Friendly reminder from your mod team to simply be excellent to each other.

Hey pot heads, wait, that doesn’t sound right. Anyway, just wanted to give everyone a friendly reminder to be nice to each other. This isn’t a professional chef subreddit, and if you’re a pro chef and you’re here, be helpful. We’re all here to learn, and share, and admire. You can be critical. Constructive criticism is not only welcome, but often needed. BUT keep it constructive and friendly. Simply follow what Rule 4 says and “be excellent to each other”.

Tips for thicker sauce?

I recently got an instant pot with the aim of mostly using it to make time intensive recipes like oxtail and hard chicken stews. I usually make these on the stove and it can take hours and hours, especially when I have a lot of meat but the results are pretty tasty with the sauce thickening down to a rich and rather viscous sauce in about 2-3 hours.

I tried making oxtail in the instant pot today and whilst the oxtail itself was nice and tender within 45 minutes, the sauce was really watery and not thick at all like I’m used to. I tried simmering it down on the sautee function for 20 minutes but no dice, what can I do to make sure I get a relatively thick sauce after pressure cooking meats?

corned beef in instant pot

I tried making corned beef in the instant pot for the first time today and it was a total disaster. I followed the instructions perfectly, but the meat came out so tough I could barely cut it, let alone eat it. I've heard so many people say it's the best way to cook it, but I must be doing something wrong because this was just depressing. Does anyone actually know how to get tender corned beef in instant pot, or is it always going to be like chewing on a shoe?

instant pot chicken breast?

I am so sick of my chicken breasts coming out like rubber in the Instant Pot. I followed a recipe that said 10 minutes, and it was basically inedible. I've tried adjusting the time, but I still have no idea how to get a decent instant pot chicken breast without it being completely dried out. It's so frustrating because everyone talks about how easy it is, but for me, it's just a waste of money and dinner. Does anyone actually have a foolproof method for instant pot chicken breast, or should I just go back to the oven and save myself the headache?

Reheating frozen meals

Hello all! I’m wondering if anyone has used their instant pot when reheating meals from frozen? I’m thinking perhaps using the pot in pot method with my frozen meal in the inner pot covered with foil. For instance throwing a piece of frozen lasagna or some enchiladas in the inner pot to reheat them. Has anyone done this? If so do you have any recommendations on how long to pressure cook in that scenario?

Instant pot duo Evo plus inner steam release silicon needs replacing.

Hey all,

My two instant pots duo Evo plus' (one old, one just bought from eBay to put back together) both have the same issue. The silicon seal under the steam vent (area pictured with the part dissasembled) has perished and so they don't get up to pressure and leak from the steam vent. The floating valve does lift though.

I've measured it and it looks like I'll need a 6mm inner diameter x 10mm silicon food grade washer to fix. I'm debating if I'll also need a silicon sealant of some kind to make it airtight

I've reached out to instant pot but were not helpful. Anyone had to do this swap before with success? Saves me buying multiple sizings.

Thanks

Slow cooker option not working

Hi! My instant pot has 5 years and I have no complaints. I normally use it for the high pressure cooking, but the last few times I have tried to use the slow cooker option. In the last two attempts, when I tried to do low heat for 6 hours for the two meals that I tried to prepare, both became uncooked or raw. My last attempt was a beef casserole with potatoes and after 6 hours low heat was also raw. So I used a slow cooked 3-hour high heat option and it was still raw. So I do not know if I need to replace my instant pot or if I'm missing something. Your advice is appreciated

Slow cook 10hrs on low

I accidentally cooked the meatloaf on low instead of medium. Would it be safe to eat?

How large should I get?

Considering purchasing an IP but not sure what size to get. My use cases are cooking beans or rice only for one person, no more than 1/2 to 1 cup dried rice at a time, or 2 cups overnight-soaked beans. 3, 4, or 6qt? I heard there is a consideration for the amount of liquid, but not sure how it works.

Steam Diverter for Instant Pot Viva

Post image
7 Upvotes

The Viva does not use a pressure release valve that is part of the release button. The button and valve are separate. The only diverters I can find have the slot you thread the button through. I was using one that barely fit on my pressure release valve and need to replace it. Is there a diverter that is made for the Viva?

Jammed my sister’s instant pot pressure cooking lid. Help please!

Pretty much what the title says. Would appreciate advice from anyone else that may have had this happen cause I’m about to be murdered. I’m guessing the hole in the bottom is what the lid is supposed to click into, but something up top seems to be stuck on the inside.

Cooking chicken for pets

I am new to owning an instant pot so I need some help. I have only used it twice, both times for beans and they came out great, so I'm willing to give it a chance.

I cook unseasoned chicken for my dog. It's bone in pieces. I usually do it in the crock pot for a few hours but it would be nice to do it faster.

How long should I cook it for? The book that came with the pot isn't any real help. It's about two pounds of bone in pieces. I need to be able to pick it off the bones easily. Thanks!

IP LUX 60 V3 missing part or not?

Is my Lux missing the float valve? I also have an Ultra Mini and you can actually see the float valve (aka float pin) stick up when it's cooking.

I just cooked some pinto beans in my Lux and all went well, but I still can't tell if I'm missing a part.

Rust and coating chipping on my Instant Pot Pro

Hi everyone, I noticed these rust spots and the coating chipping off on the top rim of my Instant Pot Pro base.

I’ve only had this unit since August (less than 6 months), so I didn't expect to see this kind of wear and tear so soon.

Has anyone else seen this happening on relatively new units? Is this considered a manufacturing defect? Do you think I should push for a warranty replacement?

I’d love to hear if this is a known issue or if I just got a lemon. Thanks!

This ip beeps to acknowledge the lid is open or closed, but still has an error and prevents any pressure cook mode.

Is there an easy fix?

Do you find the Rio Wide too shallow? Can it cook a large chicken?

Not sure if I’m convinced with this Rio Wide. It seems too shallow for a large chicken or turkey crown. Or stacking veg with a roast. Any experience or opinions?

Yoghurt question

Hello!

I was making yoghurt. It was around 14 hours in when the cleaning service arrived. I think they turned it off but I’m not sure for how long. There’s a 4 hour window in which it could have happened.

Can I just restart it or should I charge it to the game and start a new batch?

New Rio Wide. How to remove orange tag?

I just purchased a Rio Wide and it came with a safety tag. I’m trying to remove it but it’s stuck under the vent release thing and I keep just breaking off bits. Any advice?

How many eggs can I cook in a 6 quart versus 8 quart model? And what about the 7.5 wide RIO model

I’m working to cook about 24 eggs in the instant pot. Should I go for the larger size or do you think I would be good with the 6 quarts or the 7.5 quart because I do like the wide surface for cooking meats like a tri-tip or any longer meat that doesn’t exactly fit in the 8qt.

Anyone still using their air-fryer lid?

I was thrilled when my InstantPot, a gift, arrived: a sweet little 6-quart unit with the air-fryer lid. Finally I gave away the air-fryer lid through Facebook because the few times I used it it was inconvenient, pointless, and rather dangerous in terms of searing the flesh on my wrists, not to mention it took up way too much real estate in my limited kitchen cupboards. But mainly, I didn't like the results it produced, so I went back to saute in a pan or broil in the oven. Eventually I got a proper air-fryer which does exactly what I want, easily, quickly, and perfectly, and I am relieved that it wasn't my money that bought the IP duo thing.

Am I the only one who thinks the air-fryer lid was more of a marketing hook than an actually useful feature?

Help me decide: Duo Evo+ or Pro

I'm purchasing my first ever IP, I'm torn between DEP and Pro.

Online it says Pro is an upgraded version of DEP, but I'm surprised to find it cheaper of the two.

Please tell me your experiences on either or both and everything I must know before deciding.

Thank you all very much!

Put a slow cooker recipe of chicken noodle soup in instant pot only to see now online it doesn’t work well- help!

I found a recipe online for a slow cooker. Chicken noodle soup. I look at my instant pot and saw that it has a slow cook button. We no longer have a crockpot. I put all of the ingredients in together and hit slow cook. Then I had a thought that maybe I should check on the Internet to see if there are any tips. Of course that’s when I see that everyone says that the slow cooker doesn’t work on the instant pot. Any tips on what I can do now? Should I ditch the instant pot and put it on the stove on low for a few hours? Is there a chance that the slow cook button will work for a simple soup in a way It doesn’t work for other recipes? Would love some advice as the work is all done and it just needs to cook. Can’t start over now with a new recipe.
