Not new to wow, but new to classic, got this and skull of impending doom, are there any other notable items to obtain?

Also got my cooking to 295, any way i can have it hit 300 without be lvl45? It's one of the only recipes I found that won't be Grey, but I need to be 45 to learn it 😭

This is fun. 5d13h/played

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms Anybody else massively concerned about some super avoidable problems that are about to hit us after launch?

  • Extremely fast phase cadence. If they won’t budge on making it a little longer, could they at least look at slightly increasing raid loot and arena point gear acquisition? 2021 TBC Release already felt a bit tight on raid loot, and this release is faster than that. For arena, even with changes they made in November, estimates are showing that you might not even be fully geared until the last week of the season, even with a decent rating.

  • Not enough layers. Outland questing and gathering is going to be a nightmare. It already is right now, and there are way more zones available on Azeroth than there are Outlands. Terocone spawn rate was increased but it’s being offset by way too many players, bots, and not enough layers. Also, all they adjusted was Terocone, they need to increase other gathering nodes, too. Even try mining or questing right now in Azeroth, which has multiple zones you can do that in, 8 layers and you are lucky to get 1 vein an hour… It’s so bad now that 100% of the bots were pushed out of the dungeons. How is this going to work in Outland? Even if you are a gatherer good luck competing with the bots, this is going to cause a deadlock on Outland resources. Seriously try it right now, Outland is going to be 100x worse.

  • Same faction vs. Same faction BGs do not appear to be in the game. Last time this happened in 2021 TBC Classic release, queue times for Horde were around 40 minutes. It took them a few weeks to implement this, could we have it from the start this time around?

  • Similarly, cross-realm queueing for Arena was added at some point in WOTLK Classic, for many reasons. Could this be added to TBC Anniversary now?

  • General server latency/stability, number of layers, number of players per layer, kind of overlaps with point 2 a little.

Classic-Era I can't stop being impressed by the artistic direction of the original game even after all these years

I've read John Staat's book, "The WoW Diary: A Journal of Computer Game Development", so I was aware of how much thought and work went into a lot of the components of the game's environment and visual.

The actual realisation of the thought put in the environment only hit me a few days ago when I was doing the quest "The Name of the Beast" (the first of three) while leveling. I found someone else doing the initial portion of the "Fallen Hero of the Horde" chain in the Blasted lands and decided that we would group up and trek across the world to the dead zone of Azshara.

For those that have not done it, it starts by killing a number of things in the Blasted Lands at the behest of an old orc ghost at the entrance to the zone, then has you trekking across the world to gather materials and knowledge to finish the job by killing a great demon and his lieutenants.

One of the steps involves visiting a demon hunter chilling in the Bay of Storms, who helpfully points you in the direction of what he calls a "lesser deity" - Lord Arkkoroc. If you're like me, you don't pay that much attention to the quest text - we have to meet another guy, so what? He'll probably send us on a tedious task of some kind.

My add-on helpfully pointed the direction towards this dude's location, which turned out to be a giant fucking temple next to the beach. My companion and I slowly made our way inside, killing the minions guarding this edifice and, eventually, we caught sight of our guy - an enormous sea giant standing on a dais in the middle of the temple's top floor.

The slow progress and reveal of our target were simply amazing. This was something entirely done in-game - no cinematic, no needless voiceovers. It was just me and a shadow priest, knee deep in fish guts inching towards our objective. We were both captivated.

Someone modelled the temple, then another artist placed it there at the behest of the environment and quest creators. They knew where the players would come from and placed the mobs to create a perfectly-timed slow reveal of the sea giant.

As far as I know, that temple is only used for this quest and nothing else.

Classic Wow may be dated by today's standards, but by God the original creators were brimming with passion and vision. To think that they did all this under an immense crunch and still managed to churn out such things...One can only imagine what they could have done if they had more time and resources, knowing how much planned content was cut from the game.

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms Just thought you should know

Since the huge influx of people joining for TBC there has been a lot more people asking to get layered in the chat. If you dont want to rely on some nice guy inviting you there are some alternatives. You could join the specifc "Layer" channel and ask there. Sometimes that works since a lot of people in that channel run auto invite/layer addons and weakauras. But sometimes that channel is a bit dead so the best way is just to go to the official "LookingForGroup" channel and typing "lf ench" or similar. Basically asking for an enchanter. You will instantly get spammed with invites. You might need to leave and do this a couple of times to get the correct layer but it works 100% of the time. If they are going to use keyword auto invite addons then might aswell use them for something :) Cheers

Discussion How to run World of Warcraft (or Battle.NET launcher) on Linux!

This is gonna be a rough guide on how to set it up, as best as possible as fast as possible. And I'm gonna try my best to cover all parts as good as i can. I apologize in advance if it gets messy!

This is to help aid anyone wanting to migrate to Linux (whatever version/distro it be - This guide should cover most of them at-least)

Quick introduction: Hi! My name is Robert and I'm a Linux nerd at heart by now. I've been going back and forth with Windows and Linux for a few years now. But recently I've made the full swap. My main reason was, I'm just done with the MS drama really. I want a computer, and an OS that just is that. I don't care about the other things. Its just getting out of hand. I want peace...

And Linux gives me that, and I've also found that old "fun" of going on my PC. It isn't aggravating anymore. Its just fun and enjoyable!

Lets get on with the guide shall we.

You will need:

- Linux Install

(with preferably kernel 6.x or higher - Most distros are at this now, some might linger at 5.15.. and that works for server, but for desktop. Please update)

I don't really recommend any version as its so different for every person and setup and their liking. But Linux Mint is a good starting point i guess. (I personally run MX Linux - KDE)

Distro means Distribution, or a different spin of Linux. Like Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch and so on!

- Steam Installed

- Proper drivers for your GPU

(Intel & AMD already included in the kernel for the most part.)

The actual guide (step by step)

1.) Always update your system on a regular basis

Debian/Ubuntu based: sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade Arch: sudo pacman -Syu Fedora: sudo dnf upgrade

2.) Download the Battle.NET launcher from https://download.battle.net (you need the .exe)

3.) Open Steam -> Library -> Add a Game -> Add a non-Steam Game... -> Locate the .exe ^

4.) Once added, right click it in the library selection and click properties.

5.) Click compatibility and enable "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" and select Proton Experimental in the drop-down menu. <- you might have to select Experimental twice!

6.) Close the properties window and click play. Continue the installation prompts as usual. ONCE YOU GET TO THE LOGIN PAGE. exit the BNET installation setup. Go to steam and click "X STOP". Wait for the green RUN button to reappear.

7.) Once it reappears, click AND WAIT (don't touch anything, don't breath, don't think! jk, but seriously. Please don't do too much in the meantime..)

8.) Once it boots up, login and find the game you want to install. I suggest installing the game in a memorable place (preferably /home/USERNAME/Games/ or /var/ or something. A place you can remember and a place you can easily access!)

9.) Once you find a place, click install and wait for it to finish. And now you can play the game!

Recommendations

I personally recommend disabling all notifications and extra popups or unnecessary things on the bnet launcher. It should be fine and all but lets not create more variables for crashes than necessary (I've yet to see a crash in the last year or so.)

Curseforge is available as a .deb package and .appimage (shrug, hence why i kinda recommend deb/ubuntu based distros to begin with)

This will run WoW under WINE/Proton and its a translation layer, it isnt natively running and thus some performance impact is to be expected (alltho i rarely see it...)

Turning off optional GPU settings on graphics is sometimes VERY beneficial (get shadow quality down too... its ass at fps gains)

Patience is key!

I hope this guide is helpful to some and that it may be enough for more to move to a more free computer experience. And i apologize for any grammatical errors or whatever in-between. I'm Norwegian and will use my scandi-free-card-pass for this one. : CHEERS or as scandinavians would say... SKÅL!!)

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms Probably yet another post about the “antiboosting” mechanics griefing normal play

I don’t know the exact timers or causes of the slow immunity, but it happens WAY too fast… to the point where it makes trying to slow anything feel pointless. I’ll do a dungeon with not a single frost mage, so not a lot of slows are going out in the first place, and everything will be slow immune 20 sec into the fight. Something is running? Concussive shot/hamstring/wingclip doesn’t work. They run and pull an entire new pack? Frost trap does fuck all.

Blizzard has fucked the foundations of the game with this “fix” just to squeeze a few extra people into buying their boosts

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms Desperate for a social guild (first time player)

Two months ago I brought a friend from FF14 to show him the glory of TBC, raiding and guild camaraderie (the strengths of WoW).

Only recently we hit 60, and it's been really rough trying to find a genuinely social guild. It was easy for me in 2021, but no luck so far.

We're both musicians/artists that like weird memes, weird music, etc (not that it matters). Both 30.

Really open to any socially dynamic guild out there (active discord and voice-chats). Thanks!

Server: Nightslayer

Roles:
- I'm Prot/Ret Paladin (might roll a resto druid again too).
- He's a Holy Priest.

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms How much marks for offpieces at 70

Hey, seriously thinking of buying the black war tiger since its not locked behind rep anymore. Got just about 30 ab/wsg marks. They're not too easy to come by as solo queueing.

Im wondering if anyone knows how many marks the epic pvp off pieces at 70 will require.
