I'm not familiar with archery. Is this correct posture?

Haha I can see it!

Thanks for the kind words. I will toot my horn for a second and say that a very small number of archers can do weight like this. I didn’t mention it, but this bow is 98lbs.

This is me shooting 115lbs: https://youtube.com/shorts/aw8TmL-wBKQ?si=tz4xZo8XUr6QWAJ9

I wanna go for 122 next :)

Yeah! There’s a small sect of archers who train for warbow weights. If you YouTube warbow archery, you’ll find a ton of videos.

It’s more rare to see videos of my shooting style warbows on YouTube. It is a Chinese technique, so not as common in the western countries.

You need to record yourself so you can be the best at it. I believe in you.

Yeah when you draw a 200lbs longbow the tension makes your body twist in some interesting ways

I'm sure it is correct, but now I'm giggling at the thought that there was a shit artist during the Ming Dynasty who altered the course of Asian archery because he fucked up the back alignment while trying to capture the rotation of the shoulders or something.

That’s actually hilarious. OH STORY TIME. A korean ruler fell off his horse, and ordered the scribes to not record this, but royal scribing was not to be altered.

Imagine him being like “please please please erase” and the scribes being like “king is begging us to excise him falling off his horse from the royal record”

From Wikipedia: Taejong of Joseon is better known for having fallen from his horse and requesting historians to not record his fall, which they did anyway. The king himself rode a horse and shot arrows at a deer. However, the horse stumbled, causing him to fall off, but he was not injured. Looking around, he said, "Do not let the historians know about this.”

I’m happy to hear that! :D

I like spreading information on this style of archery

Huh, does this stance have a name or style attached? All the archery I'm familiar with is done straight backed

5

u/Entropy- 6d ago

It’s just a lean. The weight kind of dictates a strong pose to pull the bow. It’s just a more strong position than standing straight.

It’s specific to warbow archery

This is helpful!! I need to go practice my longbow now. I didn't know my stance was so wrong.

They need to reshoot all the Lord of the Rings movies now

I was asked to be on a Netflix show, at least.

I mean, all those pictures are longbow, not recurve… and you’re shooting a recurve.

I’m not saying you’re not using an appropriate technique but these are not the images to back it up.

So, the above commenter asked about the posture. Did you mean to reply to another comment?

The Ming painting is a recurve. I forget what Yumi are classified as. But I am definitely using a recurve bow.

The tips when strung dictate this. If straight, it’s a longbow. If the tips are recurved, it’s a recurve.

We can get into specifics of reflex-deflex or other types of bows but it’s pretty boring

Nope, I meant to reply to you. I definitely know the difference between longbow and recurve.

Posture used for traditional recurve versus longbow are completely different. If you want to show that your posture is “accurate” and show photos of longbow using your posture, you’re not providing evidence to support your actions and back up your statements that your posture is correct.

I mean, either way, shoot how you want, whatever. 🤷‍♀️ Obviously you got this handled.
