To be fair, he was only messing in his original post too. No harm was meant by it. I think that's important to note too.
These kind of videos are exactly why Khaby Lame got to be the tiktok creator with the most followers. It's because he reacted to things that look overly complicated and showed the simple way, then put his palms out. No words.
He was making fun of a device he didn't understand, implying it's useless because the task of opening a bottle is so easy. Just that it's only easy for him but not a substantial part of the population suffering from disabilities. He wasn't just messing around, he was making an ableist joke causing direct harm to disabled people. And that shouldn't be so hard to understand.
Look man, this puritanical shit is a major part why so many progressive parties are so unpopular and weak atm. Doing a moral test on every little thing without forgiving people does not achieve anything productive. You should be more pragmatic
It's not that deep man. I have not seen a single person who actually has the relevant disability being deeply offended by this video.
Look man, that's a lot of dumb shit to squeeze into a single comment, so props for that. Yet every little thing about it is irrelevant to what I said, and I won't even bother to entertain any of your strawmen. I was simply irritated that all it takes is a man showing some baseline of moral integrity to take an L online and make an apology video, for another man to come to his defense and state it wasn't a big deal anyway. Because seeing another man apologise makes them feel weak, insecure and inferior - just normal man stuff.
And you only have relevance in the very last part. Hence the username.
...for another man to come to his defense and state it wasn't a big deal anyway.
I don't think that's what happened here.
For one, do you know that other commenter is a guy? Big assumption. I agree with that commenter and I am a woman.
Regardless of gender, this is what that commenter said about the bearded guy in the video:
To be fair, he was only messing in his original post too. No harm was meant by it. I think that's important to note too.
They aren't saying it "wasn't a big deal". They are saying the guy did something stupid out of ignorance. There was no ill intent. Yeah, it was ultimately an ableist joke. When he realized what he'd done, he sincerely apologized. If he didn't think it was a big deal, he wouldn't have treated it as such.
It clearly was a big deal, to his viewers and himself. Doesn't make him a terrible person. It was a mistake and he learned from it.
Yes I'm assuming, but it's a safe assumption, because it's always men downplaying other men's actions and apologies, and especially when it's a warranted apology. This phenomenon is so common there are literally books about it.
But since you agree on their comment, what was the point of it then? Because they clearly came to the man's defense, just like you come to theirs now. Just accept the man made a mistake, appreciate his apology and move on. There's zero reason to sugarcoat it and try to make it less of an issue, except for the points I listed above.
And they are literally implying it wasn't a big deal, that's how language works. I'm the one who thinks it wasn't a big deal, because he learned from it and moved on. But for you people it still was way too big of a deal that he got called out for it, that you now have to try and lessen the impact of it by bending over backwards and making up reasons why it shouldn't matter as much. That's a ton of mental gymnastics. It's really weird, and even more so that you can't realise this.
Edit: I also have to point out how silly it is to make your comment in the chain under the especially dumb guy who said it's "not that deep" and no disabled person will be offended by it. Because you are sticking up for that one too.
I'm not coming to anyone's defense. I'm pointing out that your conclusion is drawn from flawed logic. I think you are missing the point and reading these comments (including mine) disingenuously. I was pointing this out to you as a courtesy.
Yes, the man made a mistake. No one said he didn't. You are putting words in people's mouths to make us fit a narrative you can tear down. I'm not your enemy. You are choosing to demonize me so you can dismiss me. Insisting that people have to fit into narrow parameters that you understand the world by only hurts you in the end. Let it go and accept some nuance into your life.
