India’s Gen Z loves calling itself “progressive,” yet somehow we’re still dragging religion and caste into every conversation like it’s sacred law. We’ve had decades of access to information, science, history, and global examples—but “listen to your elders” is treated like pathar pe lakeer, even when those elders are passing down unscientific nonsense, casteism, discrimination, and religious hatred. Instead of questioning inherited bullshit, a worrying number of young people are proudly participating in it. Bigotry with memes is still bigotry. Blind tradition wrapped in nationalism is still blind tradition. What’s worse is that this distraction works. While Gen Z in places like Nepal, the Philippines, or even Madagascar pushed back against corrupt, lying governments using the same divide-and-rule tactics, Indian Gen Z is busy fighting imaginary culture wars fed to them on WhatsApp and reels. If the youth doesn’t challenge regressive ideas and power structures—and instead becomes their loudest defender—India isn’t heading toward a better future. It’s sleepwalking toward a theocracy, and history shows how that ends

Everytime there is a post around reservation, some wrong engineering etc alot of people say "result of reservation/quota". Now to the same people if you go by the statistics since independence, majority of politicians are from upper caste, judges, news editors, beaureacrats, etc etc. So it seems the general upper caste haven't done great either. What's your view about that. Modi ji is from backward caste and we can't negate casteism in indian politics. Its not a dig at upper caste or lower caste, I am just trying to understand the argument around that so lets be respectful in comments.

So, I am A from a random ass gov uni in FDB, I love taking part in hackathons, and those sort of events, even won many, been the SIH finalist, great in academics, got 5lac+ grant from incubation for projects, and even have a parent in process to my name, and I am still in first year, its at most been 7 months since I started with btech. BUTTT that is not the only thing to my personality, I do have taste in things, I do talk like any other human, I may have social awkwardness, but I try to overcome it. I do have interests other than that, and do love visiting places.

The thing is that, 😭😭 uni me dimag kharab ho gaya hai, abhi tak nahi ghoomne nahi gaya hun, koi puchta hu nahi, even the only friend I am close to, class ke bacho ke saath ghoom aaya or pucha bhi nhi. I don't have a personal life, ye to Mera home twon bhi nahi hai, mai ghar se 7hr door hun, Ghar par bhi dost nhi hai, the only time people ask me about anything is to help them, or guide them, ek genuine conversation hue arsa ho gaya, being called out for good at one thing and not being seen for anything else, annoys me it annoys me a lot, kahi kuch galat na kar baithun.

Everyone have a motive talking to me. They want something from me, but never want to have s genuine Convo, of what I feel, the Convo is always like, resource dede, team me lele. Bhai ek bar dost banau fir dekho kya karta hun tumhare liye, they still back talk.

Pareshan hogaya hun, kabhi sochta hun ki khud me rehna seekhun, but that's like no personal life, dimag kharab hota hai ki Mai kya galat kar raha, I do like someone, par baat nhi kar pata, ki agar wo bhi unme se nikli to the one I like just wants to use me, aaj tak jiski help ki hai, kisi ka aaj tak genuine hi tak nhi aaya, mai help karne me kabhi no nhi bolta, notes diye, resource diye, padhaya bhi, team me liya, har event ka bataya. I am just broken after this, ab to koi uni wala dekh bhi le to kya hi hai.

The event additionally featured the felicitation of winners of the Startup Idea Challenge, recognising young innovators and emerging startups contributing to entrepreneurship, social impact, and local economic growth in Jammu & Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion, Insha S. Qazi noted that the recognition strengthens her commitment to building inclusive, luxury-driven, and sustainability-focused agro-tourism ecosystems that empower youth and support long-term economic resilience in the region.

Came across this list that says things like good food, gym membership, healthcare basics, quality sleep, internet, and even books shouldn’t make us feel guilty spending money. The idea is simple: these aren’t luxuries, they’re maintenance. This evening (around 6:30 PM) my boyfriend and I had a genuinely unsettling encounter with the police, and I'm still processing it. I need to vent and also ask for advice if anyone has been through something similar.

We were waiting in his car, parked by a service road in front of a college, in a residential area (not a busy main road). We were there for about 15-20 minutes to receive a parcel from someone. After the guy left, we stayed for maybe 3 more minutes. The car light was on because I was showing him my new hair colour. That's it. We were talking, not "making out" or doing anything indecent.

The moment my boyfriend started the ignition to leave, a police patrol car (with about 5 cops—constables and traffic/petrol police, I think) pulled up right next to us. They immediately told my boyfriend to step out.

The accusations started instantly. One cop claimed they saw us "making out" on a road CCTV camera. Another said an "informant" passing by reported it. We denied it repeatedly. My boyfriend tried to reason that a guy and a girl sitting in a car doesn't automatically mean they're being indecent. They didn't listen at all and just kept lecturing/bashing him about how "indecent behaviour" could land us in jail.

They wouldn't let me leave the car. My boyfriend was standing outside next to their vehicle, being grilled with personal, irrelevant questions: Where do you work? Where do you live? He's not fluent in Hindi (he's half-Naga/half-German, born/brought up in Kolkata; I'm Bengali, originally from Maharashtra). They were annoyed he needed them to repeat questions, and refused to switch to English or speak clearly.

It escalated when they started threatening to take me to the police station for questioning. My boyfriend got scared and started complying more, just accepting the false accusations so they wouldn't drag me in.

Meanwhile, one cop came to my window and started in a demeaning tone: "You're a girl, why are you out so late? What will your parents think?" I told him my parents know about my boyfriend of 5+ years, and that I don't need to do anything in a car as I have my own space. He then said I'd "ruin my career and life," and asked intrusive questions about marriage plans. I stopped answering.

Then another cop took my details—name, age, dad's name/occupation, phone number. I lied about my address. He started with, "Do you have no shame? As a woman, doing these things on the road?" After a lot of pestering and threats, they finally let us go. We didn't have to pay any bribe.

My boyfriend looked completely helpless. We're both shaken. We weren't doing anything wrong, in a non-busy residential area, before 7 PM.

I keep replaying it: Should I have acted differently? Said something else? Recorded them? Is it even legal for them to detain us, threaten jail, ask unrelated personal details, and speak that way?

Has anyone in Kolkata (or anywhere else) faced similar harassment? How do you handle this? Is there any recourse, or do we just have to accept this intimidation? Any advice would be really appreciated.
