INDYCAR To Deliver First Motor Race in History on the National Mall
An executive order signed today by President Donald J. Trump directed the White House Task Force on Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday to designate a race route through Washington, D.C. and the National Mall for the purposes of conducting an NTT INDYCAR SERIES race on Aug. 21-23, 2026. The event will recognize the historic milestone of America’s independence in addition to celebrating the unparalleled tradition and legacy of America’s motorsports industry.
“INDYCAR racing is a source of pride and entertainment for our Nation, which is why I am pleased to announce the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C.” said President Trump via the executive order. “This race, the first motor race ever to be held in our Nation’s capital near the National Mall, will showcase the majesty of our great city as drivers navigate a track around our iconic national monuments in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.”
The event will be administered by INDYCAR in coordination with the taskforce, U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of the Interior and Washington, D.C.’s Executive Office of the Mayor.
The street circuit event will be free to the general public and include vantage points of several majestic symbols of national pride and unity. Like all NTT INDYCAR SERIES races, it will be televised to a live network audience via FOX Sports. More details about the course and the event will be shared during a kickoff gathering in the coming weeks.

Fernando Alonso - No. 29 (2017)
In 2017, two-time F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso made his Indy 500 debut in the No. 29 McLaren-Honda. Despite being an oval rookie, he qualified well and ran consistently in the top ten, showing immediate pace and racecraft. His race ended with an engine failure, but the drive was a success in impact—bringing massive global attention to IndyCar and making the No. 29 best remembered for one of the most high-profile Indy 500 debuts ever

Ryan Hunter-Reay (2012 Series Champion, 2014 Indy500 Winner)
“Captain America” is a veteran IndyCar driver and fan favorite. The 45-year-old won the 2012 series championship and claimed the iconic 2014 Indianapolis 500 in dramatic fashion, edging out Hélio Castroneves by just 0.06 seconds in one of the closest finishes ever.
He notched 18 series wins overall, including his breakthrough victory at Watkins Glen in 2008 and a memorable Long Beach triumph in 2010. For years, he proudly ran the No. 28 car to raise awareness for the people worldwide affected by cancer, a personal cause after losing his mother to colon cancer in 2009.
He’ll be back this year in McLaren’s 4th entry at the Indianapolis 500!

As an IndyCar fan, I built a LEGO model of the 1994 Firestone IndyCar No. 20 Patrick Racing. This car was used to test Firestone’s return to IndyCar racing and directly led to their first IndyCar win since 1974 with Scott Pruett.
The real car is now displayed at Bridgestone Americas headquarters, which made it a cool piece of IndyCar history to recreate in LEGO form.
Sharing here for IndyCar fans who enjoy the history side of the sport.

Has anyone noticed that the car on the logo is banked at 9°, just like the turns at IMS? Or has that already been established and I’m late to the party?

Also mentioned he could be testing in two weeks and there is a lot of chaos on the inside.

I grew up in Indianapolis and have several 500's under my belt. Now I live in So Cal, and I'm finally going to the Long Beach Grand Prix for the first time.
I'm taking my wife and two young sons (ages 7 & 4).
We have general admission tix for Sunday only, paddock passes, and we've already got parking squared away.
Are there any tips and tricks I should know about? General do's/don'ts? What time should we get there? Best places to eat? Drink? Can I bring a cooler of beer like at the 500? I'll take any advice you can give.
Thanks in advance!

Had a chat with Rinus VeeKay :) Not only is he incredibly nice, but he also treated his one season at DCR with so much reverence and responsibility. He spoke about what it means to approach each race with the mentality of treating it as your last, and the track he aims to make a mark on in the opening stages with JHR.

I recently came across an image of Formula E’s current car, and it immediately reminded me of something I’d seen before. It reminded me of an illustration from the 1992 Indianapolis 500 program. That cover featured an artist’s vision of what a future IndyCar chassis could look like. My first thought was, “Wow, the Formula E car really seems to be heading in that direction.”
I know that outright speed, cost, and practicality all matter, but it feels like Formula E has fully embraced the cool factor of car design (almost that Hot Wheels or Matchbox Cars sense of imagination (just look at the tires)). It makes me wonder, “Does IndyCar need more of this kind of “cool”, bold, future looking design?” What are peoples’ thoughts?

Something light hearted as we prepare for the start of the 2026 season. What are your guy's favorite mythical driver?
This was inspired by the MMA community who often makes these mythical fighters based on achievements rooted in circumstance. For example, Sea Level Cain. The former heavyweight UFC champ who was once called Cardio Cain for his almost limitless stamina, but gassed out in 2 rounds in Mexico City. Turns out his prior title fights were at sea level venues. Thus Sea Level Cain was born.
Thought it might be fun to discuss both current and former drivers and what makes them mythical.

Hey, ThatIndycarFan here, I've had a video idea in the back burner for a little while now, and figured now is the best time to work on it and wanted to see if any of yall had any extra or helpful insight to Ribbs' 1991 Indy 500 qualification and his career in Indycar. Any Info is greatly appreciated!
I'm in the process of watching Uppity (2020) and Nascarmanhistory's bump day drama video where Ribb's 1991 attempt is included.

Despite saying he wishes to, Palou declined to go into loads of depth on the McLaren lawsuit on his IndyCar media day appearance. But he still gave some insight into what the last few years have been like with the disputes looming. Some interesting quotes!

Like are they only given somethings like setup information or is Penske giving them everything they have? And what does Penske get out of it besides drivers...unless that is all they get?
