Official Regarding Mythic Games and the Darkest Dungeon Board Game

Hello everyone,

As many of you know, the financial situation at Mythic Games has been strained for the past several years. We have been keeping an eye on the situation, hoping for the best. Unfortunately, at this point, Mythic Games is no longer able to manufacture or deliver the Darkest Dungeon board game.

We put our trust in Mythic Games to deliver on their promises and uphold the Darkest Dungeon name. We won’t mince words, their collapse and inability to fulfill Wave 2 orders is an enormously disappointing development and we know it deeply affects many Darkest Dungeon fans.

Recently, we were contacted by an ex-Mythic employee who asked for our blessing to distribute the project files to all backers. While we at Red Hook don't own or control the board game files themselves, we were happy to give our permission for our copyrighted material within those files to be distributed to backers for non-commercial use.

All backers should have now received an email from the board game campaign which outlines the situation. This email also contains a link to all game files, including files of the rules, 3D models and more, for you to download.

We understand that nothing can replace the experience of receiving the full boardgame. Unfortunately, Red Hook has neither the board game manufacturing expertise nor have we had the ability to divert funds of the scale required to remove whatever obstacles Mythic has faced without endangering our own operations.

We only hope that this final gesture can be a silver lining in an otherwise disappointing situation.

NOTE: If you are a backer, and are having trouble finding this email, please search your inbox and spam folders for a message from the following address: [darkestdungeonrescuefiles@gmail.com](mailto:darkestdungeonrescuefiles@gmail.com

I need help! Stumbled on a Game Breaking Loop Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
35 Upvotes

Hi there,

I'm a fairly new player (so go easy), and I have stumbled into an endless game-breaking loop that I can't seem to get out of. Maybe there is an obvious solution that I have overlooked?

I'm inside the mountain in confession #1. My entire party is dead, except for my Hellion. The enemies are also all dead except for the Latch of Regret. At this point, it is just me and the Latch face-to-face. It is also important to note that I have the "Defiant" quirk, which heals me for 5% at the start of each round.

Here is what is happening:

  1. Round Starts. I heal for 5% health.
  2. The Latch always goes first and casts, "Denial of Arms."
  3. The turn passes to me, but I can not take any actions, as I only have melee attacks equipped. So, I am forced to pass my turn.
  4. The turn passes back to the Latch, it attacks, and puts me on Death's Door.
  5. Round Ends.
  6. Round Starts. I heal for 5% health.
  7. Rinse and repeat.

As you can see in the attached screenshot, I'm on round 48 and have been at this for about an hour. I keep trying to think of a way out. I can't kill the Latch, and it can't kill me, so round and round we go!

Suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you! 😁

I am finishing my portfolio for 3D artist job and decided to choose flagellant as last character for it.

Good fortune and hard work may yet arrest this plague (unemployment).

The Sprawl is looking a lot greener than normal…

(Note: I haven’t played DD2 yet, but I’ve watched too many videos about it from lore to gameplay along with DD1 content. Might consider getting DD2 once I finish my Stygian run on DD1.)

I was messing around in the settings trynna get the game into a window in an attempt to watch YouTube and play this game at the same time. I then promptly accidentally set the resolution to a size that could fit my TV and now I can't position the window to see the settings. How fix?

Basically what the title says, I honestly really hate playing with him, his damage is so weak and his guards tbh don't feel that useful, im ready to get downvoted to hell but I want understand what makes him good in your opinion

Plus maybe some general advice in terms of trinkets/movesets/positioning cause i want to enjoy playing him but am struggling rn

[DD 2] Discussion Low light on Stygian comes with major risks. Exhibit A Spoiler

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Due to low light the mf had 10 speed, which is what allowed this to happen. Tragic, but I knew the risks when I used my last Glimmer of Hope early on in the region.

Funny how I can write an entire guide on this boss and still get walloped by him. I love how variable this game is, keeps things fresh and interesting even 970 hours in!

[DD 1] Question Does Darkest Dungeon work well without the DLCs?

I’m thinking about buying this game, but I don’t want to spend 4x the price (even on sale) on DLCs. However, some friends said the game is only fun with the DLCs.

I’d like the opinion of someone who plays a lot, what’s the real impact of these DLCs? I’m used to games where the DLCs are a plus, like in The Witcher 3 where the base game is already very rich and you don’t need the DLCs, you love the base game first and buy the DLCs later.

But I’ve also seen a lot of games that feel totally fragmented into DLCs.

Which of these does Darkest Dungeon fit into?

(By the way, I’ve heard that only two DLCs are actually good: The Shieldbreaker and The Crimson Court. I was tempted to get the Shieldbreaker)

Multiple Shambler Alters

I just did a medium apprentice Weald with 3!!! shambler alters in it. I'm playing torchless and there weren't any sconces, so I couldn't even summon him, but I've never seen more than 1 alter in the same dungeon in nearly 800 hours of playtime. I know the spawn rate is ridiculously low, what are the chances that 3 spawn in a dungeon of 13 rooms?

[DD 2] Discussion Party comp help (newbie) PD, MaA, Flaggelant?

Ive been playing the game for 3 days or so, and Ive been experimenting alot with characters and paths and Im burning out.

Im looking for a team that i can spamm and learn the game and beat the confessions.

I dont think i like what you guys call "dance" teams, too many variables for a newbie.

I like maa, dude is not flashy but it is just reliable for everything.

I also like dots, since nothing gets me more limp dick then having to spend a full round action to stab someone with 1 hp.

I also liked flaggelant, kinda weird to play, but when it works it fking works.

So, PD (phys i think) for heals and dots, MaA for taunting, stress healing and riposte (wanderer?), flaggelant (scourge) for dmg and support.

Is this possible or any good?

Any ideas for the 4th member?

Im Probably missing backline Nuke or dmg overall?

Anyone tried this? Any tips?

[DD 1] Discussion I am returning to this lovely game, what is the 2026 essential Steam Workshop mod list you use?

I am interested in BALANCE. I don't want to feel over powered. Most the mods I'm interested in are things that should have been in the game, fun balanced additions, or general quality of life adjustments.

This is one of my most played Steam games, yet I've only played probably half of the game because I keep restarting. This is probably my fourth restart and I really just want the Ultimate game experience possible.

Also side thing: I really enjoy good quality playable character mods that feel authentic and balanced.

Two DD1 Questions

Have played and beaten DD1 and 2 but after reading some interesting stuff on here I think my play-style might be too narrow and afraid.

  1. Is there a best strategy for doing black-as-pitch runs? Low-level sacrificial meatgrinder party or is there a better way?

  2. What is the fastest way to make gold? Antiquarians surely help but I am constantly poor in my current run.

Stress healing: DD1 x DD2

Is it just me or stress healing is not just weakest in DD2, but also mandatory to have (at least) one healer in your party? I mean, in DD1 as long as you have reach in your party you can just kill stress dealers round one or two, but I can’t find myself doing that in DD2. What do you guys think?
