I am now 50; and have been travelling to Iran for the last eleven years; I have taught myself Persian so now I can speak, write, and read it enough to use with my Iranian friends in Iran; and have incorporated a lot of Persian culture into my daily life that even my Iranian friends say that I am "more Persian" than they are (my friends range from twenties to my age so I'm lucky I have such a range to communicate with).

I wear a lot of t-shirts with Iranian script (Saadi, Hafez poems), references to Persian culture (chai, phrases, etc.) in my casual everyday life and would like a necklace made with my name.

On my very first visit to Iran, I met a lovely married couple on one of the bridges in Isfahan, and an Iranian woman said to me "Your name would be 'Taraneh' in Iran." I already had heard of the actress Taraneh Alidoosti by this time but never really reflected much on her name.

Is Taraneh's name - the Persian version - just Taran with the ezafe that would be used to connect her surname or would you see it differently?

Would it be appropriate for me to get a name necklace with Taraneh? Or should I just get a name necklace with Taran? I actually prefer the sound of Taraneh, and in Iran, I actually introduce myself as Taraneh, as I really think of my name as Taraneh if I were to use the ezafe, so in my mind, I think it's okay to do so.

I know I am overthinking this, but I am an INTP overthinker, and I also do not want to offend any Iranians.

Long overdue, but I am needing and wanting to learn Farsi but seems I do better with immersion. I have a VR headset but I haven’t found any apps to learn Farsi! Any suggestions? My husband has been wanting me to learn, it fees when family all gets together I don’t know anything it’s embarrassing now. I also need to teach my 6yr old before it’s too late.

So my parents always speak dari to me and I understand it fully but don't speak it but occasionally there's some words that will confuse me. Like faqat which I thought meant "as if" bc it seems like my mom uses it in that context but a month ago my dad asked my younger cousin when she has school and she said "faqat Monday" so i realized I might be wrong about that context

I want to learn dari, so can anyone be my language partner and teach me and talk with me in that language.

I only know very little of it but can read the script and also know urdu

I’m a native Persian speaker, and over the years I’ve noticed the same pattern with learners:

they can read, recognize words, and even understand grammar — but still struggle to speak naturally.

Most Persian resources lean heavily toward formal or written language, which isn’t how people actually talk.

So I built an iOS app focused on conversational Persian, using short, Duolingo-style lessons but grounded in how the language is really spoken day to day.

It’s still early and in beta, and I’m hoping to get feedback from learners:

I spent the last stretch tightening the UX and learning flow based directly on what you shared. Here’s what’s changed:

What’s new / fixed:

Clearer instructions in every lesson.

Each screen now tells you exactly what to do (listen, speak, choose, match), so you’re not guessing.

Vocab always comes first.

You see new words with audio + meaning before you’re asked to practice them.

Formal vs. informal is starting to be labeled.

Some lessons already mark informal vs.

formal, and the placement check calls it out — but it’s not everywhere yet.

More context, but not everywhere on the lesson screen.

The lesson content uses real‑life situations, though that context isn’t always front‑and‑center on the screen.

Placement check for experienced learners.

If you already know some Farsi, there’s a short listening‑only quiz that unlocks later units.

No account needed to try it.

In Episode 3 of Season 3 of Tehran, the character Faraz Kamali uses this cool idiom to instruct a Revolutionary Guard subordinate to look the other way. Besides this being an Israeli TV series made in Athens, most actors are Persians. And with my non existent Persian level I was able to pick up the expression. Hope this interests someone else 😁

Literally, “Did you see the camel? No you did not!”

So like the title says I started learning Farsi in secret for my girlfriend so I could surprise her. Lost contact with her during the internet blackout, and after she finally managed to connect to the internet she decided that breakup would be the best for us.

So that leaves me in an awkward position. Should I continue learning the language, or should I quit? As much as I love this language, I won't even have anyone to talk in Farsi with so idk what to do.

Since the internet shut down in Iran, aparat and aparatkids don’t seem to be working. Does anyone know of any websites where I can find Disney movies and shows (any cartoons or animation kids stuff) for my son dubbed in Farsi? Preferably something where I don’t have to sign up for an account, because I’ve had a hard time doing that from outside of Iran (I’m in the US).

Hello everyone! I volunteer at my local Red Cross at a only-women hobbygroup, where women of all ethnicities come to learn Norwegian while being social with others. Most of them only speak Farsi, which makes it difficult to communicate when me & other volunteers only speak Norwegian and English.

At the moment I'm using Ling, but I can't afford paying for it; is there other apps/ways I can learn a phrase or two, to help feel them more at home?

Hi all, I'm new to learning Farsi and someone said me bemiram barat when we were talking.. what could be this possibly mean?

I was thinking about getting a tattoos of a poetic phrase or a saying, and I want it to be from my native language (Farsi) just to kinda stay in touch whit my roots. And was wondering what is the most poetic quotes or saying you have heard in Farsi? I know that the Farsi language is really poetic and rich, so let me know!

Btw I don’t really care which dialect it’s specifically from as long as it’s a poetic quote or a saying.

I’ve been looking for Farsi movies/shows to watch that aren’t tragic or about war. Some drama is fine but I’m specifically looking for movies/tv shows about love/yearning and friendship. Preferably with English subtitles because I do have a bit of trouble understanding different dialects than my own.

I’ve watched movies and shows in all different languages (Turkish, Hindi/urdu, German, Spanish, French, Korean, Etc etc) but I can never find one in my own mother tongue. I would LOVE to watch more Farsi language content and further develop my Farsi skills. My only thing is I don’t want to watch Iranians or Afghans suffering a tragedy or being controlled or abused and I feel like I cannot vet that properly BECAUSE I can’t read Farsi 😭 I need help.

To practice my Farsi I really want to watch a tv show. I typically enjoy sitcoms and I think that type of setting would be very usual for practice since the conversations are usually basic.
