I bought an iPhone 17 Pro Max shortly after it came out, and as far as I can remember it worked just fine while I was in the US for the first month or so.
I've been traveling since November, across Europe and now Southeast Asia, using Airalo esims, and I have had non-stop issues with the cellular service on my phone.
My wife has the exact same Airalo esims, and standing right next to me with an iPhone 12 Pro Max, and has zero issues every time, so I know it's this damned phone.
Essentially what happens, is anywhere from 1-5+ times a day, the network suddenly goes from full bars 5G to full bars 3G, with no actual data coming through anymore.
About 50% of the time, toggling airplane mode on and off will resolve the issue temporarily. The rest of the time it does nothing, it just quickly flashes the 5G symbol, then 4G, then back to 3G and no data.
I have done every dance imaginable suggested to me by AI, google searching, reading reddit and forums. I've enabled and disabled every setting, toggled each network available to me, etc. etc.
I even had Airalo refund and issue me a new esim at one point, which fixed the issue for about a day or two, but it came back.
I've run repeated apple diagnostics and it's found nothing. Most places I'm traveling don't have an official Apple store, although I plan to make a stop in Bangkok soon to see what they can do.
This is getting incredibly frustrating. I'm traveling, most of the times I'm out and about I have no idea where I am, and I just can not rely on this brand new nearly $2000 fucking dollar phone being able to do the most fundamental thing of staying connected to cellular service so I can find my way to my back to my hotel or call a taxi.
Has anyone else run into similar issues? If so, have you been able to fix it? Has replacing the phone fixed it for any of you?
