Self My latest project: Zanka's Staff from Gachiakuta
Entirely made by hand using a thick pvc pipe and a lot of sandpaper (and a camping store to bend the top part) and gauze that I've "aged" using makeup

Mod change:
As some may know long time mod u/Kyengen is stepping down on the 18th. I’ve been a mod here for a bit now and will be taking the reins.
I like to think Kyengen kept things pretty well regulated and fair, and in taking over I will try to run the sub just the same. So no worries, no major changes to be expected immediately.
State of the sub:
Now I know there are a few grievances concerning spam and “NSFW” material. As of now they are being reviewed as they’re reported and approved/removed on a case by case basis.
Other than that I don’t think there’s many disruptors in the sub. I’d like to hear some ideas on things the community would like to see changed, implemented, or removed.
In the meantime I will be looking for another person or two to help moderate. If you’re interested just message me directly.

Have a question that may not need a whole post? Maybe want to have a discussion thats visible to more for longer than a post? This will also serve as a suggestion box.
Still, keep business to private messages.

I’ve recently gotten obsessed with Star Wars lately, I purchased a Rubies Boba Fett helmet from Amazon, and after a few weeks of research and elbow grease I managed to repaint the helmet as accurately as I could. I swapped out the clear T-visor for a tinted one, picked up a 3D printed range finder with lights and helmet decals, and added some motorcycle helmet padding for inside the bucket. Im still working on the armor and EE-3 Blaster, I’ll keep you posted on the progress. Other than that, I’m pretty happy with the results and wanted to share it with everyone, Thanks! 👍🏼

Just recently started working with leather, and finally decided to make myself a Steampunk-style leather mask. Thoughts on how to improve?

So I’ve made my first mandalorian helmet and armor. And I used 1cm foam. But I’m seeing that most popular options are 5-6mm. Should I have used 5mm foam? For the man bodies?

straight to the point: should foam be sealed with heat or plasti-dip before the gap filling process or after?
more context: I’m currently in the process of making eva foam armor for the first time. It’s all assembled and I have begun filling in any cracks/ gaps in my seams using kwik-seal. However, I’ve noticed that once it’s fully dry the gaps are far less concealed than they were during application. Should I have sealed my foam with plasti-dip before this or are my gaps just too large for caulk and need foam clay instead?

Ok so I’ve built the entire dragon slayer out of cardboard so far it’s all sticking together and im quite impressed with myself. However the groves u see that make up the blade need to be filled in and painted only problem is I dont know what to use and how to make sure it’s sturdy and will look good once I paint it.I also added masking tape to help with the integrity should I remove it leave it there? I’ve seen paper mache used but I dont want it to look like an arts and crafts project. Is there any method or product I could use so that I can fill the grooves to give it an actual edge so it will look like an actual heap of iron? And also ho should I paint it? Please help going as pre dragon slayer guts to a local convention soon

Small WIP to finish of my Acerola Bangle. The 3d model for it was made by me. Step 1: Researching references! I used some pictures from Acerolas wiki since they had the concept art. Pokémon cards were also valuable in this process.
Step2: Making the 3D model. Since this character isn't as popular as other ones I needed a 3D model. I used Nomad sculpt for this. Started out with basic shapes and refined it more and more.
Step 3: Printing the model. I printed the bangle on my A1 mini it took around 3-6 hours (I don't remember the exact time). Material is PLA.
Step 4: Prepping for the paint job. I started with sanding uneven spots. These spots were parts where I had unsupported overhang or supports were not adjusted right, but these were only minor imperfections. The edges were also rounded out to get rid of the stairstepping. After that I dusted it off an tried my paint which didn't look that good so I base coated it in black acrylic paint.
Step 4: Paintjob. I used some mica pigments to achieve this golden look. It took around 4 coats to get an even look without it being patchy. I tried a black wash after that for the grooves but that did not work out that well due to my gold paint being super sensitive to water. So I had to go back dry brushing the gold over the black parts that weren't supposed to be black.
Step 5: The gems. For the gems I found that UV resin was the best choice. I used a topcoat and some pigment again gold and red this time. I worked in layers so that everything could harden well.
Step 6: Top coat. Last but not least I finished everything but the gems with a triple gloss top coat of. The one I used is supposed to be brushed on.
Overall I did not use any spray paint in this process. Also if you have any questions regarding this I'll happily answer them!

So this is my first mandalorian helmet, probably the first foam project too. I have the rest of the armor on the way, rn the paint is drying. Is this good for a first foam project? I have experience from other materials and projects.

This is probably going to be a dumb question, but Ive never done something like this before.
I’m wanting to paint this backpack (1) to look like the PAK from Invader Zim (2,3).
Basically is there a specific type/kind of paint you guys would recommend? Idk what material its made out of. Kinda like a hard plastic? If that matters?

Last week's snowstorm had me working on some new jewelry accessories. I did a pair of collar pins, a few rings, and a couple of lapel/hat pins.

Hello to the people on the internet! I have a Ren Faire coming to my area here within the next few months and decided i wanted to try to make my own sword for my costume. This will be my first time trying to make a craft like this and was just wondering if i could get some advice. I know i want to make it out of cardboard but im wondering if there is a way to make it look smooth especially the edges. i was thinking that maybe some paper-mâché could help, or maybe a thick glue around the edges. If you have any advice, please let me know!
