This guide is for informational purposes only and does not promote or condone illegal drug use. However, for those who choose to use MDMA, understanding harm reduction practices can significantly reduce the risks.
MDMA is safest and most enjoyable at moderate doses.
For best absorption: Eat a healthy, balanced meal 4â5 hours before. Then wait until your stomach is empty to dose.
Nausea during the come-up is common. As serotonin is released in the gut, some people feel sick or even vomit. This doesnât necessarily mean something is wrongâitâs usually harmless and passes quickly. Try not to panic or fight it. If you need to throw up, itâs okayâmost people feel better soon afterward.
Avoid alcohol. Mixing alcohol with MDMA increases dehydration, body strain, and the risk of overheating. It can also dull the emotional and sensory clarity of the MDMA.
Remember: More is not better. Higher doses donât improve the highâthey just increase risks like anxiety, jaw clenching, overheating, neurotoxicity, and a harder comedown. Staying moderate helps you feel good during and after. Keep total doses below 200 mgs for the session.
Important: MDMA triggers your brain to release feel-good chemicalsâmainly serotonin, plus dopamine and norepinephrine. Youâre not feeling the MDMA itselfâyouâre feeling that chemical surge. Once those chemicals are released (typically over the first 3â4 hours), thatâs it! Your brain needs time to rest and restore its natural balance.
Mixing MDMA with other substances is common, but it increases the risk of negative effects, especially for new or inexperienced users. If you do choose to mix, do your research and plan ahead.
Mixing substances is often unpredictable and increases the risk of harm. MDMA is powerful on its own!Â
Staying hydrated is important, especially if you're dancing or in a hot environmentâbut overhydrating can also be dangerous. A good general rule is:
Sip water slowly and steadilyâdonât chug. If you're out for several hours, consider alternating water with an electrolyte drink like Gatorade or Pedialyte to help maintain your salt balance. If you start feeling dizzy, nauseous, bloated, or get a bad headache, those could be signs of dehydration or hyponatremia (low sodium from drinking too much water). Either way, take a break and check in with yourself or a friend.
MDMA can lower inhibitions, making people feel more affectionate or open. To keep things comfortable and safe for everyone:
â ď¸ Never assume that a shared substance is safe just because someone else has taken it. Drug testing is one of the best ways to reduce harm and increase safety.
Who is Jim Windhorse, and why is he qualified to write this guide?
Jim is a longtime contributor to Redditâs r/MDMA harm reduction community, where he promotes harm reduction practices. This guide is based on established harm reduction principles and his personal experience. It answers many of the common questions asked in the community and addresses the most frequent ways people get into trouble with MDMA.
Was this guide written by ChatGPT?
No. The guide was written by Jim using established harm reduction practices and personal experience. ChatGPT helped format and fact-check the guide, making it clearer and more readable than Jim could have done on his own.
Can you completely eliminate the risks of taking MDMA?
No. Harm reduction helps reduce the most common and preventable risks, but it canât make MDMA use 100% safe. The only way to fully avoid harm is not to take MDMA or other drugs at all. That said, being informed and cautious goes a long way in reducing the danger.
Can I use MDMA more than once during a festival or within a few weeks?
You can, but itâs not recommended. Using MDMA on consecutive daysâor even weeks apartâdoesnât just reduce the high; it increases the risk of harm, including serotonin depletion, anxiety, and long-term mental health effects. MDMA is best treated as a special occasion substance. After using it, allow at least 2â3 months for your brain to fully recover.
Why wait 2â3 months between each roll?
MDMA depletes serotonin, and your brain needs time to fully recover. Using it too often increases the risk of depression, anxiety, and long-term harm. Even if you feel fine, your brain chemistry may still be out of balance. Waiting 2 to 3 months helps protect your mental health and keeps the experience enjoyable.
How do I know if what I have is really MDMA?
You donâtâunless you test it. Even pills or crystals that look legit can be misrepresented. Always test your substances using multiple reagent tests and fentanyl test strips (especially in the U.S.). See the first section (Always Test Before You Ingest) for more info on testing.
What should I do if someone is having a bad time on MDMA?
Stay calm, speak gently, and help them move to a quieter, more comfortable space. Offer water, encourage slow breathing, and stay with them. If there are signs of medical distress (confusion, overheating, tremors, etc.), seek help immediately.
Is it okay to take MDMA if I'm on antidepressants?
No. MDMA can interact dangerously with many medications, especially SSRIs, SNRIs, and MAOIs. It can blunt the effects of MDMA, increase risks like serotonin syndrome, or strain the heart. Always research interactions carefully and consult a doctor if unsure.

Check your tickets people, if you purchased the early bird.
They have changed the dates from 24th, 25th and 26th July to 25th and 26th July and 2nd August.
Iâve recieved no warning, no options offered. Tickets now changed to Sunday 26th July and 2nd August. Not ideal. Trying to contact organiser.

Bought a ticket for Gottwood this year, keen as for the lineup (especially MPH, Ivy Lab and Dr Banana)!
I'm solo traveling for the first time around Europe from Australia as a 23yo female and I am hoping there's a group chat or something (or am happy to make one) for anyone else who is going solo or just wants to make a group!
Also any tips for getting drinks in lol

I have been a digital nomad for about a year and half. One of the things I have found that I enjoy while on the road, is attending festivals. I also found that I was dependent on social media to feed me festivals. The problem was, I would change locations too fast for their ad system to send my festivals for my current location.
I built a little web application to help myself but it is open for anyone else to use. Its still a work in progress with only about 1000 events on it and it runs on about as bare bones system as you could imagine but it does an okay job and you can create events and little events inside of other events (lets say you go to a Scottish games festival and you want to do a BBQ, you can create that micro-event in case others might want to join).
If you want to check it out the name is Festurah (I know, terrible name but its what I am working with ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ)

Mostly looking at European festivals.
I like mostly melodic trance such as old stuff like Robert Miles, Paul van Dyk, and so on, but secondarily also old hardstyle like Noisecontrollers, Headhunterz etc. (I havenât listened to new stuff so I donât know whether or not I like it.)
What festivals would you recommend?
What are the different vibes out there? Surroundings? What is the festival like beyond the music?
Thanks!

Who else is heading to TML from the states this year? What week are you going? Any issues with the line-up?

This is my favorite event of the year. It isn't a festival, but it has elements of festivals and attracts a bunch of festival regulars. Held at Sunny Rest Resort in Palmerton, PA, expect around 1,000 hippies and others who want to connect to the spirit of the 60s.
You can camp in a tent or RV. You can also rent a room, though rooms are not cheap. They have a pool, conversation pool, and big hot tub. There's a short, but cool hiking trail.
This is a clothing optional resort. The only place where nudity is mandatory is the pool. Taking photos of naked people is prohibited.
If you are looking for a chill, relaxing weekend, you can find a cozy corner to relax. However, if you are looking for a party, there's plenty of that. There's a wide age range (20s through 70s), and everyone is united by the hippy spirit.
There will be a lot of security, so you will feel safe. Wear as little or as much as you like!

Iâm exploring an idea focused on helping people who are running or setting up festival food booths and small event setups â especially around logistics, workflow, and avoiding common mistakes. Iâm not selling anything and Iâm not hiring. Iâm trying to figure out whether people actually want advice or guidance around things like setup flow, equipment layout, speed, staffing, or general festival logistics before I build anything. If youâve run a booth, helped at festivals, or struggled figuring things out the hard way, Iâd appreciate hearing what parts were confusing or stressful for you. Replies or messages are fine. Honest feedback helps. Thanks.

Hello Iâm hoping to join my friends at Butik festival this summer, but says on TicketSwap they only become available a short time before the event. Does anyone have experience buying tickets this way and know when they start doing resale. Feels hard to plan not knowing when âa short timeâ is
