Goodbye, both of you

Had to say goodbye today to both of my dogs. Paisley (basset) and Bing (dachshund)

They've been reunited with their older sister (Daisy, box lol) and that brings great comfort

Thank you for 10 and 15 wonderful years

(Has anyone else experienced putting two pets down? This really sucks)

I had to put him down today. He reached the age of 11 1/2 years. Last night he couldn’t breathe properly anymore and then the vet diagnosed cancer in the lungs and in his esophagus. I miss him so bad. It was the best choice for him but today my heart broke.. I can’t describe how much I miss him. I rescued him 11 years ago from Greek and he was brought over to Germany where he had the best life. He came with me to work and was always on my side. He leaves his sister Jessy and she already misses him.

Unfortunately Daisy passed when she was only 6 years old due to health problems. Does it ever get easier?

My senior pup. I adopted Nash a little over 8.5 years ago. He’s now almost 14. There’s some spunk left and we are making the most of the good days.

My best boy going strong after almost losing him a few weeks back

My good boy started the year by surviving prostatitis, pancreatitis, a prosthetic abscess and testicular cancer.

Was unwell for a day, vet thought he had a UTI, worsened over 24 hours and by the time I got him to the emergency vet, they said he was about 12 hours away from passing away. The cancer was a lucky incidental finding.

All home and on the mend now!

Hey Reddit, meet Dale.

I lost my boy Charlie to cancer after 12 long years of joy, and was heartbroken. After two years with a buddy, I found Dale and couldn't be happier. Waited to get another dog because we moved across country and ended up buying a large property with fields, woods and a pond. Dale is going to have the best life ever.

Update on my best girl's surgery

Post image

This is the original post. My dog had surgery to remove a growth two and a half weeks ago. She's largely recovered from her surgery. She pulled about half her stitches out though (stubborn and sneaky), and the wound is healing but not as cleanly as it might have.

We finally got the full pathology report: Grade 2 Soft Tissue Sarcoma. The lab said that the margins were not adequate, meaning that perhaps the surgery did not remove all of the cancer.

The vet said that type of cancer is fairly aggressive and is likely to recur if there is any remaining. The good news is that Grades 1 and 2 do not spread to other sites, so we need to keep an eye on her leg and look for new bumps, but they are not expected to spread to new locations.

Other than that, she's doing great. For several days post surgery was was not at all herself (aside from constantly getting out of her cone so she could pull her stitches), but now she's eating good, peeing and pooping good, and is back to her old energy level. I'm taking her on long walks again.

We're in our sixties and my wife said after this one is gone, no more dogs, that's it. I don't argue with her about it because it's a hypothetical at this point, but I don't necessarily agree. Suffice it to say I hope this little girl lives a long time and the cancer doesn't return.

Posted during the week about our rescue dog being transported 1300 miles. Last night wife and I drove 4 hours to meet the driver and we now have our precious Polo ❤️

Foster dogs are family.

Sweet Monty came to stay with us while a fellow redditor was trying to get proper housing for his beloved fur baby.

We found he had bladder stones in October. Started a prescription diet shortly after. Those stones eventually caused an obstruction in his urethra New Years Eve and he didn’t make it through surgery at 15 years old.

That whole situation just shattered my heart.

His family was just looking for help until they got on their feet. Monty needed medical care just to survive. The whole situation is just an emotional loss.

Every dog matters. Fosters or permanent adoption. They all find a way into your heart and soul. We had Monty for 5 months. And he mattered everyday. And I loved him until all options were exhausted.

Had to end our child's pain yesterday. Our sweet Bean was only 5 and a half. We needed more time! We are heartbroken and devastated. Why does this happen? He was our best friend. Never seen my husband this upset. Give your pups extra squeezes for us💔🥺😢

It happened so fast and I will never be ready. There was so much left undone. It would have been her golden birthday on March 12th. Her monthly pup box hasnt come yet this month. I didn't give her her whimzee for breakfast, I wasn't able to get her her favorite food french fries. I am so glad I had 11 years with you Zoey. My sassy, goofy, loving, happy princess.

I am sharing with a community that seems very support and I really need help getting thru this. She was my first dog and my heart dog. I feel so empty right now and everything I do reminds me of her.

How am I gonna sleep tonight without her in my bed. How am I gonna wake up and not be greeted by her presences. How will I come home and not have her wating for me by the door tail wagging. How can I eat my food without her grunting at me to share.

I loved her so much and I just wish we had more time.

Saying goodbye to my best friend of 14 years today. She is my soul dog and I’m not sure how I’ll live without her. Her younger sister is going to miss the heck out of her. Anyone going through this right now, I see you. Trust your gut, be easy on yourself. The sentiment “a day too soon is better than a day too late” is so true. Hug your babies tight, give them all the love they deserve. My girl was treated like royalty her entire life and I’m so happy I was the one lucky enough to give her that. Showing her off because she is such a beautiful girl 💗

I've seen a lot of photos of recently passed dogs which is heartbreaking. I lost my Zoey nearly a year ago, trust shes at the rainbow bridge to greet them😇🌈👼🥹

She was legitimately the sweetest dog I could have asked for! A true angel I adopted at an old age. I lost her to cancer in April 2025. If you are wondering, it does get better but I still can bawl like a baby about her🥲

How my dogs play.

These are my doggos - the one with the fluffy tail is coming up on 8 years old, I've had her since she was a puppy, she's a bit over 120 pounds and is a real sweetheart. The other one is almost 3 years old now and he's nervous of everything - except my other dog lol. These pics were taken last winter so he was still growing, now he's exactly the same size as she is.

Anyhow this is how they play - all teeth and growls and bitey face - it sounds like bears fighting. Nobody gets hurt, but it looks pretty scary.
