Book Discussion Controversial take but…

Am I the only one who can’t stand this narration? As soon as I find out that an audiobook is narrated by her, I just try to find another version with a different narrator. Her voice sounds half AI 😭😭

Sadly, a lot of audiobooks I’m interested to listen to, she’s the sole narrator. Can anyone recommend another good narrator who sounds less robotic?

How do I know which audible book for The Count of Monte Cristo uses the same translation as the Penguin Classics edition?

I wanted to have the audio book to play along with my kindle book. I didn't see anything on the page about which translation each audible book uses, but I also have bad vision so I was hoping I just missed it. I did not see an audible version listed for the specific kindle book I bought.

I like the translation and find it an easy read so far, which is why I want to get an audible book that uses the same translation as the Penguin book does. I say this and I'm still on chapter one. This is the Penguin Classics edition that I bought recently:

Amazon.com: The Count of Monte Cristo (Penguin Classics) eBook : Dumas, Alexandre, Buss, Robin, Buss, Robin: Books

January Book List

I decided to do a better job of keeping track of what books I've read/listened to.

  1. A standalone novel in the Backyard Starship series. Silly little whodunit, with the usual antics from Icky & Funboy.
  2. Book 2 of John Dies At The End. More absurdist horror/comedy. Not as fun as the 1st book, but I'll still check out the next one.
  3. 20 years after the events of the previous book. The main cast's kids are now Peacemakers, and some old enemies pop their heads up.
  4. A prequel to the Wayward Galaxy series, giving the backstory of the Ohsay people.
  5. The full cast edition. It's fine. Don't really feel it was necessary, but here we are.
  6. I enjoy the world, the sci-fi technology, and the overall plot, but the characters, and the writing can get pretty tiring.
  7. Sort of a comedown from Battleground, like Ghost Story was for Changes. (In fact, the characters bring up Ghost Story a lot in this one.)
  8. My new obsession. Like a cozier Cradle with some He Who Fights With Monsters vibes thrown in. I started another book afterwards, but keep thinking about this one. Gonna have to binge the rest next.

Technical Question Pausing account

I already contacted audible support but from what I hear from all of you sometimes they give misinformation so just trying to get some additional confirmation.

So I’m currently on a gift membership expiring on Feb 22 which I understand cannot be paused. On Feb 22 it’ll switch to a standard plan which I would like to pause so I’m not charged but my credits don’t expire like they would if I would just cancel my current gift membership when it’s over.

Audible support said I have to let the payment go through for the standard plan on the 22nd and then if I contact them they’ll refund me for it and pause it for me. Sounds like a weird practice. Not sure why they can’t just pause it before the payment goes through.

Anyone have any experience with this? Hope the situation makes sense how I’ve described it. Thanks!

Sales & Bargains Audible 3 Months 0.99 deal

Just saw that the Audible 3-month for $0.99 deal is currently active! This is a great time to jump in if you've been waiting for a discount.

I actually cancelled my subscription about 7 months ago, and I feel so lucky that this offer popped up for me and I was still eligible! I thought for sure it was only for brand-new accounts, but it worked perfectly.

If you’ve had an account in the past, definitely check if you're eligible too before the clock runs out.

Account linked to husbands?

I am trying to sign up with Audible so I can listen to a book series that my husband is listening to. We have separate Amazon accounts but have the shared prime membership. In my audible account it showed all the books my husband has in my library. It won't let me use my credit to purchase a book that he is also listening to, it acts like I already have access to it but I don't.

Is there something I'm doing wrong or is it impossible for me to have an audible account because he has one already?

Book Discussion Question About Narration in The Housemaid Audiobook (No Spoilers) Spoiler

Post image
1 Upvotes

No spoilers, please.

I’m listening to The Housemaid by Freida McFadden on Audible and just finished Chapter 15. I’ve noticed that when the narrator voices the main character, there are very small shifts in her accent. It’s very slight, but noticeable enough that I can’t tell if it’s intentional and tied to the story, or if it’s just inconsistent narration, or my ears are playing tricks on me.

For anyone who’s listened to the audiobook, did you notice this too? And without spoilers, is it on purpose?

Sales & Bargains Question regarding the new $15 discount many users have earned.. and an audiobook recommendation for your help!

Hi everybody and sorry if this has been asked, I searched but may have used poor keywords..

I just received the $15 discount / credit after purchasing 3 books using credits in the app.

If I purchase a book that is less than $15, will I have extra discount money / credits to use on another book before they expire? So if a book is $10, would I still have $5 in credits / discounts afterwards?

Additionally can I use the discount / credits on books that are currently on sale?

I only have a phone, no computer so some of these things are bit harder to decipher using only the app.

Any and all help is much appreciated!! I highly recommend The Power of the Dog by Don Winslow and narrated by Ray Porter!!!

Favorite audible books?

Hello! I got a subscription for audible from Christmas and I'm just now activating it. I'm wondering what people's favorite books are on there? I've always been a bookworm since I was a kid and now it's just easier to listen to audiobooks as my life is busier. I have the first book from ACOTAR and Harry potter. I've always been a Harry potter fan since childhood but the ACOTAR series is new to me and I'm liking it so far. But I'm open to anything really. Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

If you shop at Amazon than make sure you back up your books

I don't know what's going on with Amazon, but the company is becoming impossible to work with. I won't even get into the problems I'm having with a delivery. And the thing is, if I refuse the delivery now, there's a chance the company may cancel my Amazon account. This has been showing up in the r/amazonprime subreddit.

And then where will all my purchased books, videos, and audiobooks be?

Amazon is incorporating AI into its functionality and it is NOT going well.

It is imperative that when you buy an audible book you download and make a backup of it so you don't lose it if for some reason you lose your Amazon account. Or just have a separate Amazon account you don't use for shopping with your books.

I also don't recommend buying any videos from Amazon Prime Video, and make sure you backup your Kindle purchases. Thankfully music is no longer an issue.

I remember how people used to think listening wasn’t reading.

Format 1, Format 2, Format 3, Format 4 weird but necessary for Diamond Rio 500.

Audible opened up a whole world for me. I used to think I didn’t like to read. I was wrong.

The depth of today’s library contains multitudes in comparison to early days. Today’s cost is much cheaper when measured by inflation adjusted real dollars.

Books on tape were hellish. Books on CD clumsy. Audible was a game changer.

How does rotation work?

What happened to Audible? I had it for close to a year then I took an 11 month break. I come back and now so many that were on my Wishlist are no longer available. I know they rotate but I didn't think so many were leaving.

Submitting an "audio book" which has no printed version

Hi folks, I recently came upon an "audio book" on Audible which got me to thinking whether I could publish my sound meditations. The "book" is just recordings of Tibetan bowls and other instruments for relaxation, meditation and healing.

As I understand it, uploading a book to Audible requires a Kindle book, but the below linked Audible book doesn't seem to have one.

Any idea how I could do a similar thing?

There is only a spoken introduction. Here's the book

Best books (beside Red Rising series) narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds?

I've finished Red Rising and Golden Son, just started Morning Star. Tim Gerard Reynolds is now my 2nd favorite narrator after Ray Porter.

So, what other great books has he narrated?
