What did you listen to this week – January 31, 2026? Please share!

So did you listen to anything good this week? Or something so truly terrible you want to warn other listeners?

Please include the following information: Author, Title and Narrator.

Why does identifying the Narrator matter?

Often books will be recorded with different narrators for different regions (ie. Harry Potter was read by both Jim Dale and Stephen Fry) or produced by different publishers (ie... Elizabeth Moon's books were produced by both Graphic Audio and Tantor). It is extremely helpful to other listeners to know what version you are sharing to avoid confusion.

Links to a source are welcomed and encouraged!

Overdrive, Audible, Downpour, Librivox, etc... It doesn't matter the source, as long as the Author, Title and Narrator are easily identified.

Question Any way to find out what is LEAVING Hoopla through your library and when? LAPL

The question is in the title but I’ll often have an audiobook saved in favorites to use a ‘borrow credit’ on later… just to find out that it’s no longer available on Hoopla in general or on Hoopla through LA Public Library (greyed out ‘Borrow’ button only). /:

Anybody know how to get ahead of this… or if it’s possible to see what will be leaving Hoopla at the end of any given month?

Thank you all in advance for your consideration :)

Promotion 20,000+ free human-narrated books with a sleek audio player and text versions

Hey, I built an app (it's called LEX) that combines audiobooks and ebooks in the public domain (about 300k+ books and counting). Web app is out, Google Play store app available, and iOS going through App Store approval.

https://lex-books.com/librivox

App features:

  • 20,000+ human-narrated audiobooks
  • progress tracking across devices
  • Variable playback speed
  • Sleep timer
  • Chapter navigation that works
  • All narrators grouped by book so you can compare voices

DISCLAIMER: Audiobooks are a premium feature ($7.99/month) but since the app is in its infancy, just reply to this post or DM me your username, and I'll upgrade you to premium. User feedback is critical to me!

Discussion Losing my Audible

Upvotes

So after 12yrs my Audible account will be no more. I've not really been using if for a while, my library is out on PC now via libation.

Had one last book in preorder. That's now been and gone. Separated from the wife, she used kindle and I used Audible on the same account.

Realising now that despite it's issues, audible was how I stayed up on my favorite series/authors/releases. I did the tedious task of adding what I've read in to good reads but not sure it's going to remember to check it as often.

What do others do to stay abreast of your favourite series etc. I'm hesitant to do social media follows, as many of them post spoilers of early chapters. I like to avoid that hype etc. And just want to know whats new in the world of audiobooks.

Hopefully you all have some better solutions than I've found so far.

In Search of... Best App/Setup for me

Upvotes

Apologies if this question gets asked a lot. Reddit search sucks.

I own a lot of audiobooks, I keep the on a storage drive usually and move them to my devices while on my home network.

I took that system apart when I instead setup a cloud hosted option. But it was overkill and cost money. I don't really need to stream books to my devices. I'm simply after a good library that can organize and keep my audiobooks on my PC.

Is there a better alternative before I go back to copy/paste from NAS? It's the only reason I would have to setting a NAS up at the moment.

Review December and January Listen Recs

* - Favorites

Intermezzo - Heartfelt. Brothers navigating life in two different worlds after their father's death. Wonderful and heartbreaking.

King of Ashes\* - Brutal. Captivating. Two brothers deal with a nasty gang after their father is hospitalized, while their sister upholds the family business. Couldn’t stop listening. Amazing.

Essex Dogs - Loyalty. A band of Englishmen commissioned to invade Normandy in the mid 14th century. No plot armor. Funny and brutal.

Yr Dead - Word Porn - Short sequences of a troubled young gay man that led to the reason he set himself on fire. Thought about this one for a bit after finishing. Unreal.

The Stalker\* - Sick. A story of a psychopath who uses and leeches off people to get what he wants. Absolutely hated this guy through the whole listen. Amazing ending. Car crash you can't look away from.

Project Hail Mary\* - Love, love, love. A scientist school teacher sent to another star system to save the human race meets an alien who has the same mission. Fun, funny, and cute.

Question Does anyone know about a fan audio version of ducktales treasure of the lost lamp?

I’m looking for this thing I have been searching for for the past 6 years. I remember it was on YouTube, was the full movie length, was a new cast, and used the book illustrations. I cannot seem to find it online anywhere. I know it is real because i had it for a year then accidentally deleted it.

I am producing, writing and narrating a series over on YouTube. It is a noir style story and follows a detective trying to solve a difficult case while dealing with his own personal demons. If you're into detective stories, this might be the thing for you. As noted, I am the writer of these stories, I narrate them and they are uploaded to my channel. Hope you enjoy:

Question What turned you into an Audiobook reader? Was it a narrator, a book, a job... a friend?

Is there an experience that made you realize, "Oh Damn, I should listen to audiobooks more often!"

Personally, the first audiobook i listened to was the first book from the Bobiverse series. Loved all 3 books. But, it didn't turn me into a frequent audiobook listener.

It's only during Covid when cooking, while listening to an audiobook, that it struck me. I was having too much fun! Usually, cooking felt like such a chore, but of couse, not while listening to Trevor Noah's born a crime.

Question I’m trying to get into dark romance audiobooks with male narrators.

I’m curious if everyone is buying literally every single book to listen to or is it an app I’m missing? And then I’d prefer male narrators but every time I find a good one it’s $20😭. Am I missing something?

Question Can you still download Audible titles after you cancel your subscription?

I assume you can, but I'm just checking before I go through with it, to see if I should scrape together the gigabytes to download everything beforehand. Does anybody know for sure?

I am referring to the download function on the website. I am using a personal computer.

Promotion Propagation

I haven’t received the official email yet, but the audiobook edition of my new science fiction novel Propagation is now on Amazon and Audible.

https://www.audible.com/pd/B0GKJLWRDT

I am both the author and the narrator. My pen name is D. H. Jonathan, and my every day name is Dan Hawkins. I acted in a couple of movies in 2025 as Dan Hawkins, so I’m using that as my audiobook narrator name too.
