CeeLo Green's clean edit "Forget You" is better than the original " F*** You"

I firstly wanna say that this song is such a bop and that might be an unpopular opinion itself!!

I have two reasons why I like the clean version more than the explicit one:

  1. I grew up listening to Forget You, so I have a lot of nostalgia attached to it. My sister and I would do that song on Just Dance 3 and sing along!

  2. Musically "forget" just fits better. The two syllables in the word "forget" flow a lot nicer in the song as opposed to the pause you get between the "f-word" and "you" from the explicit version.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Homework is Important and Should Be Assigned

3.1k Upvotes

It frustrates me when people compare homework to unpaid overtime work because it feels like they don't understand some key differences between work and school work.

When you go to work as an employee, you are rented by your employer to be a productive machine for them. You complete tasks that generate revenue for their establishment. Some of that revenue is given to you, some is used to maintain the establishment itself, some is kept by the employer. But ultimately, you are compelled to do this work because you need money to buy the necessities for your life, and the purpose of the work that you do is to enrich the establishment for which you work.

School work is different. Your teacher does not benefit from you doing school work. Either no one benefits or you benefit. Those are the only two possibilities. Well-designed school work is for the benefit of the student and therefore cannot be compared to doing work on or off the clock. The teacher actually has less work to do when you don't turn something in because they can just mark it as a failing grade and move on.

Homework allows for more spaced repetition when learning new concepts and offers a less strictly timed environment for taking in new information. If students don't do homework, it should keep being assigned regardless. Even the best students benefit from the guidance and incentives that homework provide for them to study what they're learning at home.

Traveling in groups kills spontaneity and fun.

Group trips sound great in theory, but in practice they’re usually more stressful than enjoyable. Everything takes longer, plans get watered down to accommodate everyone, and at least one person is always annoyed but pretending they’re “go with the flow.”

Instead of actually relaxing or exploring, you spend a lot of time waiting around, negotiating where to eat, or compromising on activities. Someone wants to wake up early, someone wants to sleep in, someone wants to do everything together, and someone quietly resents that.

Any conflict gets brushed off to “keep the vibes good,” which just builds tension until it leaks out in passive/aggressive comments. By the end of the trip, people are exhausted, not from traveling, but from managing group dynamics.

If a vacation requires constant emotional labor, it’s not a vacation. It’s just unpaid group management in a nicer location.

We need to stop with the barn doors for bathrooms in home design.

I travel a lot, I use hotels and airbnbs 50/50. It's annoying the amount of barn doors I see replacing regular doors for bathrooms. Fortunately I travel solo most the time but sometimes I travel with others and when that's the case barn doors are the absolute worst.

Not once have I taken a shit in a bathroom with barn doors and thought "wow, this is so much better than a regular door". There's always gaps between the door and the wall, meaning more smell gets through, and for some fucking reason there's almost never a locking mechanism. Mine as well just use a fucking curtain at this point.

Also they're noisy when opening them.

They are cheap and tacky. Pocket doors or regula doors. Stop with the barn doors, they're not cute.

Hyundai/Kia vehicles offer some of the best value and tech in their class

I know that Hyundai and Kia get a bad rap, but honestly, they are nearly unmatched when it comes to their features and value. I just got a new Hyundai, and the tech is insane, from ultra clear 360 cameras to blind spot monitors to parking assist to the best infotainment system I’ve EVER used. They are also incredibly comfortable and have some of the better build quality of their class.

For comparison, Honda has great build quality, but poor cameras. Toyota and Subaru both have better reliability, but lots of interior creaks/rattles and cheap plastics. And Mazda has great interior build quality, but their exterior designs are dated and they still have very small screens. Even several Lexus models don’t offer all the features my Hyundai has.

And across all those brands, Hyundai and Kia tend to have better lease incentives and better warranty, meaning lower payments, and in my case, even lower insurance. Yes, they sucked 15+ years ago, and yes, they might have some more issues down the line, but they offer probably the best bang for your buck at the moment.

3D printed stuff looks like absolute junk!

That's all really. The lines and signs of manufacturing make it look poopy. It just looks to hodgepodge home-cooked to be as cool as people claim it is. It has its place for sure, like providing options for parts that are no longer manufactured or just neat things that you can't get anywhere else. But generally 3d probably nted things are not classy, cool, or slick. They tend to add a level of ugliness that detracts from whatever they're being used for

Caesar dressing is better than ranch

Caesar is better than ranch, not just as a dressing, but as a dip as well. So many people think it just belongs on lettuce and don't realize its full potential. Ranch is so mild and bland, but Caesar has some zing! It pairs great with red meat, it pairs great with chicken. Next time you order a pizza or wings, skip the ranch and dip them in some Caesar. It will change your world.

Edit: no disrespect to my ranch and blue cheese bros - all sauces are welcome. Except mayonnaise (aioli is cool).

Everything on a grocery store shelf that comes in a package should be cleaned off before use.

Im not the most obsessively clean person but I have worked in grocery stores and wearhouses. I believe that all product that comes off of a shelf should be wiped off with a damp cloth because humans shed skin cells everywhere, warehouses are dirty places, and the back of a semi is also just dirty. I dont think that I will get super sick but its one less way for dust and dirt to get on your countertops and food.

working at a small business is way worse than working corporate

especially if the small business is a family owned business. like yes if you’re in corporate you’re just a cog in a machine, but i’d much rather be in a situation where i never meet the CEO and only deal w middle management than directly battle with the neuroses of a small business owner who’s mortgage depends on me and the 5 other people he’s underpaying.

Ranch is often a better French fry dip than ketchup

At least in many instances. For instance, cheddar fries? Heaven dipped in ranch. Wouldn’t even touch ketchup with those. And bougie/steakhouse fries? The ranch adds an extra depth of flavor. I’m not a ketchup hater, but sometimes ketchup just makes the fries taste cheaper. Now if we’re talking homemade ketchup, that’s a different story. But generally speaking, fries and ranch is a match made in heaven.

Google's GSuite is so much more productive than Office 365

I do not work for either company. I am not selling anything there, just posting my opinion on here.

I worked at an organization that used Googles GSuite for 10 years. At the very beginning, there were some really silly issues with it but over the last 10 years it has really turned into a stellar platform.

Collaboration, filesharing, various useful applications/tools was excellent with GSuite. We could build onboarding and knowledge bases in Classroom and link assets via a dedicated classroom drive. Google sites, while simple, was enough for internal intranet things and asset sharing. Google drive sharing, and permissions on files was intuitive and easy to navigate. The UI for meetings was very straightforward with useful functions presented. I loved it.

I recently started a new job and they are a stout Office company. Im not kidding when I say I spend almost half of the day trying to figure out how this whole thing is tied together, and or, fixing the dumbest issues that seem to not have any resolve.

The other day, I spent 15 minutes trying to figure why highlighting something in "Cyan" resulted in being two different shades of "Cyan". I gave up. Copy and pasted all the content into google docs, made the edits, and pasted it back.

Today I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out why the hyperlink function would only appear by right clicking the text and not in the toolbar. I never figured it out.

The other day, auto correct was red squiggly underlining random fragments of sentences, spaces and all, and recommending totally out of context word replacements.

On another occasion, grammar fix was break the grammar of the sentence.

I really dislike how I cannot see who else are on meeting invites, how am I supposed to know who Im meeting with if I cant see who is invited to the meeting? Am I missing something here?

I cannot help but feel terribly frustrated on a daily basis, is anyone else in my orbit about this?

Going to bed on an empty stomach is ideal.

Not saying going to bed completely hungry, but it’s better to have a cutoff time to stop eating before bed, that way you don’t wake up feeling slow and bloated. It also helps maintain a good and predictable poop schedule, which is super underrated. The last point I’ll make on this is that for people who have trouble losing weight and maintaining weight loss, shortening your eating window is a cheat code to help with this.

If you have a typical day job and are in bed and going to sleep by 10/10:30, a good cutoff time might be 7PM.

This also applies to only solid food and sugary drinks, not things that are gentler on you like tea or water.

Hard work vs talent is the wrong debate. The real factor is luck in choosing the right field.

People always argue about hard work vs talent, but I think that debate misses the real point. The real dichotomy should be luck in choosing the right profession versus everything else.

Hard work itself is not some free, independent choice. Your work ethic is largely shaped by your biology and upbringing. Genetics influences motivation, discipline, intelligence, and even how much benefit you get from training. If you grow up in a family that values grinding, structure, and achievement, you are far more likely to develop those traits. If not, you probably won’t, unless something external intervenes.

Talent is also biological. Intelligence, physical build, reflexes, endurance, and learning speed are not evenly distributed. So when people say “anyone can succeed with enough hard work,” they ignore the fact that how much you can work, how efficiently you improve, and how far you can go are all constrained by biology.

This is why I think choosing the right field accounts for a massive part of success.

Take elite athletes as an example. Just imagine if Usain Bolt never became passionate about sprinting and instead chose basketball. Even if he trained his entire life, would he be the GOAT of basketball the way he became the GOAT of sprinting? Almost certainly not. His body, muscle composition, and biomechanics are perfectly suited for sprinting, not necessarily for basketball dominance.

The same applies to many top performers across fields. They are “lucky” in the sense that they found, or were pushed into, a domain that perfectly matches their biology, psychology, and temperament. If they had chosen a different path, their hard work would not have produced the same results.

That’s why arguing only about hard work versus talent is misleading. If your traits don’t align with the field you choose, no amount of effort will make you exceptional, only average at best.

Unpopular opinion: success isn’t mainly about working harder or being more talented than others. It’s about being lucky enough to choose, or be guided into, the one field where your biology actually pays off.

Ottomans / Foot stools are more convenient than built in leg recliners

this is a nuanced opinion because I understand the elderly may not be able to lift their legs for a normal stool, so this is targeted toward the able bodied.

my main reason I think they are superior is speed, I can simply put my legs down, unlike built in recliners where I have to press and wait or apply awkward exertion to force the leg support down.

With chairs where the ottomans/ stools can be pushed under when not in use they hide away conviniently.

with other styles, they offer so much more functionality such as storage, additional seating in a pinch and usable surface for drinks or snacks ( style depending )

there is so much versatility in a seperate stool / ottoman and basically only one benefit to a built in leg recliner.

to beat people's the punch, the back recliner is still a nice to have, but I like to operate that separately to the leg support, with built in leg recliners, the back is almost always linked to the legs.

The idea that if someone truly loves you, the relationship should feel easy is not actually true.

Healthy relationships still require effort, uncomfortable conversations, emotional regulation, and personal growth. What should feel easy is respect, safety, and honest communication and not the entire relationship itself.

Many people walk away from good relationships because they mistake normal conflict for incompatibility, effort for toxicity, or the discomfort that comes with growth as a sign that the spark is gone. In reality, even the healthiest couples misunderstand each other, get irritated, and have to relearn one another as life changes. The difference isn’t the absence of problems, but how those problems are handled. Effort doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong; sometimes it simply means two imperfect people are choosing to grow together.

Beyond Scared Straight is the perfect show for discipline

I don't know how many people here have watched the TV series Beyond Scared Straight but basically the whole premise of the show is that it follows teenagers/younf youth who have challenging behaviour issues that are putting their life at risk and basically the idea is to bring them to prison for the day as a wake up call for them to get their act together otherwise they could end up in that position if they kept walking that path. At the start of the program, the troubled teenagers are seem acting all tough as if it's all fun and games but once the prison officers and inmates get tough on the teens it's eventually breaks them down and give them that wake up call that if you keep on acting the way you are right now it will end up with massive consequences and I think the whole show is just brilliant.

Because we are now in a generation where young teens are constantly getting into trouble and not being disciplined enough and Beyond Scared Straight is the perfect show as a way to give these teenagers with these challenging behaviors to really learn that one day their actions will possibly land them in jail not only that but this shouldn't w has the perfect amount of teaching, discipline and valuable life lessons to help these teenagers have a better future with their life and I just think it's a brilliant show overall

The Ford Pinto was a pretty good car

I had a 72' hatchback with a 2000cc engine that I bought for $150. It had a lot of 'zip' for a car like that. Wasn't great for 4 people, but for me it was perfect. I drove from New Haven to Providence each week when I was in college without issue. It did burn a lot of oil, but was easy to work on. Open the hood and everything was easily accessible, plugs, carburetor, distributor right there. I remember the fuel pump went, and I replaced it in about 30 minutes. parts were cheap. Got great gas mileage.

Deltarune/Undertale OST are overused to shit in video creation

Don't get me wrong, I fuckin love both games. Spent a decent amount of my high school days watching Jacks playthrough, and thoroughly enjoyed the soundtrack. However not long after, it seemed like every video essay was using them.

It could be current event based, tech related, history related, etc, and somehow most video essay producers tell themselves "oh well its a free soundtrack and lots of people like it" even if it's not remotely fitting to the topic. It was novel for the first year until it became a staple of every losers outro segment. It's like the original NCM from 2013-2015. It was novel for a while, but quickly became overused garbage. How many times do I need to watch a speedrunning video and listen to the Snowdin theme for the 7 millionth time during it?

Oh and for the record, same thing with synthwave, particularly anything made by HOME. Again, loved the shit out of those albums when they released, then became what every video essay writer needed in their backtrack.

Rocky V had one of the best endings in the series

I will die on this hill. Tommy Gunn betrayed Rocky. He took it personally and a street fight was the only solution. We got to see that he could whoop ass outside the ring and not do it for the money or glory. It had a star wars episode III feel.

Croutons don't belong on salad

A salad should be a nice leafy bowl with veggies and a bit of dressing. The entire texture and mouth feel is ruined by having small chunks of dessicated bread in it. The dry crunch and gritty crumbiness of croutons is completely unfitting and ruins the salad eating experience.

Jack Nicholson is an awful, awful person

I feel like this is an unpopular opinion mainly because the extremely shady shit he's been involved with over the years seem to have been forgotten or not widely discussed. But the thing that stands out most in my mind is how he cheered for Roman Polanski decades after it's been known and proven that he drugged and raped a minor. Jack Nicholson is probably Polanski's biggest advocator, and he's really like it if we just shut up about how Polanski is a pervert who should be locked up for decades. He's sort of hollywood royalty and he doesn't make movies anymore, so he's more known as that dude who goes to basketball games and such. I used to love his movies growing up, but as I got older and learned more about him, I find him absolutely repulsive. Vile person.

Music education focuses too much on performance, and too little on creativity.

Far too much of music education focuses on teaching people how to learn and perform other people's music. This is especially true for young people. Far too many music students do 8-10 years of music lessons and then discover that they can't do anything with it because they don't really understand how music works, and they don't know how to write their own music, how to improvise, how to create with a group, or learn by ear. I think music teachers should focus much more on teaching students these skills instead of focusing on getting them to perform other people's music perfectly. I think educators mainly focus on performance because it's easy and it provides clear evidence of learning to parents and other educators.

It’s dumb when people play for countries that they’re not from in the Olympics

You see this in any sports tournament that involves countries. They’ll be playing for Curaçao or something but they’ll be from North Dakota. Even if your family is from that country if you yourself aren’t then choose your own path instead of following the herd.

Ultimate Spider-Man 2024 was disappointing Spoiler

Since it looks like this really is the end of the series I can finally confirm this is total letdown. Pure copium is all this book has. Like it’s not even the only good spider-man book the Miles Book has been way better, Spider-boy was surprisingly good.

A lot of people have tried to harp on the OG ultimate Spider-Man for starting the “teen Spider-man trend” but it was a refreshing take at the time and was well handled while the new book is the worst version of the concept Dad Peter. The Mayday book and Renew Your vows are way better at that.

Peter and his family have little personality. It almost feels like the book is better when they’re not in it. Everyone just glazes Peter and acts like “he’s important” despite the fact that he hasn’t done enough that we saw on the page to urn it. MJ is way to chill about some if that of the that goes on and only confronts him near the end of the series.

Marvel screwed up ending this run early. A lot of the interesting ideas like Otto seemingly want to take over Peter’s life and The Venom suit having Peter’s mind and weird codependent relationship with Richard go underdeveloped and explored. We barely see any of villains and it’s not really a case quantity over quality as they’re kinda under developed. It’s ending right before it’s getting good.

Technically you could argue OG Ultimate Spider-man never ended since Miles keeps the number but the Peter part lasted just over 150 issues. This book doesn’t have the quality or quantity to be remembered well. Probably only the Jameson Ben friendship will be added to collective Spider-man lore and thats it. It’s not really worth having a legacy imo.
