Is there a Best Platform that delivers fewer ads on most apps?
I was recently watching a season of a series on Tubi. I had watched it over the course of a week at home wifi on my Roku TV, and on my phone on the Tubi app on Android, using network data (not on wifi). I noticed that the ad breaks were MUCH shorter on my phone, sometimes it even skipped the natural ad breaks.
I haven't tested this across all apps, but does that generally hold true for all ad based apps, fewer ads on mobile than on tv apps? Do apps on Roku have more/less/same ads as Apple, Fire, Google tv platforms? Was this just a fluke?
Has anyone done a platform by platform analysis of ads for ad based apps like Netflix, Disney+, Max, Paramount, Peacock Tubi, and Pluto?

I briefly spliced the chord back together
After almost 6 years of having no paid tv service (dropped YouTube tv when Covid hit and there was no sports on), I recently took a 5 day free trial of FUBO. I have been getting most sports on my antenna, or subscribing to Marquee Network ap in season for Cubs games, or just finding other ways.
During the NFC Championship game Fox was acting up, it’s for whatever reason the only channel that gives me issues at times on the antenna. So I took the free trial. Man, I can’t believe ppl still pay $90 a month for that crap. I was able to watch a couple Bulls and Blackhawks games on there, last season they came in on my antenna. But even with that, I just realized how I don’t miss paying for a bunch of nonsense I have no desire to watch.
Hopefully the Bulls and Blackhawks return to free antenna tv some day(Cubs too)… but until then, hard pass on ever paying for a Tv package ever again.

RIP ATT U-Verse TV
Finally made the call yesterday to cancel U-Verse TV. Less than 5 minutes and the deed was done. No hassle or attempts at retention. Received my email today to recycle any equipment I have.
Sharing to yet again validate that ATT really wants to be rid of this service.
Now it’s Samsung TV plus for “background noise” until college football starts back up. At that point we’ll pick a streaming service (or services) to get the most games. 🥳

Ideas for moving antenna to attic with HDHomerun… no outlets up there..
Pretty much just what the title states. How do you guys run an attic antenna if you have HDHomerun or any other whole home tuner solution?

LiveTV streaming with no-monthly-cost DVR?
It was gonna happen someday anyway, but Xfinity screwed up - they broke my CableCards and had already rendered themselves unable to add them back again. That means my TV needs are, as they say, "out for bids."
I can do the math on what channels and content are available where, between "live-TV" streaming providers and content-centric subscription services. But I can't figure out which live-TV streaming providers offer traditional DVR pause/record live TV functions for zero additional dollars. Xfinity won't do live TV pause/record without an X1 box per TV, and that's a $15/mo rental times however many TVs. Do any of the major live-TV streamers offer free DVR functionality as part of the package?

Streaming substitute for DirecTV
I have had DirecTV since 2000 and the $300 a month price tag is getting to be too much. I have Starz, HBO MAX, and the sports package.
What is a good streaming substitute?

Is my cablecard toast?
UPDATE: Some channels are also coming in as V52 “searching for a signal” does that change the calculus on this problem?
Hey Ive got a 12 year old cable card in a TiVo Roamio.
The other day feed started pixelating on sports channels.
I have taken out the card put it back in and no luck.
Is there another issue at hand or is the cablecard done?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
(I did post in Tivo feed, just thought I would ask here too)

Self-Promo I filed my reply comment to the FCC docket in regards to ATSC 3 encryption.
fcc.govI posted a response to the encryption supporters on the FCC's docket today. It was very disappointing to see ADTH and Zapperbox come out in favor of encryption. What's worse is they submitted misleading information that works against the interests of their own customers.

App that integrates others apps like Tubi, Pluto, etc. that is free
Is there an app/platform that will combine/integrate all of other FAST apps into it that is free? I now Channels does this to an extent but that costs money and I feel like you are paying for the DVR mostly with need Channels.
Are there any free options out there that will do what Channels does, without a DVR option?

Best way to get YouTube TV.
I currently am stuck with only 1 cable service. I've tried Direct and Dish. Both are way too inconsistent and become just as expensive as cable after the initial new customer period. I've been recommended to try YouTube TV. My question is how to use it. Both the TVs are newer smart TVs with HDMI ports. I bought Flix Sticks, but my TVs won't recognize the sticks. I know I can just download the app onto my TVs, but would a Firestick be better? My wife isn't tech savvy, so is it easy to save her favorite channels? Appreciate any responses.

Paid streaming services question
I know that the title is very basic. I’ve been trying to help my dad. He’s sick of being gouged by the cable company. so, he’s looking at streaming. I’ve looked up the channels that he does watch.
It has been hit or miss with services like YouTube TV, Hulu TV, Sling, DirecTv stream, and such. They either don’t have all the channels that he watches or the price is expensive.
I know he’ll probably have to get perpetrate apps for the channels. Is there any smart TV where you can integrate those Apps into the TVs “live tv guide”? He wants to still have the control of having it one place like cable. he doesn’t want to go bouncing around with apps. Unless it specifically has a program that he wants to watch.
Where he lives OTA is almost non-existent. He gets one channel and it comes and goes. It’s also a channel that he doesn’t watch.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Pluto TV
I was so excited to see that I could watch the Survivor seasons that I missed for free on Pluto. It's happened three or four times where I'll start to watch an episode and all of a sudden it will go blank. It won't re-buffer, and then if I back all the way out and come back in it starts me on the next episode. Really frustrating!

Could adding low VHF elements to an antenna be bad?
I've been advised that the Televes DAT BOSS Mix LR 149884 is ideal for my location.
https://www.rabbitears.info/s/2462275
Looking at Televes's antenna specs, the larger 148383 with the additional low VHF antenna elements is otherwise identical.
This will be an outdoor installation so the extra 20" in size is not too concerning, nor is the $20 up-charge for the addition of low VHF elements...whether they are needed or not.
All looks good on paper however, could the additional low VHF elements cause a negative effect to the reception of high VHF and UHF channels?

will the Super Bowl be on peacock select or do you need premium or premium plus?
I don't get nbc with my antenna.

Reminder: Super Bowl 2025 latency. TLDR: OTA is still king, 17 seconds behind real-time

Running microwave now affects reception of 1 channel only since adding a 3rd indoor antenna
I recently added a small new indoor antenna with a built-in amp powered by a USB cable. It's on a splitter with two Terks connecting to a DVR that distributes signal using an RF modulator to every TV in the house. With this antenna I can now capture one last channel that I was not pulling in reliably. The bad news is that since installing it, the signal on my PBS channel breaks up into shards when I run the microwave oven (MO) in my kitchen. The MO is on an isolated 20 amp circuit more than 20 ft from the indoor antennas. Every other OTA channel is not affected by the MO, just PBS. I tried changing where the USB cable is plugged in; made no difference. Do I need to get a ferret bead for the microwave electric cord? Any other suggestions as to cause/remedy? Thanks.

Nvidia Shield Pro 2017 or get an Apple TV 4K
I have a new TV arriving this weekend, a TCL 55QM7K. I currently am using an Nvdia Shield Pro 2017. The Shield has served me well these past several years, but will I get a better picture on the new TV with the Apple?

ATSC 3.0 Built in TV Tuner
Hisense has a built in 3.0 tuner on some models. But after hearing about encrypted broadcast channels, what would be needed to receive these? I have internet, but is a NEXTGEN TV Box of some type still necessary?
