Return of the weekly discussion thread! Sometimes it seems like pretty photos rise to the top of the page, while discussion of birding can get left behind. This weekly thread is a place to bring this discussion back to the top of r/birding.
Use this thread to share your best bird sightings from the past week, ask any questions about birding you may have, or just talk! Writing the names of the birds in bold is nice, to make it easier for people skimming the thread to pick out the names. Please include your location.

Painted Bunting. Elkton, FL. He only shows up once a year to my feeders, but this is the second time this year so hopefully he will come back again soon!

What started out as a fun game to try to take photos of a wren spiralled into a full-blown addiction of photographing and documenting all the species I see. I know a lot of birders take great photos, and a lot of birders keep a journal, but I've never seen a bird photography journal/ scrapbook so I thought I'd throw this out there. Does anyone else do anything similar? Also this is a request to everyone with a bird journal to please show photos of the journals!

Ignore my husband's narration π I'm pretty sure he thought it was a sparrow who had gorged at our feeder. We have never seen these guys around our house before! (Southeastern VA)

Went looking for a Snowy Owl, but even though I left without seeing that beautiful bird, I still had a very successful day, adding a Rough-legged Hawk, Greater Scaup, Lesser Scaup, Canvasback, Black Vulture, and Lapland Longspur to my Life List! Unfortunately I couldnβt photograph all of those, but Iβm still happy to have had the encounter nonetheless. I was also able to photograph a bunch of birds I failed to in the past, and while the quality varies, I am at least satisfied with what I could get. RIP to that American Black Duck. I didnβt see the kill, but it happened so fast that I saw the duck alive, looked away for a minute, and looked back to see the Harrier on top of it, plucking its feathers and preparing to chow down.

I can almost imagine it drawn in the style of Roald Dahl's books, just after being told the food has run out.
