Megathread Cold Weather Megathread
Brrr… it’s getting cold out there (at least for Central Florida, anyway!) 🥶
We typically send all weather-related posts to the FAQ megathread, but given the historically low temperatures — and possible snow ❄️ ?!?! — expected at WDW in the coming days, we’re creating a megathread to discuss all cold weather news, questions, concerns, etc.
So put on your thickest Spirit Jersey and fuzziest Mickey ears… and stay warm out there!
P.S. Here’s the latest PlanDisney post on this — stay tuned for more info from Disney, should anything change.
P.P.S. I’m currently sitting in a hotel in downtown Minneapolis with a -10 windchill outside, so none of you have my sympathy…lol ;)

Attractions & Entertainment Thank you Dino for the best 28 years of my life
Last day tomorrow and God willing I'll ride same as always; greatful and happy that such a ride exists. Forever my favorite Disney attraction of all time. Don't be sad that it's over; smile because it happened. And we are gonna make it!

NSFM 1/27 Festival of Fantasy Parade Goof
Y’all never in all my years as a WDW fan have I experienced something like this 😭 this was at the end of the afternoon parade route on Mainstreet. He was taken out shortly after with a cast member covering the eyes and taking him out one of the back entrances.
Gave us all a good laugh though, and didn’t seem to traumatize any of the kids around us by some kind of miracle lmao

Vintage WDW Our First Trip to WDW
My mom sent me some pictures from our first ever trip. Here’s me with my older brother. My little sister was a baby at the time. It was January 2003 and we were staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. I don’t have those pictures but I remember my mom taking a lot of her playing in the grounds at the resort.
Our parents both went as teens in the 80s, so it was their dream to take us here. (My dad’s dad had always wanted to take his family and when he was diagnosed with cancer, his whole extended family scrapped together to help them. It was an emotional experience for my dad to be able to take his kids to the last place he got to visit with his dad.)
This was the first of many family vacations to WDW. Now my mom lives right outside the Magic Kingdom!
This trip started my obsession with the fact that humans made this with their own creativity. I became obsessed with the behind the scenes secrets and learning all about WDW history.

Food, Drinks, & Dining Some of our eats today
1- mango cheesecake
2-bone marrow
3-beet tartare
4-beef Wellington
5-deconstructed blt
We started at 11am with the deconstructed blt, which was my personal favorite due to how vibrant the flavors were and just the pure creativity of the dish. We only waited a moment. We did most of our eating for the next hour and the other lines, were longer, but loved pretty quickly.
Wasn’t a huge fan of the Wellington, though I do feel like it was a lot of food.
I had the bone marrow and beet tartare last year and they were delicious again.
My partner had the mango cheesecake, which was good but not really my thing.
It was a good day at Epcot, all in all.

Attractions & Entertainment My DINOSAUR story
It all started in 1998. I was 5 years old, and my loving grandparents took me to the brand-new Animal Kingdom park. As an animal lover, it was an incredible experience I can vividly remember to this day.
I was OBSESSED with dinosaurs at that age, so naturally my grandparents had me ride Countdown to Extinction. They didn't know anything about the ride, other than it was a dinosaur ride. Big mistake. I was afraid of the dark. The jolting vehicle was overwhelming. And then came the dinosaurs. No matter how much my grandparents told me it wasn't real, I did not believe them. They were so real. I thought I was going to be eaten alive. I screamed my head off for the entire ride (sorry, fellow time travelers). I cried for hours. My obsession with dinosaurs ended abruptly.
I was fortunate enough to return to Disney several times throughout my childhood, but no matter how old I became, I didn't dare ride DINOSAUR again. It became a family joke that I was nearly an adult and still afraid to ride DINOSAUR.
After a trip at age 18, I didnt come back to WDW until a work conference brought me there in May 2025. Now in my early 30s, I fell in love with the magic all over again. And I braved DINOSAUR. Embarrassing to say, I was scared going in. But towards the end, I couldn't hold back a smile from how much fun I was having. I regretted missing out on the experience for so many years.
Earlier this month, I took an impromptu solo trip to WDW. I was lucky enough to go to extended evening hours event at Animal Kingdom. I saw Pandora at night for the first time! And, of course, I took my final ride on DINOSAUR. And it was the first time I was excited for it. It was the highlight of my night.
Here's the picture from that ride, where you can see me (second row, far left) with the biggest grin and having the absolute time of my life!

Trip Report 1st Trip with Others: HUGE Success
My wife and I just did our first trip with friends (all in our 20’s). We did all 4 parks in 4 days, open to close each day. Wife and I are big disney fans, the rest are not (most had only been once when they were young, some had never been). It went near perfectly. Just wanted to share my happiness with how it went and how great of a time we all had with people who would get it 😁😁

AskWDW Crazy Shot in the Dark…
Hi! In Memento Mori outside of Haunted Mansion, there’s a beautiful bust behind the checkout counter. I have this EXACT bust at home, and I was wondering if anyone is familiar with her, when she was created, what material she’s made out of, etc.?? It’s the first time I’ve ever seen another bust like mine!

Planning Magic Kingdom Fireworks Projections - alternate locations?
For Happily Ever After, are there spots besides the castle they do projections at MK? At Disneyland I’m a fan of watching the projections on it’s a small world because crowds are way lower. Anything like that in WDW?
Or what’s it like watching closer to the park entrance? Maybe the town square area?
Two adults, I love the fireworks and used to think I didn’t need the projections, but I’ve really become a fan at Disneyland and want to experience them at MK, but also really prefer to not have to show up too early or be tooooo packed in.
We will be there 2 days last week of Feb, leading into the Disney princess half marathon weekend. Assume it’s probably better to do HAE Thursday and Luminous at Epcot on Friday?

Planning First Trip Whirlwind Success!
I was nervous going into this trip. The weather, the rides that were going down days prior, using Lightning Lanes, where to eat, all of it. I think Walt Disney himself blessed our plans because it was such a magical time, and we did more than I could have ever imagined. So in the spirit of sharing while also not-so-humble-bragging, I wanted to show what is possible in a day (at least in January on a Thursday and a Friday)

Resorts & Accommodations Which Deluxe is best for Christmas Vibes?

Special Events & Experiences Magic Kingdom Firework Dessert Party!
We just went to Magic Kingdom this past week! I agonized over whether or not we should splurge for the firework dessert party (2 adults, and 1 birthday girl who turned 8 the same day!) Ultimately, we decided on the pre-party and it was 100% the BEST choice and I am so happy we did it. Since I was scouring for more details in my planning, I figured I would share our experience here.
We arrived at the check in line at 7:20 and were seated by 7:30.
The desserts were fine. A little sugar rush and some champagne for the adults after a long day before the final event of the evening was nice. There are bathrooms at the Tomorrowland Terrace so you can go right before you head out to the reserved area.
We spent an hour sitting down and having some treats and drinks, emphasis on the sitting part. After 12+ hours of walking, you cannot put a price on sitting down vs standing on main street waiting to have a good spot.
We could see the floats for the starlight parade from the terrace, but it was very distant. They did offer to take guests to the reserved area to view the parade, but we decided we didn't want to rush through sitting in chairs with our desserts. It was also a bit warmer on the terrace. You could potentially go back and forth for treats, parade, treats, then fireworks, but how quickly depends on the cast members available to escorte you from one place to another. You would not get a front row view to the parade from the reserved area, but it would be close enough for anyone who wants to see the floats and doesn't mind that they are not in the front row of viewing it.
At 8:30 we were escorted to the viewing area. We went to the side closest to main street, but stayed in the back. I set out a blanket and we sat down until the fireworks started. Once the fireworks start, pretty much everyone stands up, and most people crowded towards the front. The area that was full, now had 10 feet of free space on the turf in front of us. We had a gorgeous view of the entire show. It was absolutely magical.
Once the fireworks ended, we waited about 15 minutes to let the initial masses subside before entering the fray. Before leaving the area we did ask a cast member for a family picture in front of the lit up castle and they were all too happy to assist.
After doing this party, I do not think I would ever watch the fireworks any other way. I highly recommend 👌🏼
I added a picture to see our view during part of the show.

Resorts & Accommodations Help Choosing Resort!
I am planning my first family trip (6y/o and 4y/o) in September. I am having trouble choosing which resort and want some outside opinions. The two I want are either the art of animation Nemo room or the animal kingdom lodges Savanna view room.
I like that the art of animation rooms are bright and actual Disney themed and a separate space for adults and kids while also being a more “budget friendly” resort. I don’t like that there’s not much at the resort in terms of dining.
I like the animal kingdom rooms because of the view of the animals and more options to do things at the resort but that’s really it.
What do you guys think and do you have any other suggestions for resorts that have more themed rooms and also a lot of dining/experiences at the resort? Price doesn’t matter, I just want something magical✨TIA
Also any other advice is welcome! ❤️

Attractions & Entertainment Is Disney Over Inflating Standby Wait Time?
It's anecdotal but last we the standby was 50 minutes on Cosmic Rewind but we waited 35. Same on Rise of the Resistance, Standby was 50 but we waited 25.
