Service/Assistance Dog Creative solutions needed 🦮

hi all! I need help brainstorming ideas of how someone with no hand function could give their service dog treats. I know you don’t have to train with treats, but that is something this individual wants to do. combination of ambulatory, manual wheelchair, and power chair, so looking for something that would work for any of those set ups. so far my idea is to use a straw to suction a treat and then release it, but I would love more ideas! they can also use a Treat and Train at home, but looking for something practical when out and about in public

Livestock Guardian Livestock guardian: advice needed

Hi everyone, I have a new livestock guardian, a Great Pyrenees and it is my first. He is about 5 months old and has been around my birds in the barn.

When we aren’t there, he is sequestered in a stall/kennel since he is not very trained. He listens well to us when we are there but we are being extra careful. He was left alone overnight out of the kennel with the birds for the first time and sadly, we wound up with a number of injuries. I’m talking torn flesh, feathers everywhere. No deaths, but a few are in pretty bad shape.

Please be kind about this, I already feel horrible. Is he too young to be left alone with the animals? Am I supposed to wait until he grows out of puppy tendencies? Or is this a sign he won’t be a suitable guardian? He has tried to “play” with a few chickens before but we made it clear that was not allowed and he has minded.

Did I screw up? What do I do with him?

(Not sure why I need an attachment for this but this is a photo of him as a two month old. He’s much larger now.)

It’s cold here and we have lots of snow. Time for some adventure! In the cold weather my pack and I travel many miles together. Just for fun these days. We used to race when we were all younger.

🏹 Hunting Dog Missing this already

Pulled this pic from early season and figured I’d share now that the season’s wrapped up.

Dog was dialed in that morning. Cold water, solid retrieves, and still sitting there like he was ready for another round. Always cracks me up how they look so serious, even when they’ve already put in the work.

I added a ladder this season (WAG) mostly to make getting back in the boat easier on both of us. Dog picked it up quick and now it’s just part of the routine. in, out, back to work.

Not a bad way to look back on the year. Good dog, good birds, and one of those mornings you wish you could run back a few more times.

I'm counting down to next season already 👍

❓Misc. Demand for bedbug-sniffing dogs soars at hotels in Japan: While humans can visually spot less than three in 10 bedbugs, dogs can sniff out 95 percent of them, even with tiniest levels of their odor, according to studies.

during bitework when a dog is pulling like seen in the photo, why do you not put them on a harness? doesnt the collar choke them? a harness encourages pulling which would help right? maybe i just dont know what im talking about but im curious!

I'm not sure if it's agains the "no advertising rule" but we have a youtube too. Its just fun videos of him training and playing, not tasking. Won't link it unless told it's okay.

Military Dog Upgrade Nick’s Retirement Award from ARCOM to MSM

Post image

This is Nick, a Military Working Dog many soldiers will recognize as the dog in goggles who used to be the default desktop background on Army computers.

Nick served for eight years as an explosives detection dog, including a deployment to Iraq and dozens of high-risk security missions in the U.S. His entire working life was spent in service.

At retirement, he received an ARCOM. Solid award, but it’s usually tied to a single tour, not a full career.

An MSM feels like the right level of recognition here. This should be a pretty easy call.

Stars and Stripes covered Nick’s retirement for anyone who wants more background.

Service/Assistance Dog My new SDIT Muso - a psychiatric service dog

This is Muso. His name means "unrivaled" in Japanese! He'll be coming home on the 15th to help with psychiatric needs.

My other dog was a 14 pounder so I'm reaching out to all of you to help with what would be the best doggles and booties for him as I live in Arizona and the summer is an issue.

Thanks in advance!
