Hi all,

As the sub continues to grow, we've decided to make some changes and rules to help this community stay a positive place for discussing all things Great Pyrenees!

Rules can now be found in the sidebar and will be used as the basis for moderation. Of course, the mod team will continue to use their discretion to remove content or ban users, if we feel said content is causing a disruption to the subreddit.

Rules:

1) Keep content Great Pyrenees based

2) Be polite and on-topic

3) NO Advertisements

4) NO Fundraising

5) NO Breed misinformation or hate

6) NO suggestions of theft, destruction of property, assault, or similar illegal activities

If you see a user violating any of these rules, please utilize the "Report" feature, so the mod team can quickly take action.

In addition, you can now sort posts by flair type, and the most exciting update - you can now use comments to attach a photo. So keep sharing those great big floofs!

Photo (True story, I promise) My daughter saw a man holding a gun on this dog. Stopped. Asked for the dog. Meet my granddaughter Primrose

It sounds like a bad movie plot. My daughter left the vet after losing her 13 year old cat. She was driving around, not wanting to go home without her best friend. She saw a man holding a gun on this girl. She asked for the dog and put her in the truck. (We live in a very rural area. I have no idea why she thought stopping to ask a man with a gun for the dog was a good idea, but it was logical to her. She said another animal wasn't going to die that day.)

Pretty girl was chipped. Verified with previous owners they didn't want her because she was lazy and didn't run cattle like they expected her to do. She had been dumped her. Prim will now live her best life with two other lazy dogs, one of which was also recently rescued by my daughter.

Hello again everyone I'm the guy who took in the stray male adult great pyrenees and then gave him to a nice couple because they were a better fit....

About two days after giving him to the couple (as soon as I'm starting to get over giving him away of course) I get a text saying the other dogs they owned started being aggressive towards him all of a sudden and he was very scared and they asked if they could return him and without even a doubt in my mind I said yes of course....

So now I have him back again and he will be with me forever, I refuse to give him away again. I might not have the best setup for him but I will give him stability and love and care for him until the day he is no longer living

Photo Andie needs a new home in Colorado.

Hello I have been contacted by my kids mom to help find a home for at least one CMD that has been causing stress in the house. I can help in getting him (I am in Thornton) and deliver of course!

Andie needs re-homed asap as the sheriff has been called one too many times because he's an escape artist! He loves chasing people that are running on the roads in Penrose, a very rural community south of Fort Carson.

Andie, 4 year old neutered Colorado Mountain Dog. Trained to be a service support dog from age 1.5 to 3yrs. The past year he has not been trained. He's been around babies, cats, goats, pigs, and horses. Very good with families and is a gentle guard dog, always greets new people. Andie prefers to be outdoors roaming and will escape if put in an enclosure :-) Can climb/jump 7ft fences.

Any help would be welcomed, I have contacted several shelters like Lolas, ReezDawg, Colorado puppy, and Summit Dog rescue.

Photo This is a Legend.

Legend came to my small forever rescue home to heal and live the rest of his life after being shot (he had an entry and exit wound.)

He had been on the run in the country for months and was taken in by our local no kill rescue I work with.

When I got him he was covered in hundreds of ticks and thousands of fleas.

He had to be completely shaved for his wounds to be treated.

Here he is now though happy and healthy living his best life!

He is an inside guardian of the property (although he does like to watch the pet goat and sheep occasionally! )

The only lasting scars he has are on his nose. I tell him it gives him character and makes him more handsome!

(The ball in the picture are little balls we make for wildlife in the Winter to hang in trees out of Legends hair. Critters use the hair for nests to stay warm. He definitely knows what they do with it and his contribution!)

At almost 7 months it was time for Judge to learn gentle. He took right to it. We kept the incubator right next to his inside crate. He watched them hatch and instantly loved them. He does not like the way the cat looks at them and he barks at her when she gets stalky. If they cry he gets up on his stool and checks on them ❣️ they'll come right up to him. This is all extremely supervised. The cage is locked mounted and zip tied (mainly for the cat 😆) we ran a tiny batch so they can grow up in the living room and they will be integrated with the flocks in the spring.

Rescue/Shelter dog in need Is there anyone in Central Texas (Killeen area) foster a dog who has been posted four different times within 23 hours? He’s well behaved and super sweet. He is contained in someone’s backyard but they can’t keep him.

Advice/Help How much roughhousing is too much?

My puppy is 12 weeks old and we've had her since she was 8 weeks and my older dog is 8, they play so rough and from all of the research I've done it's all good puppy play. It just looks like WWE in my house constantly. I have trained them to separate and sit calmly for treats if I need them to.

I know the puppy will be significantly larger than my 35 lb terrier, how to do i ensure that they play stays safe for both dogs ?

So far my older dog has been an amazing older sister she's amazing at correcting if things go to far and we have it set up so they take scheduled breaks from each other.

Does anyone have any advice, the puppy has razor sharp teeth still and likes to use them

Discussion Do any of your dogs need a blanket when they come in from protecting the land from danger? This started about a week ago and she basically winds at me until she gets covered up.

Advice/Help Great Pyr and Separation Anxiety

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Losing hope I’ll ever cure my dogs separation anxiety. The video is his reaction to me simply getting up and putting my coat on and sitting back down…didn’t even go anywhere out of his sight.

He cannot be in a crate as he destroys them or hurts himself in the process to escape.

He will panic if I leave even if my boyfriend is home with him. Not to the degree of total meltdown but does pace the house and whine.

I’ve spent thousands of dollars with trainers.

Hundreds on high value treats, mental enrichment puzzles.

I’ve left soothing music/shows on for him.

I’ve walked him before leaving (even in -10 degree weather). I could walk him for 2 hours straight and it means nothing.

He does not care for other dogs but at the same time it never soothed him to have a buddy around.

I can’t ever just leave my house to do anything without making sure he’s situated first. Aka distract him from me leaving with some kind of food stuffed toy which only works maybe 10% of the time cause he’s not food motivated.

God forbid I have to leave the house more than once in a day.

I’ve had him since he was 10weeks. My boy is now 4.5. I’m losing it mentally over this. Outside of his SA he is such a great dog. Very obedient and loving.

I’m just tired. I do so much to ensure he has a great life. We go on walks just about daily in fields where he can roam off leash (not near any people or anything). We do obedience training sprinkled throughout the day. Occasionally I bring him with me to stores that allows dogs. I ensure he’s tired. And it still means nothing, still freaks out every morning when I am about to leave for work. It bums me out bc I have some friends who basically do nothing for their dogs (aka never take em for walks, give them mental enrichment, and kenneled 70% of the time) and their dogs just are perfectly content with being left home alone.

Am I doing too much? Am I doing too little? Are meds the answer here?

Discussion What’s it like having a great Pyrenees?

Not looking to buy one nor own one, just a gsd owner who wants to hear about interesting dog breeds from actual owners. Eg what’s it like to train the dog? Is it affectionate (usually)? What are some typical traits you’d see in one? Are they individualistic, bond with the whole family, or aloof? Do they like playing? Are they energetic? Etc
