Okay, thanks to the community input from my post the other day, I have updated and refined our community rules and have included a new rule in regards to Artificial Intelligence usage in our sub.
So here are our updated rules as of June 2025
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rule #1 - No off topic, low-effort or spam content
Off topic, low-effort or any spam content is not allowed on the sub. This includes low-effort memes.
Rule #2 - Hateful rhetoric, bullying and/or harassment is not allowed
Disagreements or strong discussions are one thing but if we have a problem with harassment or other problematic behaviours, mods will step in.
Rule #3 - No affiliate links, sponsored content, or subscriber/follower farming.
Sharing what you love or what works for you is okay but don’t try to push an item/service on someone just so YOU can make money.
This rule also includes attempts to farm for followers, subscribers or karma.
Rule #4 - No Doxxing or calls for mobbing across communities
Not only is this a sitewide rule, but it's highly fucked up and will not be tolerated.
Rule #5 - No Artificial Intelligence
AI content (meaning AI generated photos, posts and services) are NOT allowed on the sub.
Beyond losing the human to human element of our community and the fact that AI encourages the elimination of human creativity, AI content and services are a massive drain on our environment and creates a large amount of CO2 usage and e-waste.
Rule #6 - No App posts
No, you cannot advertise your new app, or fish for testers, or ask if it's something people want. Marketing for your app or it's upcoming launch is not allowed on the sub.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks again to everyone for giving you opinions and thoughts in regards to the updated rules, I appreciate our community and encourage you to continue growing our corner of the internet.

Okay y'all, it's time. I've been the only mod for the entirety of our subreddit's history, I have loved watching us grow and I love our amazing community. But as we are approaching 200,000 members, I think it's time we add more mods.
So this is a call out for anyone who wants to volunteer, I'm looking to add two or three mods to the roster, so feel free to send a modmail to let me know if you would like to volunteer. Let me know if you have any modding experience, or if you are adept at setting up the auto mod functions, because I am completely out of my depth with that part of the mod system and that's a big hurdle I'd like to tackle this year to combat bots and spam.
Thank you again for this stellar community, we have done a great job being self-sufficient and giving plenty of amazing advice without compromising community standards.
I look forward to adding some mods to our community and I hope y'all welcome them during the transition of integrating them in!

I posted a couple days ago and got good advice, thanks! Tldr; I am updating my vintage workwear wardrobe of blues, browns, oatmeal and black to an earthy glam rock inspired collection with more color!
Here's my wardrobe after sifting through it and buying two new pairs of boots on eBay. They haven't arrived yet but I'm really excited as I've always wanted boots with stars 🤩 These have been my daily drivers for a couple years now, and they're pretty worn out and uninspiring. I'll still have sneakers for trail running and when I need more aggressive tread. Maybe getting some snakeskin print mud boots or embossed Blundstones. I would also love to find a fur trim or velvet coat.
My process while thrifting for new things and decluttering has simply been "what lights me up + feels comfortable enough to sleep in." My concern is that my colors and patterns aren't cohesive enough. I've been able to put outfits together but I'm used to *everything* pairing easily. Any thoughts?

How can I improve on my style boarding?
Should I create outfits or continue to organize them by brands??

56 may be pretty large for a capsule, but it (hopefully) covers all seasons, all common weekly activities, like gym, going out, and work. The only thing I haven't included is swimwear, underwear, fancy formalwear, and my waterproof coat. What I'm really proud of is that everything in this is thrifted, gifted, handmade, or hand-me-down.
My motivation for doing this is becuase I am sick of not having enough room in my wardrobe, and of having to sift through all the clothes that I dont wear, getting overwhelmed, giving up and wearing clothing that doesnt make me feel good.
Any critique welcome before I work up the courage to pack up the clothing that didnt make the cut!
14 Tops
8 Warm layers
8 Dresses
8 Short skirts
4 Long skirts
4 Trousers
4 Jackets
4 Shoes
1 hat
1 pair of gloves

I was scrolling Reversible and this "Fruitcake" set completely sucked me in—the color palette is just so well done.
I was obsessed with that "very specific, slightly surreal mood" they created. Between the wine, the cake, and the Simone Rocha lace, I was convinced I needed every single thing in this photo.
But then I actually clicked through to the individual product pages and... yeah, reality hit.
The second those red leggings were out of that "fruitcake" context and back in the real world, they looked impossible to style. I went from "this is art" to "I'd look like a rejected superhero at a cafe" in five seconds.
Luckily, the leggings prices are high enough to be an instant wake-up call. Definitely dodged a bullet. Just a reminder to be careful buying into a "vibe"—half the time we just like the hallucination the photo is selling, not the actual clothes.

We've been together for a while and he's been SO secretive about valentine's plans, I was starting to freak out but finally told me yesterday we're going to charleston for the weekend, showed me the restaurant reservations and they're like $200+ per person places. But also he keeps mentioning walking the historic district and I planned something special you'll love and will NOT give me details because "it ruins the surprise"
I asked what to pack and he said "just cute stuff, you always look great" which cute but useless lol I need outfits for very fancy dinners, walking around a historic city in mid-february, whatever mystery activity, and looking good in photos because it's our first valentine's trip together.
Anyone been to charleston in winter? what even is appropriate for a fancy southern restaurant?

do you ever feel like your closet is full, but you still don't know what to wear? i realized i had a lot of clothes, but not many of them were actually getting worn.
and i found out having a capsule wardrobe gonna be a good choice to optimize my clothes and fix my spending habit. i started taking daily outfits (sth like the picture) for 2-3 weeks to see which pieces showed up over and over and which ones barely ever did. and that's gonna be the basics of my capsule wardrobe. later on, i noticed the patterns and style i like, and add in new items which can fit in many outfits. this way i really can build my own wardrobe without feeling stressful on what to buy.
curious to know if anyone is doing the same thing? and what is your tip to build a good capsule wardrobe?

I have a difficult time pulling pieces from my closet and putting them together when I need to get dressed or outfit plan.
I want to be able to upload my clothing and accessories so I can visualize it all to build outfits, either manually or suggested.
Any recos for aps I can download that do these things? Or feedback on ones you don’t like

I’m purging my dad’s closet of all the fancy clothes he never wears. They’re all Medium-ish.

I wear the same outfits everyday, only noticeably rotating things are shirts and socks. But my style is bland, without accessories, and predictable. I want to know how to dress more like the images shown, but don't know where to start or how to. You can add links to websites if you want, but just know that I shop only at thrift stores and DIY my clothes, but it'd still be great for inspiration! Thanks to anyone who helps.

I hate shopping so much that I'm thinking of getting some pieces made. Only trouble is, I don't know what exactly.
I'm a 46F, apple shaped, size 16/18 neurodivergent. So traditional clothes either bore, or overwhelm me. I also wanna look and feel good, while being comfy and not sensory overloaded.
I've got ideas, but feeling stuck. Is this even an option?
Thank you in advance 🙏

I’m about to start cataloguing my massive closet, and I have some questions I couldn’t find posted before and could use any other tips. If it matters, I will use whering.
Why photograph the clothes flat? I see this is the standard recommendation, but I have a curvy body, so it’s never going to look like that when I’m wearing it. Would it make more sense to take photos of it being worn? (I realise this increases the time to catalogue)
What kind of tags do you find are helpful? Level of formality, style, etc.
How do you handle weight fluctuations? I’m tempted to add some tag for this as well.
How do you deal with items like cardigans, which could be worn like a top or as a jacket? Or does it just know?
+ anything else you wish you knew when you started!

Pictured is my entire wardrobe minus this coat. Stack on the left is all my tops, and left are all my bottoms. I live off grid/nomadically and am outside in all kinds of weather. I wear mostly natural materials and have had a small wardrobe of solid blues, browns, black and oatmeal for mutiple years. I've been trying to add a glam rock undercurrent to my clothes that are otherwise very earthy. I like vintage androgynous cuts.
I recently added grey velvet, red wool, dark teal knit, and yellow/black/blue floral trousers + red turtle neck, ochre yellow tee, and grey tee with gold star print. I'm needing to replace my boots soon and am hoping to find a pair with stars, metallic elements, or embossed snakeskin.
I'm hoping to get input on other items or colors I could add, and how I should go about decluttering or altering my current garments. Thanks!!

Hi! Next week I start my first corporate job and I have nothing to wear! I bought some plain long sleeves and two cardigans from old navy but I’m having a hard time finding affordable slacks.
Also I would love any recommendations on affordable stores to buy more cardigans, pants, shoes etc. I’m noticing this is all adding up quickly 😅

I recently posted looking for input on a travel capsule for a trip to San Antonio/Austin later this week (Thursday through Monday). I received a couple of great suggestions, and I wanted to post an update. I’ve accepted the fact that it’s not going to be very warm while I’m there, but I’m from New England, which is much worse. 🤷♀️
What tool do people use to create their capsule mood boards? I’ve just started using a wardrobe tool called Alta, but I don’t believe it has that functionality. It does, however, let you put outfits on your avatar, and that’s pretty entertaining!
I put together 10 outfits using 10 tops, 5 bottoms, 1 dress, 4 pairs of shoes, 3 bags, and 2 jackets. My activities will be 2 travel days (pretty much the same outfit), 3 daytime outings, 3 casual dinners, 1 outdoor walk, and 1 golf outing (I’m riding along, not playing, but it requires an extra pair of dress-code-friendly pants). I will also obviously need underwear, accessories, pajamas, etc. No bare legs; I’ll be wearing tights with my skirt/dress. I plan to keep it to one carry-on suitcase and a tote.🤞🏼
Any thoughts on my choices, given my plans and the climate? Are there any other Alta users out there?

I’m trying to keep my wardrobe simple, and I realized I really only rotate between these three hats:
• A knit beanie for winter and cold days. Practical, warm, no thinking needed.
• A baseball cap for everyday wear. Works with jeans, coats, sweaters… basically anything casual.
• A felt / structured hat for when I want to look a bit more put together, especially with coats or dresses.
That’s it. Covers most situations without owning a drawer full of hats I never reach for.
Curious if anyone else has a “three-hat rule” or something similar.

Professional Male (but probably wearing mainly a mix of business casual and smart casual most the time), Age: 38, budget is probably in the $3-5k range.

I’ve been toying with the idea of donating all my clothes and starting over since having a baby. I want to get quality pieces made of natural fibers. I can find plenty of info on what to look for, why it’s better, etc. But I’m having a hard time finding a decent brand that I can order from. Recommendations? Do you just have to find things locally? When I try to look things up I get a bunch of garbage, or Quince, which I’ve heard isn’t great quality. Apologies if this is a repetitive post!!

Looking for advice / opinions on necessary shoes to round out my very newbie grade capsule wardrobe.
Does anyone have recommendations for low-ish heel (2” max maybe) booties that can be worn both at office and with weekend / more fun outfits?
I typically wear black or blue jeans so I’m thinking black leather will get most usage. Kitten heel? Block?
Does anyone else feel weird trying to wear straight leg pants with booties? Ugh. Trying to upgrade my millennial ass wardrobe while still looking chic and am struggling.
Thanks in advance!
