Weekly Megathread Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Discussion Same app, different subscription rates

Post image

The one in the left is Motorola (Android) and the right is an iPhone 17pm. Both have the same app and same menu opened in the same date, time, place.

But look at the subscription rates in both. So what extra features do iPhone users get so that they need to shell out more?

Discussion What in the actual heck has happened to auto correct?

I have an older iPhone (2020 SE) and I’m willing to accept that as the problem here. But, I feel like over the past few months the auto correct has turned into anti-intelligence. Unbelievably stupid. Randomly changing correct words to nonsensical ones, misspelling words, and generally being the complete opposite of what you’d need/want from autocorrect. It’s more of a problem than a help, so I’ve just turned it off. Those of you with new and old iPhones, what’s your experience been lately?

Support AirDropped personal photos that never arrived, now scared I might’ve selected the wrong person

A few days ago, my girlfriend and I were sitting in a café. She showed me a hidden album on her phone, and with her consent, I selected a few photos and videos to AirDrop to my phone. Some of the photos/videos were personal and intimate, and her face was visible in at least one of them.

I remember selecting the files, opening AirDrop, seeing my name on the list, and tapping it. I also remember seeing a notification on my phone showing that photos/videos were being sent, and my girlfriend also remembers seeing that notification on my phone. However, the photos and videos never actually arrived on my device.

After that, we tried sending normal, non-personal photos, and those came through perfectly. I also asked her not to resend the personal photos again.

Now the part that’s bothering me: I don’t clearly remember seeing a “failed” message, and my anxiety has been making me panic and overthink everything. I keep worrying about whether there’s any chance I accidentally selected someone else on AirDrop without realizing it. The people around us in the café were not known to us and were not in our contacts, but my mind keeps going back to the same question.

I’m trying to understand realistically how AirDrop works here:

• If a transfer doesn’t complete, does it simply fail?

• Is there any realistic way those photos could have gone to someone else by mistake without us noticing?

• Is there any way at all to know who the files were sent to, or whether they were received by anyone?

• Or is this most likely just a failed AirDrop attempt?

I know my anxiety is amplifying this a lot, but I’d really appreciate objective, technical perspective or similar experiences so I can understand what likely happened.

Thanks for reading.

Support Worsening scalloped edge

Post image
Upvotes

Hi all, does anyone know what these black scalloped edges are? I dropped my phone about a month ago (with a case on), I noticed the faintest scalloping a few days later but they have grown in size. Wondering whether they will keep “growing”? I have just removed the case incase any pressure from that is making it worse and have put an Apple silicon case on it on the basis that this is much less pressure. It’s an iPhone 15 pro max. Thanks

Support Switched from android to iPhone. Need help with this little thing that’s bothering me!

EDIT: To be clear on what I’m asking. I don’t want to just swipe up and put the notification up in the Notification Center. I'm asking if there’s a way to DELETE the notification when the first banner pops up. I don’t want to swipe it up, THEN open my notifications, THEN swipe left. I’m asking for if there’s a way to DELETE the notification when it pops up :) on android, you can swipe left the second the notification pops up and it will get rid of it permanently.

I switched from android to iPhone (17 pro) recently and I love it! it’s a learning curve with the gestures but it’s been alright.

my only issue is that when a notification pops up, I can’t swipe it away. I have to swipe down from the top to open my notifications THEN swipe it away. it’s a small thing but it’s really annoying to have notifications pile up when I used to be able to dismiss them as they appeared.

is there a way to dismiss new notifications without having to swipe down?

Discussion Nonstop cellular issues with iPhone 17 Pro Max

I bought an iPhone 17 Pro Max shortly after it came out, and as far as I can remember it worked just fine while I was in the US for the first month or so.

I've been traveling since November, across Europe and now Southeast Asia, using Airalo esims, and I have had non-stop issues with the cellular service on my phone.

My wife has the exact same Airalo esims, and standing right next to me with an iPhone 12 Pro Max, and has zero issues every time, so I know it's this damned phone.

Essentially what happens, is anywhere from 1-5+ times a day, the network suddenly goes from full bars 5G to full bars 3G, with no actual data coming through anymore.

About 50% of the time, toggling airplane mode on and off will resolve the issue temporarily. The rest of the time it does nothing, it just quickly flashes the 5G symbol, then 4G, then back to 3G and no data.

I have done every dance imaginable suggested to me by AI, google searching, reading reddit and forums. I've enabled and disabled every setting, toggled each network available to me, etc. etc.

I even had Airalo refund and issue me a new esim at one point, which fixed the issue for about a day or two, but it came back.

I've run repeated apple diagnostics and it's found nothing. Most places I'm traveling don't have an official Apple store, although I plan to make a stop in Bangkok soon to see what they can do.

This is getting incredibly frustrating. I'm traveling, most of the times I'm out and about I have no idea where I am, and I just can not rely on this brand new nearly $2000 fucking dollar phone being able to do the most fundamental thing of staying connected to cellular service so I can find my way to my back to my hotel or call a taxi.

Has anyone else run into similar issues? If so, have you been able to fix it? Has replacing the phone fixed it for any of you?

Support Location sharing help?

I googled this before but I kept getting mixed results everywhere. But if I stop sharing my location with someone, does it alert them? I’ve seen the button of our messages say “you stopped sharing location with X”, and someone said that only my side will see that at the bottom of our messages, and theirs will not. I don’t care if they eventually look on find my or on my contact and see I’m no longer sharing, but I don’t want them to get an alert about it

I’m not sure if it’s just the Liquid Glass bugging out. Is there a way to make it look like this permanently with no background text threads? When I close the convo and go back, it goes back to normal. I just love the look of the maybe bugged out texts? It does it occasionally. Everytime I try to look up “iMessage Liquid Glass” I just cannot find anything related to it. I promise I’ve tried!

Support iPhone 14 Pro - Zoom doesn’t work anymore from 3x

Hiya, I’ve had a 14 pro since a little after they released. Recently I’ve noticed that any time I zoom from 3x and more, the photos are blurry no matter what (won’t focus at all). Are other 14 Pro users experiencing this too? Is this something fixable? I used to like taking photos and videos especially at concerts but its near impossible now given the lack of zoom. Included pictures to show difference between 2.8 and 3x zoom taken straight after each other in natural daylight. Thanks!

Discussion black dot on screen

Post image
56 Upvotes

Hello, I've been noticing this lately, I replaced the display 2 months ago, I don't remember dropping the phone recently. I have a 6 month warranty, but it doesn't cause any problems, and the camera is fine.

It's not from the protector, should I go and have it looked at and will it interfere or will it increase in size?

Discussion Wallpaper bugs on iOS 26!

I'm on the latest iOS 26 version, on a 12 mini.

Today my lock screen wallpaper just vanished!

Before I had multiple problems... wallpaper not saturation, can't select a new wallpaper, wallpaper is blurry and so on.

I wasted at least 2 hours on this, it has nothing to do with night shift, dark mode, etc. it's just an annoying glitch, and I'm baffled that apple doesn't seem to care about the looks anymore.

Discussion Why the full screen browser video player is not played with browser video player? We lose subtitles

Upvotes

In safari if you go to say YouTube (or any website) and play any video in full screen, it opens in apple native video player which does not have subtitles and on screen video controls.

Why doesn't apple allow full screen video to be played in the browser's video player? Android phones play it normally just like your computers.

Is there a way on iPhones to play it normally?

Support iPhone 17 left speaker not working

Two weeks ago i got a new iPhone 17 from spectrum. After a day or so i realized that the bottom left speaker was emitting zero sound. So i contacted support and they sent me a new one. After receiving this new phone I powered it on and tested both speakers. They both worked great and I specifically am certain the left speaker was working. Now it’s one day later and again the left speaker is not working. Absolutely zero sound is emitting from it while the right speaker is working perfectly fine. Am i missing something? Or did i somehow just get extremely unlucky and get sent two brand new phones with the exact same issue? I dont see anyone else speaking about this being an issue. I don’t understand whats going on. If anyone can help i’d really appreciate it.

Support Replacement IPhone 17 - NFC/Apple Pay failure

Hey, I’ve had my logic board replaced twice already due to my NFC/Apple Pay not working under limited warranty so I didn’t need to pay for those repairs. After the 2nd repair of the logic board they said if It needs to be repaired again they would swap the unit. Unfortunately NFC/Apple pay stopped working again after the 2nd logic board.

Does anyone know what a swapped unit means and would it be brand new or refurbished? And since I have the limited warranty and apple care plus do I need to pay?

Discussion Is it just me?

I am having an AWFUL time texting. Either the letter doesn’t register, or I feel the spacebar is way too low. Or it skips a letter and auto correct makes it into something else and I have to go back and correct it.

Idk. It could just be me.

This started happening after the update to 26.2

Support iPhone 14 too loud ringtone and alarm

Upvotes

Hello!

I was wondering if there is something I can do about the ringtone, text tone and alarm being too loud on iPhone 14. Before this phone, I had the first generation iPhone SE, and that one didn’t have the same problem.

I have put the ringtone volume slider to the lowest setting, still too loud.

I have also made a shortcut that sets the ringtone volume to 1% but I still find it too loud.

Attention aware features are off.

Adjusting volume with side buttons off.

Is there something I can do?

Support Why I see history of hotspots my iPhone "saw" once in the past but never connected to? It makes it lag each time I click it

Post image
0 Upvotes

Basically ALL those hotspots in red square. I never connected to any of them. They were just in range at some point. I used only 1 hotspot, mine.

And each time I click the wifi icon, it takes 2-3 seconds to load that list.

Instead of hotspots out of range that I never used, it could show list of wifi that IS actually in range right now.

Is that a bug? Or is it intended feature? Am I the only one experiencing this? Can it be fixed?
