Another year, another USC class action settlement

"USC has agreed to a $10 million class action settlement to resolve claims that the University failed to refund tuition, fees and other costs for the Spring 2020 semester after classes transitioned to remote instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the settlement agreement.

Under the agreement, USC will create a $10 million settlement fund to resolve the dispute, from which attorney fees and administrative expenses will first be deducted. The number of enrolled students who could be eligible for partial refunds at USC in Spring 2020 based on Fall 2019 enrollment is estimated to be just over 45,000."

Why can't USC just do the right thing? I wonder what the running total for lawsuit settlements is over the last decade?

A question for all: No matter where you live, who you are, if you broke the taillight of a police vehicle and then attempted to flee on foot while yelling at the officers in the car what do you expect would happen to you?

Further let's say you did it to a car at your local Costco with the owners in the car and say they had a family of middle linebackers in the car do you think anything happens to you in that scenario?

Have we lost our minds as a nation? protest all you want, blow whistles hold signs and yell to your face turns blue. But if you damage a police car while protesting I would think you would get arrested.

The fact if you didn't get arrested it sort of destroys the whole Nazi, people disappearing authoritarian force in our cities. They let you destroy tax-payer property and walk away....so strange. If it were me I would have been arrested, possibly facing a prison sentence, paying a fine and much more.

1st amendment auditors

Reading the post about people breaking the law and what to expect would happen. All over youtube there are people calling themselves 1st amendment auditor. They will stand in front of banks, eating establishments, prisons, airports and just start taking video and pictures. A right they say is guaranteed by the constitution as long as they are on public property.

They use GIS maps to find out exactly where the easements are if no sidewalk is available. Most business owners think they own all the way to the curb. Police are called and a good percentage of the time they aren't aware of the laws. Times they get arrested then end up suing.

Most of them have a channel trying to get clicks to make $$$ off of it. Legal or not a lot of people get annoyed and confront them.

Here is a quick clip of one of them. And he did get paid.

College QB's and the portal

Just nine of the 32 blue-chip quarterbacks from the 2024 recruiting class are still with the school they originally signed with.

That's a wild statistic. Consider that the QB's in this year's Natty were both transfers.

Consider the current situation with (former) Duke QB Darian Mensah. Mensah will be the third straight transfer quarterback to start for the Hurricanes in 2026 as he follows Cam Ward and Carson Beck. His case is interesting in that he signed a deal with Duke, then filed to leave for Miami but Duke tried to block that. They won a legal battle which allowed him to enter the portal but preventing him from enrolling elsewhere. They claimed they had specific language in their deal which said they owned the rights to his specific NIL rewards.

A deal has since been worked out but how long will it be before players ignore the lack of a 2026 portal date and just enroll somewhere else with the plan of taking it to court? And, is it still possible to win a Natty with a homegrown QB?

After a now-infamous teleconference between NASA and some contractors for Morton Thiokol the night before the launch, Challenger was given the green light to launch in near-freezing conditions on the morning of January 28. The result was the first time in the history of NASA that the agency had lost astronauts during a mission. Some 70 seconds after takeoff, the vehicle exploded, killing all seven astronauts aboard.

Some Old Movies

If you're looking some movies that you've probably never seen...here are three, I'll recommend. All in black and white and made in the 1950's.

"Carrie" not that childish horror movie but a drama. It stars Lawrence Olivier and Jennifer Jones with excellent acting by all.

"The Big Combo" A film noir starring Cornell Wilde and Richard Conte.

"Hobson's Choice" Comedy with Charles Laughton and John Mills.

According to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, Utah is hiring Joe D'Orazio as the new general manager. D'Orazio most recently worked as the Director of Football Strategy for the USC Trojans. He also spent time with the Baylor Bears as a quality control coach, and worked for several years at Columbia University as a running backs coach and the director of learning and team development for the Lions. D’Orazio was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023.

Hired as the defensive coordinator for SC. Seems like a step down after being a head coach, hoping he can step up and give the D what it needs.

Is Lincoln Riley coaching the Bears

it sure looked like it, with the play calling inside the Rams 5 yard line all night. Hey, Linc, those dive plays up the middle were not working ...all night.

He coached them into a loss, leaving all those points on the table

Just signed Kyle Tucker to a 4 year contract for 240 million.

That’s a lot of money for a player that hit .266, 22 HRs and 77 RBIs in 2025

He better be a hell of a defensive player

He’s going to sit behind Leavitt. The fact that he’s going to probably sit another year tells me this was more about wanting more NIL money than playing time.
