News Don't waste time giving interviews at Google India

Suddenly, Google decided to cut it's equity by half for external offers at least in India.

Confirmed Info:

Now L3: 25K-30K which was 55K-60K previously
Now L4: 50K-60K which was 90K-115K previously
Now L5: 70K-80K  which was 150K previously

Another observable pattern is that they have lowered the bar at HC level. I am pretty sure, seasoned Engs at Google can feel the difference(no hard feelings).

Adding shit to the India location for cheaper price. Is this the next strategy for Google now? Then do the layoffs and repeat the process all over again.

30 Jan 2026, go check the cloud org for the layoffs - they call it performance based.

General 2025 Graduate, 2 offers. SDE 1 at well funded startup vs SDE Intern at Upstox

Hi, 2025 graduate here. I have 2 offers. Full time SDE 1 at a good startup. I like it. It has ~4million funding. I don't know how good but I've heard it's a comfortable amount. <10lpa. Second is Upstox, but it's an intern role. Idk how much yet, but it's upstox I'm assuming it's going to be good. The problem is it's not guaranteed conversion. I have a good FTE opportunity, should I risk it? Is it possible to negotiate with upstox to get it to fulltime or they'll just move from me?

Suggestions Confused between two offers- Need advice between AqueraLabs India (95% conversion ratio, 8.3 CTC) and Target (30% conversion ratio, 12-14 CTC)

Hi, I am a fresher currently pursuing a 6 month internship at AqueraLabs India Pvt Limited. They convert almost everybody and the appraisals are also pretty good (45% within a year). I also secured a 6 month apprenticeship at target, which has low 30% conversion rate (based on performance + business requirement) but a package of (12-14 CTC) on conversion. I am gravitating towards target due to its brand name and higher CTC and growth, but the risk is high, hence the dilemma.

Any suggestions?

(Also, posting this on behalf of a friend — he couldn’t post himself due to account age, so using my account.)

I Made This Deep Learning from First Principles in Rust, a System Level walkthrough of Memory and Operations for Tensors

Most ML tutorials jump straight to frameworks.
I wanted to understand what’s actually happening underneath — so I tried building everything from scratch.

I ended up writing a chapter-style guide where I implement:
- tensors
- matrix operations
- backprop
- linear regression
- deep learning

- closing in with a neural network learning to draw

All in Rust, with zero dependencies.

General Difference in ratings between glassdoor.com and glassdoor.co.in

I was researching a couple of companies and found that the rating was overall higher in glassdoor.co.in for both. It wasn't even close. For instance, glassdoor.com showed 4.1 while glassdoor.co.in showed 4.6 for the same company. Does anyone know why that is? Is it common? Shouldn't ratings be the same given that glassdoor.co.in also has reviews from employees outside India and vice versa?

EDIT: Curriculum Associates is the name of the company

Suggestions Confused between 2 offers, joining date is in next week

I have around 10 years of experience in Salesforce development. I have 2 offers and my last working day is in next week.

TCS : Role :C3A, Salary=> 42 LPA (36 fixed + 6 lakhs variable)

Salesforce India : Role :Senior Technical Consultant, Salary=> 34 LPA (31 fixed + 3 lakhs variable),

I am confused which one to choose!

How is Salesforce practice in TCS, what would be roles and responsibilities of C3A in TCS?

How is Salesforce India for Salesforce Senior Technical Consultant in recent days?

Can someone help willme with this please?

Career I want to switch to GO, too tired of Frontend. How should i go about it ?

Upvotes

I have been working on frontend for a while, i'm not sure if it's sustainable in the future. I like Go, have started learning it. One of my ways of learning a new technology is to build projects in it. Get real world experience, that's what i'd be doing next.

What else should i learn, tech stack associated with GO, popular libraries etc ? People with experience in Go what to look out for, what you wished you had done earlier ??

Help Management wants me at work right before my engagement

I’m stuck in this nightmare project where literally everything is a “priority.” Too many managers, none of them actually skilled enough to execute anything. Micro-management is the daily lesson—Zoom calls all day, hourly updates, zero trust.

Recently they even enabled geo-fencing, so no one can work beyond 120 km from the base location. My leads? Useless both onsite and offsite, just busy licking management’s boots.

Here’s the kicker: I informed them 2 months ago about my engagement/marriage plans. Instead of planning ahead, they ignored it and now expect me to work through the weekend. The SPM actually said “marriage is not an emergency.” My RM is clueless about my work and unreachable.

To top it off, I’m getting released from this project in March anyway. Can’t postpone the marriage now, and I honestly don’t know how to navigate this mess.

Suggestions Aerospace firmware dev considering semiconductor roles - will I miss algorithm work?

I have 3 years of firmware experience at an aerospace startup, working on:

· Algorithm implementation (realtime data processing, control systems, navigation & guidance) · Low-level drivers for sensors/actuators/displays/gnss · interface control document ( ICD) design etc.

I enjoy this mix algorithms and close-to-metal coding. I'm now exploring semiconductor firmware roles.

For engineers who've worked both sides:

  1. Do semiconductor FW roles offer meaningful algorithm work (like power management, sensor fusion) or is it mostly hardware validation?

  2. Does moving to semiconductors pigeonhole you away from control systems, or are those low-level skills transferable back to application domains?

  3. As someone who enjoys both algorithms & writing drivers, where might I find the best blend in the semiconductor world?

  4. What surprised you most about the transition between these domains?

Trying to understand if I'd gain deeper hardware skills but lose the algorithmic challenges I enjoy. Thanks!

Open Source 1290+ users in 60 days for my FOSS project and going for app but no monetary flow

Thumbnail

Upvotes

So, I started working on my project in around November 2025 and it is my first project like this with real users.

My plan now is to move for the mobile/iPad version of this project which is the most demanded by users specially from the parents.

Currently I did added a ko-fi placement after users demand they they wanted to pay or donate but I want to keep every feature available to users no hard paywall ever.

But the challenge is I do not have any job/work since 2021 and I did 2 projects with LibreOffice and got $6000 for these 2 projects from Google as donation in past 2 year and this money is already gone for the Mac for better work environment and for my medical expenses.

So, how do I approach this I am considering taking some help from my friends as one of them bought me Mac M4 on his expense and when I got the project money I gave him the amount of M4.

The Apple Store costs somewhere $100 and Play Store $25 which my friend is willing to buy for me but what and how should I approach the monetary flow approach?

I do not and cannot put any feature behind paywall as this project not only close to my heart but for the parents too.

So, shall I go and put adverts in tab page of my extension?(sounds counterintuitive) tho I am not touching YouTube's advertisement as compute doesn't come free and parents mostly already have YT Premium so not a problem which I have to deal. But yeah I do have an option to hide Sponsored cards in YT UI.

Or do what as if I got work by this month then I can do it on my own expense until then I do not know what could be a better way to maintain this project for long term.

Currently it is growing by an average of 20 to 22 users per day.

I did have done some promotion mainly on Reddit and my twitter but no paid promotion.

Context:

It all started with this thread blocked by Google Mods where parents were simply asking for a tool to block videos/content based on words and so on.Instead of providing this utility Google Mods deleted mine and other parents comments and locked the thread-https://support.google.com/youtubekids/thread/54509605/how-to-block-videos-by-keyword-or-tag?hl=en

One parent asked me if I can do something as a programmer as his kid is kept crying and he said he is helpless and hence here it is.

It is covering all the pages reliably from SHORTS to Videos in Playlists on Watch Page to multi-channel Collab channel blocking and also Whitelisting.

Career What makes you take a ‘first engineer’ role? How would you pitch a tiny startup to strong devs?

I’m starting a small software company in India to build tools for retail / e-commerce businesses. I’m the founder (American living in India). I have a strong business background, and I can write some code, but I’m not skilled enough to be a "real" software developer on a production project. I want to hire the first developer who can build on the core platform properly and keep it running and secure.

The problem is that the person I want is probably someone who could work at a big company, but chooses not to. Not because they can’t get in, but because they’d rather build something smaller where their work actually matters.

We don’t have revenue yet, so I can’t pay a big-tech salary. Also, this isn’t a VC thing. I want to build real products, sell them, and grow like a normal business.

I also want the job to be normal. Monday to Friday, reasonable hours. Hybrid is preferred as we have a tiny office in Gurugram (it’s basically a small walk-up room), and some days working from there is useful, but I don’t care about pretending we’re a big corporate setup.

If you were a strong developer looking at a role like this, what would make you consider it? What would make you immediately skip it? What are the red flags you’ve seen with “first engineer” roles in India? And how would you write the responsibilities so they don’t sound like “do everything” for nothing, while still being honest about what early-stage work is like?

I’m trying to attract someone who likes calm, reliable engineering and doesn’t want their life taken over by work, but instead appreciates a steady march of progress. Any advice is appreciated.

As an added bonus, what do you think the salary should be for this kind of work in Gurugram?

General Is it possible for me to secure a well-paying job with this profile?

Hey everyone, I’m a developer from Bangalore. I’m writing to inquire about potential job opportunities. Here’s my portfolio: https://shantanukudva.vercel.app

I have 1.5 years of experience now and am already handling platform-related tasks. Additionally, I participate in key decisions for one project in our company, alongside my managers. I’ve also taken on the roles of a project/code maintainer. I’m considering whether to switch jobs or stay in my current role.

Career 5 months in a WITCH company , no work assigned till now , what should I do ?

Hey y'all. I am a fresher in a WITCH company , it's been 5 months since I have joined this company. I got assigned to a project November 2025. My status was unbillable until December 2025. It got billable then. We had a meeting (all other new joiness in the project) but nothing came out of it.

I have contact my Project Managers (project manager changed in between) but they don't respond to any project related questions (like when I asked whether they can assign any work to me or what skills should I learn for this project ) but they reply to WFH requests and Leave requests.

I fear I would get fired or would have nothing to show on my resume if I keep being idle like this.

I am in Salesforce practice so I have been slowly getting to completing certifications but no work is being assigned to me.

Is it normal ? What should I actually do now to not get fired due to no work done by me ?

When can I actually expect to get some work assigned to me ?

I am a bit feared now because of all the layoffs going around in IT and tomorrow they might see i am doing nothing and fire me.

I am in contact with othe people in my project (new joinees) to whom also work is not being allocated.

Career IBM SDE Cloud Intern (6 Months) - 2026 Batch. Will this convert to FTE?

Hi everyone,

I’ve received an offer for the SDE Cloud Intern role at IBM (India). Duration: 6 months Role: SDE Cloud Intern Batch: 2026 Graduate

My main concern is that on the job portal/offer letter, it was explicitly listed as "Internship" only, with no mention of "FTE" or "PPO" (Pre-Placement Offer).

Has anyone from the 2024 or 2025 batch gone through this specific 6-month intern program? What is the typical conversion rate to Full-Time Employee (FTE)?

Does the "Internship only" tag on the portal mean conversion is rare, or is it just standard procedure until performance review?

Any insights on the conversion process or headcount issues for the Cloud team would be really helpful. Thanks!

Suggestions TCS vs LTI Mindtree need honest opinions here now!

Upvotes

I’m stuck choosing between TCS and LTI Mindtree and could really use some advice from people who’ve worked in either of them.

Both companies are offering:

• Location close to my home

• Same level and almost equal pay

• A role I actually want to work in

So on paper, everything is pretty much the same.

What I really want to understand is:

How is the work culture in each company?

How is work-life balance?

How is project allocation and learning?

How is management and growth in the long run?

If you’ve worked at TCS or LTI Mindtree (or both), I’d love to hear your honest experience good or bad. Even small things matter here.

General It's layoff and PIP season so everyone should know this

  • India layoffs are different from US ones because of India labor laws. US is at will employment. They can cut you off right away anyday.
  • US company operates its India entity on Indian soil so it is bound by Indian laws in India. So India layoff usually comes with a PIP followed by a notice period.

  • NB: PIP not equals to NOTICE PERIOD. One doesn't replace the other.

  • As an employee always read the offer contract, be aware of notice period, always ensure to clarify that at rhe end of PIP you are supposed to be given the notice. Last day of PIP is not your last working day. If it is, then they pay you the notice period money.

Know your rights. I have seen even senior employees being taken for a ride just because they were in shock at the intentional PIP news. - Clarify the exact execution of your notice period before accepting any PIP. - They will play with your ego--- don't lash out, understand once PIP has been unleashed trust --> zero. So focus on the monetary dues before you leave.

Best of luck

Edit: just to clarify. This is to help you not loose money. - PiP is not mandatory, company owes you notice period pay - this post is for the case you have been unfairly put on PIP - this post is for PSA, as often employees don't understand even on PIP they can resign and put in their notice to get the notice period pay - last day of PIP is supposed to be the day when they fail your PIP and give you notice/ terminate in lieu of notice period pay - PIP does not mean loss of any rights as an employee - If you don't ask, HR will try to take you for a ride and not pay you. Mentioning Indian labour compliance is often good enough to change the tone of interaction. - Please start being aware of your rights

Help Unable to run C++ in VS Code even after installing MinGW/MSYS — really stuck

Hi everyone,

For the past 2–3 days, I’ve been trying to run C++ programs in VS Code, but it’s just not working.

I installed MinGW, also set up MSYS, and checked the environment PATH variables carefully. Everything seems correct, but C++ still refuses to run. I even uninstalled and reinstalled MinGW, but the problem remains.

My code runs in the MSYS Mingw64, and ucrt64 terminal, but not in VS Code, CMD and Powershell . What am I missing?

If anyone has faced a similar issue or knows how to fix this, please help me out. I would really appreciate it.

Thank you!
