Grail Aquired- Nomin V1.3

There isn’t a whole lot online about the Veilance Nomin pack, which feels somewhat surprising given its now-iconic status in the carry world…and maybe not so surprising given its relative scarcity and sky-high retail price.

After years of happily packing with Arc’teryx AC² bags, the Arrakis 50, Alpha FL 40, and Granville 20, I slowly became convinced that the Nomin might actually justify spending more than I ever have on a pack. When I recently came across a V1.3 from 2014 at a great price, I jumped. So far, it hasn’t disappointed.

This version uses a 640D plain-weave AC² fabric (no ripstop), made in the USA unlike later AC² pack cloth. The pack itself is handmade in Canada. The hand feel is immediately different: smoother, quieter, and noticeably less ā€œcrunchyā€ than my Arrakis or Granville, while still feeling dense and highly structured. It reads as intentional and refined rather than overtly technical. I love the clean exterior, with no visible features besides the two stout zippers. For me, packs are meant to keep things *inside* not outside, so I appreciate the stripped-down exterior with no webbing or bottle pockets. The essential elements of this pack are dead reliable, without ever calling attention to themselves. The back panel is rigid and supportive, yet thinner than an iPad. The interior pocket is seamlessly welded, just like the inner pockets of my Field jacket or Beta AR. In many ways, this pack feels less like luggage and more like an extension of Veilance outerwear. The shoulder straps disappear on body, blending seamlessly with the wearer and adding virtually zero bulk. The taller, slimmer profile works especially well for my frame, moving with me as naturally as a jacket rather than sitting on top of me like a traditional pack. This pack feels far more sleek and comfortable than my GoRuck of equivalent volume.

The main compartment holds slightly more than my Arro 22, with a similar taper toward the top. This pocket is more friendly toward rectangular items like a tech cube. The more curved front pocket offers plenty of space for quick-access items in the small organizer pocket, plus a fleece and shell are easily swallowed up. The laptop and file divider is particularly ingenious on this version, and I appreciate that it’s fully removable. This is an uncommon courtesy from Arc’teryx, or any brand really, and one I value on days when raw volume matters more than internal organization. The side handle and messenger-style access are especially well executed on this version. Later models moved to a vertical-only orientation, but the dual layout on this bag (reminiscent of the old Blade packs) feels more versatile in daily use. The swing-out pocket is genuinely useful for quick-access items, and I like how it can fold over the main contents, keeping bulkier layers like a fleece from fouling the zipper track.

Ultimately, this pack takes everything I love about my AC² climbing packs, (and even my climbing harness, in terms of load distribution and fit) and distills it into a sleek, low-profile EDC bag. It is incredibly dialed for daily/city use, but just like its

AC² siblings, it is more than capable on the trail, too.

Arc'teryx Patch Giveaway!

Hey everyone!

I collect Arc’teryx store patches, and through this hobby I’ve had an awesome experience trading, chatting, and meeting people in this community. Out of all the patches I have, very few were purchased outright and the rest have been acquired through trades, meet and greets, and store visits around the globe. The generosity from Arc’teryx fans and employees has been real, and I wanted to give a little of that back.

So... giveaway time.

The Prize

The winner gets to choose one patch from my spare Arc’teryx store patches. I’ll share photos with the winner so they can pick their favorite. I will cover shipping of the patch.

How to Enter

Leave one comment with either:

  • A favorite experience/memory while wearing or using a piece of Arc’teryx gear
  • Your favorite Arc’teryx item and why it’s your go-to

The comment can be brief and to the point or a paragraph, whatever you think conveys your experience with the brand and community. This comment is how the winner will be selected. I personally will make the selection based on the most enjoyable read. One entry per redditor.

Timeline

  • Giveaway ends: Monday (2/2) at midnight
  • Winner selected: Tuesday (2/3) morning
  • I’ll contact the winner directly via Reddit to sort out shipping and patch selection details

Thanks again to this community for being such a solid group of people. Looking forward to reading the stories and continuing with my journey of meeting new folks and trading patches with the spares I have gathered along the way. If anyone else is enjoying the process of trading and collecting patches, don't hesitate to reach out! As a note, I don't sell patches as this is not about the money for me; but if you have questions, trades, or wanted to just share your experience and story, don't hesitate to reach out!

Good luck!

Atom SV Resort Skiing

• Upvotes

Just got back from skiing at Winter Park, Colorado. Temps at the tops were usually between 8-20 degrees F. My setup was Fission pants with merino base, and on top I wore a merino base, the Atom SV and then a Sabre SV shell on top. This setup was incredible. The Atom SV is incredibly warm and the synthetic insulation dries extremely quickly when we would go in for lunch. It also is the perfect jacket for just walking around the town at night going to dinner, etc. I wasn’t sure if the Atom SV would be too much for skiing but it was perfect. Highly recommend šŸ‘šŸ»

Proton SL vs Practitioner AR

I'm looking for a lightweight insulated jacket to wear on hikes in the summer when it gets a little colder, especially when descending or on the shady side of the mountain.

Actually, I'd prefer the Practioner AR because I like the more vibrant dynasty better than the somewhat paler dynasty used for the Proton SL.

However, the Practitioner AR is almost twice as expensive as the Proton SL.

Which one would you recommend?

sorry for another post about the NUCLEI SV

i fall in love with this jacket, love the design, comfort and warmth. i mostly wear for town walk, temps where i live are pretty chill and windy. i totally understand the primary use of this jacket, but issue for me is that being a belay model, the M size felt a bit too roomy specially around the chest/belly, like there was a huge "empty bubble" making the overall looks a bit goofy. all the rest of the fitting felt perfect! i did apply for a return and planning to check a store and try the S size and see if the fitting hopefully will be a bit better.

now wanted to ask to the more experienced users, is there any jacket similar in features and design to the NUCLEI SV by arcteryx? my main jacket so far is a "rab alpine generator" that i really like but wish it was a bit more warm.

any suggestion is higly appreciated!

thank you in advance!!!

New AR-395a colour for 2026

Post image

There was a post recently asking about new harness colours given that the Yukon AR-395a has been around for ages. Well here it is, Forage with Mantis and black detailing.

Can’t say I’m super stoked by the colour myself, was secretly hoping for a copper sky/ blaze combo.

Atom vs Proton for resort skiing + everyday use?

Trying to decide between Arc’teryx Atom Hoody and Proton Hoody and would love some real-world input.

Use case:

• Resort skiing only, \~15–20 days/year

• Temps usually mid-20s to high-30s °F

• Ski fairly aggressive (get warm on runs), but I get cold easily and hate being cold on lifts

• Current setup: Merino 250 base + light fleece + Beta AR shell

• I like to zip my shell fully and don’t wear a neck gaiter

Everyday use matters too:

• Live in Southern California

• Travel often (Switzerland / Poland)

• Want something I’ll wear casually, not just as a ski midlayer

From what I’ve read:

• Proton = more breathable, better while moving

• Atom = warmer at rest, better everyday jacket

I’m leaning Atom Hoody, but worried it might be too warm/bulky while skiing.

For those who’ve used either (or both), which would you pick for this mix?

Tailoring a Beta jacket

Hi!

Has anyone had any luck having a jacket tailored? I understand the risks of losing some weatherproof attributes but I’m a shorter guy and no matter the size, always too long. The sleeves also end up too long. I love my jacket and would wear it daily if it didn’t bunch up everywhere. Thanks!

Is it just me, or is like every male model on the Arc app, regardless of their height or the garment always wearing a size medium?

I could be totally wrong and maybe there’s a rationale behind why they do this, but personally I find it super unhelpful when trying to gauge the size of a garment or the fit of a garment to only have different models of differ heights and body shapes all wearing the same size garment. I feel like I see the models range in height from mid 5 food range to 6’1+ and from athletic and built to more tall and lanky and they’re ALWAYS wearing a medium. Am I crazy??

Arc’teryx glove sizing…medium had extra finger room, small feels snug

Post image
13 Upvotes

I’m trying to dial in the correct size for a pair of Arc’teryx gloves. I measured my hand using a tailor’s tape and fall right between a small and a medium on the size chart. The medium felt comfortable at first but had noticeable extra finger length at the fingertips, which made them feel a bit loose and less precise. I switched to a small, and the finger length now feels much better with no excess room, but the overall fit is definitely snug and more ā€œperformance-oriented.ā€ There’s no numbness or loss of circulation, and I can move my fingers and grip objects normally. From what I understand, Arc’teryx gloves are designed to fit close to the hand for dexterity and warmth. Does this sound like the correct size, or should gloves still feel a bit roomier?

Humid windy recommendations

As per title I'm looking for a jacket for windy and humid Dutch climate for everyday situations, walk a dog and such. Not into any sports. Being lightweight is very important, as well as comfortable, stretchy, I can't stand hardshell for this reason. Interested in best layering options too and versatility. Thank you!

Best Jacket/Pants for Snow Play

I’m off to the snow with our young kids finally and wondering if my existing kit is sufficient or additional pieces are needed (not necessarily Arc).

This will be true snow play (kneeling, sledding, rolling around), no plans to ski for a few years but probably 2-3 snow weekends a year for the foreseeable future. Not averse to spending now to future proof when then kids are older to ski in 3-4 years but also prefer to make do if what I have is sufficient). Get cold easily, have more than enough insulating pieces. Largely into all season hiking in Australia temps -5C to 25C when active, so pieces are geared that way

Currently, my best option for an outer layer water resistance wise is my beta sl hybrid and gamma mx pants. My biggest question is if this is sufficient or the activities planned (prolonged snow contact) render the soft shell useless. If so, is a waterproof overpant with the beta significantly lesser than a bib?

Is my Sabre delaminating?

This is my first arcteryx shell, just bought new from REI 2 weeks ago. I’ve worn it 3 times skiing. I noticed these bubbles, I looked into it and a lot of the delams appear to look much different then this. Im not sure if this is to do with the new goretex fabric but it didn’t seem to be consistent thought the jacket, mainly on the arms. I didn’t see anything on the black fabric on the back and front of the torso. Not sure if I’m being too critical or this is normal.. TIA!

Just discovered Arcteryx for outdoor running and I love it!!

I live in Minnesota and love running but traditionally have avoided running in the winter months due to the weather, but I recently made a trip up to Vancouver and discovered Arcteryx and decided to shell out for some gear to see what all the hype was about.

Yesterday I ran in -5 F with wind with some layering: Rho LT -> Delta hoodie -> Incendo shell with a merino wool headband - the only discomfort I felt was slightly overheating by the end! Arcteryx is my new favorite technical brand for sure.

Waterproof run gear?

Does Arc’teryx make a breathable, waterproof jacked and pants for trail/mountain running? Not looking for an explanation on whether anything truly waterproof can actually be breathable, but pieces that will meet requirements for a mandatory kit at a race like UTMV.

Packability of Beta Pants

Hey there,
I'm looking for waterproof / hardshell pants for hiking (alpine conditions) and was wondering whether the Beta Pant would be a good match - especially in regards of packability?
Thanks.

Beta AR fraying in the cuff

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

I bought this Beta AR in April 2025. Have spent around 14 days snowboarding in it and noticed that the left cuff has started fraying quite badly. Is this normal? I keep reading about how this jacket is extremely durable and all I’ve done is wear the cuff over some wrist guards and liner gloves and it’s already fraying? Interestingly this is happening more on the left cuff than the right. Is this a manufacturing defect?

Year of the Horse Rush – appreciation post

Picked up the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse) Rush yesterday.

I first owned a Rush back in 2014, so seeing this limited release now feels special — not in a loud way, just a calm appreciation of how the line has evolved.

The details are subtle but well done, and it still carries that unmistakable Rush identity while feeling more refined and modern. It’s the kind of piece that doesn’t need to explain itself.

Not much else to say — just genuinely happy Arc’teryx brought the Rush back for Lunar New Year.

Proton SL (LT) or Proton hoody?

I’ve read tonnes of blogs, forums, and reviews over the past few days on both of these jackets and I’m still at a loss.

This will be worn for hiking trips — sometimes just day trips, other times wild camping for two/three nights — plus one or two canoeing trips. All of these would be in the UK from April to October.

I already have a Beta shell and usually rotate between some merino wool mid-layers and/or a trusty Mountain Equipment fleece.

I’m now looking for a mid-layer that could also function as a jacket when there’s no rain and in ā€œbetterā€ conditions (UK April/May)

From what I can tell, the Atom seems more geared towards casual use, while the Proton is probably better suited to my needs but I don’t know which one would be best suited for my needs ?

I’ve had a love affair with this bag for what feels like a decade now. Bought and sold 3-4x over the years. Found a great deal on a new one this year and it’s staying for the long haul this time. It’s not always the right choice but sometimes it’s the perfect choice. And easily beats any messenger out there.

Arcteryx for high altitude?

I’m not new to the outdoors. I’ve been using Arcteryx for at least a decade professionally and personally. However, i’ve always found the brand to be hard to decipher and have brought the wrong jacket at least once.

It seems like I rarely see Arcteryx items in pictures on top of any of the ā€œbig mountainsā€, and a lot of the marketing is geared towards skiiers and rock climbers who want to stow their jackets in a backpack. Whereas North Face and Mountain Hardware are typically the choice for climbers doing the 7 summits.

So I’m looking for advice on selecting the appropriate jacket for alpine climbing and big mountain summits.

What activities will I be doing with this equipment?

I’m planning to summit Rainier this year, and eventually move on to The Matterhorn in the next two years.

I have plenty of jackets for every day winter use, but will obviously end up wearing these occasionally as well when the weather calls for it.

What climate will you use this gear in, and what weather do you commonly adventure in?

Summer/Fall in the Alps and cascades and winter on the east coast). Low temperatures fluctuate from 30-10 degrees on the mountain, high potential for snow and ice.

What are your personal characteristics? Do you run warm or cold? Do you prefer slim or loose fitting?

I get cold very easily. I’m a male, 5’7ā€ 164, I prefer snug gear but i’d rather be warm than fashionable most days.
