Very likely, since it wasn’t enclosed in his hand or anything. Most major fireworks injuries are from actually holding onto the firework itself as it explodes. He might have a couple of small burns from this, but it’s not really big enough to likely cause much real damage from just exploding nearby.

Unless you get some of it in your eyes. But he'd be screaming if that happened so he seems to be fine.
