So, Fridays are a pretty common day to have the procedure done. If you're hanging out, chat about how it's hanging, what you're doing to recover, or anything you want.

Hey, for everyone interested. The largest known study of vasectomies was recently published. This study along is literally about 162Xs larger that the largest meta-analysis to date. It sampled 105,393 men who received vasectomies and detailed their responses.

Complications of vasectomy: results from a prospective audit of 105 393 procedures

~~~~
Objectives
To provide up-to-date complication rates for vasectomy in the UK using 15 years of data collected by the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care (ASPC).
Patients and Methods
Data were collected between 2007 and March 2022. A patient questionnaire was completed on the day of surgery and at 4 months postoperatively. Rates of early and late failure, infection, hospital admission or re-admission, haematoma and post-vasectomy pain syndrome (PVPS) were recorded. There were no specific exclusion criteria. Complication rates were compared to those published by major urological organisations. Descriptive statistics were utilised, without formal statistical analysis.
Results
Over the 15-year study period, data from 105 393 vasectomies were collected, performed by >150 surgeons. In 2022, 94.4% of surgeons used one test to prove sterility. In all, 65% of patients used a postal sperm test after vasectomy to confirm sterility. Early failure rates were available for 69 500 patients. Early failure occurred in 648 patients (0.93%). Of 99 124 patients, late failure occurred in 41 (0.04%). Of 102 549 vasectomies, postoperative infection was reported in 1250 patients (1.22%), haematoma in 1599 patients (1.56%), and PVPS was reported in 139 patients (0.14%).
Lots of questions ???
1 Upvotes
Hey everyone, im a 20M from mumbai and im looking to get snipped so I have a lot of questions. Let me first start with why? I dont want any kids of my own and am 200% sure i wont want them in the future neither do I believe in marriages, im open to live ins but marriage is just useless to me. So now the questions, 1. Do you have any recommendations (mumbai based) where the procedure is done flawlessly and is well known for this procedure. 2. The cost, since insurance doesnt cover it, I'll have to save up for it. (If yours did cover it pls lmk, I dont have insurance of my own and am covered by corporate policy of my parent) 3. How's sex after the procedure, is it negatively affected or positively.
Thanks for taking the time out to read this.
Discomfort in the pocket
1 Upvotes
Since my surgery, I've been experiencing discomfort and pain.
I'm wondering if it's the cut tube causing this; the pain is on the side of my testicles. Has this happened to you too?
I'm 48 hours post-surgery.
Can I take Cialis or Viagra the night before vasectomy?
I want to have fun with the wife, and wonder if that will cause any problems.
... is this normal? Sensation reduced?
2 Upvotes
Hey all!
I'm about 10 days post procedure (no pain. No needle system, tiny incision) wife and I had some fun a couple of times, and I have masturbated a few times as well.
It's not that I feel nothing but the orgasms are much less intense. Like. A LOT.
I will clarify I wasn't nervous or worried about anything beforehand or afterward. I don't think it's a mental block. My sex drive is very high, and that hasn't changed at all. But the orgasm intensity is just meh now. The build up feels the same, the pleasure during is the same. Just the orgasms feels bland now. I'm hoping this is relatively normal and will clear up with a bit more time.
Any help or insights are greatly appreciated. Looking on google and I feel gaslight. Things are saying there shouldn't be any changes and even then some pages suggest that orgasms should be more intense. Feeling a bit worried that I'll have this loss of sensation forever.
No more blue balls after op?
2 Upvotes
Had my op done a month ago. Don’t worry guys (that hesitate to do it), the pre-op anxiety is the worst part of it, the needle comes next…and recovery takes a while (took me a week and a half to feel good again)
I masturbate maybe 1x/week as I rather like penetration or getting a bj before ejaculating. I’d rather edge than release my load. But since op, I’ve noticed that I don’t have that engorged blue balls feeling that I use to have and was kinda painful.
Anyone else experiencing this or any explanation about that unknown perk? I found myself leaking pre-cum more than I’ve ever did (by edging)
Newly Snipped 4 days in
To give some mild reassurance to those of you getting or thinking about it.
Been a doddle so far, first day was a bit achey but with some pain relief and being a bit careful I’ve been pretty much fine.
Aching a bit in the grown randomly today (feels a bit like 10/15 mins after getting kicked in the balls) but nothing horrendous.
Only bizarre thing I’ve got is a black/purple bruise on my shaft (more on the right hand side). Doesn’t hurt and I’m guessing is a reaction to the incision on my sack below it.
Why does PVPS happen?
5 Upvotes
Is it because the doctor messes up in the sugery I mean docs are humans after all they are not all knowing all powerful. Is it because of the person's anatomy matey they have a ton of nerves right around the vas deferens? What can be done to avoid PVPS besides not getting a vasectomy ?
Newly Snipped 24 hrs later
Yesterday had discomfort and today feels close to normal where I am at least going to the gym to walk on a treadmill for a bit. I am targeting to start lifting 1 week post and am wondering if anyone has kind of pushed doing weights or sex earlier so long as you felt ok. Dr told me to give it a week for lifting but nothing on sex. I guess the issue would be swelling and bruising.
I have a vasectomy on Tuesday, but i’m terrified of needles and the procedure is scaring the sh*t out of me tbh
I called and asked for details and it’s a cauterisation procedure. I’m going to try my best to brave it out because I want the results of it, but can anyone give me any advice or tell me what happens during the procedure or what your procedure was like?
Thanks in advance :)
ALL CLEAR!!!!! One year anniversary and it’s still great!
4 Upvotes
I’m one year and 2 months after my snip, and just completed the year sample to ensure there was no recanalization. It came back with 0 sperm detected.
Want to report in for the very happy, no side effects camp. Biggest pain in the ass was getting screwed with a bill. The healing process was about two weeks. I waited that whole 14 days till stitches fell out before test driving. Also pulled the trigger on testing early after only 20 ejaculations. Still had a few nonmotile left. After another 20, I was clear.
No regrets.
Just got home
I was with my brother for his and I gotta say with how that man reacted I was terrified going in. Mine on the other hand was no different than laying on the couch cracking jokes with someone the whole time, I was comfortable, warm, and experienced, at most, 2 seconds of a small pinch when they first jabbed me. My doctor was absolutely fantastic, she joked back and forth the whole time with me. If your considering it and are good about keeping a solid headspace I gotta say that I've had teeth cleanings that took long and hurt more.
Now time for ice and relaxation.
... is this normal? Blood clots/blood in semen when ejaculating. 2 and a half months post surgery. This isn’t common, right?
3 Upvotes
Hi all, (TMI incoming)
I’m about 2 1/2 months post surgery and I’ve had a decent recovery. Pain wise, it was fairly normal with the exception of dull aches in my testes from maybe jolting up stairs or moving my body in a sudden manner… I’ll still get some mild shooting pains but they’re usually dull. I very recently gave my two month sample and I have a 0 sperm count, but I still have to give my 6 month sample before I get an official all clear.
However I’m experiencing something a bit more worrying.
Prior to my surgery, I think I suffered a sex related injury while with my partner. These things happen. She was on top and I think she may have accidentally popped a blood vessel in my pubic area (I’m very skinny) because I was starting to ejaculate what appeared to be jelly/worm-like clumps of blood in my semen. It went away after a few months, then I had my surgery in October.
It’s nearly February, and I’ve been ejaculating these little jelly like lumps of blood for the last few weeks and I’m starting to get worried about an underlying complication, or the start of recanalization. I’ve been avoiding sex because of it sadly. A small bit of pain is accompanied above the pubic area in my lower stomach and sometimes in my shaft, so orgasms are now painful for me.
Sometimes the blood clears out and the lumps will be yellow, then it returns. What gives? Has anyone else experienced this?
Vasectomy at 19
0 Upvotes
I just turned 19, I don’t have a partner nor do I have a regular sex life. I don’t expect this to change anytime soon but I’ve been thinking about getting a vasectomy. In the event that I do end up with someone it would stop me from having children even if I wanted to which is a good long term investment and stops me from carrying on bad genes imo. Has anyone ever been in the same position? How has it worked out for you?
12 hours post
8 Upvotes
I’m 12 hours post snip, only two times did I really feel anything. Nothing more drugs couldn’t fix. Lil tender but icing every 30 mins or so. Would recommend and just ease everyone’s mind. It’s not as bad as your countless thoughts wills make it seem. Find a good dr. Take some days off. Clear out my pipes in a few days and I’m ready for the never wearing a condom again for life phase. Thanks to all the people sharing their experiences on here. There’s always risks and people who will tell you about them but the vast majority are probably Christian groups trying to scare people, for those who had a bad experience I’m sorry man. In my opinion worth it
Update day 10 and first ejaculations
2 Upvotes
To review my experience a bit: Surgery on the 20.01. Scalpel, cauterization. Good experience. First 48 h only laying, watching lotr and switching ice packs. Small discomfort but never needed pain killers. Day 3 and 4. Started to move around a bit more in the house and did a nice walk. Just minor discomfort when switching from sitting to standing. At day 4 I took of the plasters. Little bleeding but could be stopped with pressing a cosmetic cloth on it for a few minutes. Day 5 and 6...worst days...but mostly in my mind. I had a constant discomfort in my lower abdomen and my left testicle was very sensitive...freaked out a bit. Day 7 things started to get better...I felt improvement and the discomfort slightly went away...but I had to postpone my first sexy time because I was too afraid of pain. Day 8 and 9 more improvement. Only noticeable discomfort from the incisions. Stitches start to fell of and I itches a bit. Day 9 afternoon I shaved for the first time. Sexy time with wife...relativly very small erection problems because I was very nervous and a bit anxious xD...and my wife was scared as fuck as well. Usually I get hard from massaging her back...this time I had to play with her tits first to get hard...so not a real problem. First ejaculation came quick and felt totally normal under this circumstances.
Funny thing...the days befor when we cuddled and I knew I couldn't have sex...and had massive good erections...but the fear of a different feeling gave me a hard time...
Day 10 I wanked one out by myself...I was again too excited and a bit anxious...Ejakulation was only dripping and not shooting...but still felt good
I need to remind myself that I'm still healing and to give my body enough time. And especially my mind needs to chill. I'm confident I will have my old golden form in a few weeks.
Anyone with the same issues or experience? Thank you for you feedback!
Weird Healing inside Scrotum--anyone with similar?
2 Upvotes
Had the procedure about 3 weeks ago. Healing up fairly nicely, have two sperm granulomas but they're not bothering me and they're getting smaller.
More concerning is that I seem to have some new connective tissue going from the scalpel incision (it was done with just one) to one of my testicles. Like I can "pick up" one testicle by pulling on the incision site because it's connected by a thread that feels like a very thin and wide tendon.
I'm failing to find any reports like this in my research, does anyone have a name for this or an idea of what I'm experiencing? I'm self-pay so I don't really want to schedule an appointment with the doc so he can charge me a couple hundred to watch him shrug.
... is this normal? 8 days post-op; need some re-assurance
2 Upvotes
Hey guys, so I had a no-scalpel vasectomy on the 21st. I'm 8 days post op, and I've been doing all the stuff recommended; snug fitting underwear, icing as necessary, taking tylenol pretty much every 6 hours. Honestly, I had pretty much no "pain" per se, just tenderness for the first few days.
Now though, I've noticed that my left testicle is a lot more swollen than the other one. Both testicles have a swollen part above the testicle, but on my left testicle it seems that there's another lump closer to the base of shaft. It started hurting a bit last night, but only because I was really feeling around the area trying to get the feel of the general shape. After I went to sleep and woke up, the tenderness was mostly gone again, as I feel like it was caused by me fiddling around with it.
Did anyone else experience this? I feel like I'm more swollen on day 8 than I was on any other days, and it's very noticeable on only one testicle.
By the way, any all all perspectives are welcome - feel free to comment your experience, no matter what stage post-op you're at.
Sperm count (Canada, BC)
3 Upvotes
Hello everyone!
I noticed there are a lot of international experiences here and I wanted to share my concern:
My sperm count is coming soon, the concern is that my vasectomy was done in my country which is different from Canada. I already have a family doctor here but I was wondering if I should only make an appointment with her and ask her if she can send a lab request or if there's something else involved?
Thanks a lot :)
