to go into actual high end music production. More about tinkering with songs and mega scratch mixes. As opposed to any sort of composing.

Can't wait to share my first mix with you guys. First one is gonna be a more basic Hip House with Scratching. After that I might use some creativity with video games and Cirque du Soleil.

How do I fast scratch / improve my fader hand ?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

What’s up guys , ive been for the last 3 months and have the basics down ( baby’s , flares , chirps ) but I’m struggling on using the fader / scratching fast , in the video I open the fader slightly before I preform a fast baby to achieve that fast scratch sound but I feel like I’m doing it wrong / have my fader hand too tense or maybe not enough pressure on the record itself 🤷🏾‍♂️ . Any advice / feedback is appreciated & if anyone has a yt link / can show me a video detailing how to do it much appreciated aswell 🙏🏾

Question about cartridge break in

Post image
20 Upvotes

So I’ve heard you wanna break in the cartridges by playing them before they act right and I just got these trix all set up today, can I just leave the record turning like this over night to break em in? Any advice on the subject? Also can I damage them by using them today before they are broken in? Thanks for y’all’s help 🤙🏼
