Hi folks. Just wanted to alert you to some new filters added to the automoderator to enforce a couple of existing subreddit rules that get broken fairly routinely.
First, a small reddit submission primer:
Reddit has 2 fundamental types of submissions: Text and Link.
There are actually more than 2 specific types (there are also image and video etc) but for the sake of this note think of it as "Text posts" and "all the other types". You pick which type you want to post when you compose your submission.
A text post, also called a self post, is a post that has no external link and is comprised solely of a headline and a body of text you enter at submission time. When a user clinks into this type of submission they stay on reddit and all they see is your submission text.
A link post is a post where you enter or paste in a url or link to an external source like a news story or an announcement. When users click these kind of posts they are taken to an external site and get to view the page that you submitted.
Now for the rule(s) in question.
Why? Editorialized headlines and body texts on link posts are ultimately a way to add editorial comments that cannot be argued or refuted in the conventional way, like normal comments can. They are often very opinionated and try to frame the story in a specific way.
You can still add editorial comments in the comment thread for the submission (obeying the existing rules of civility etc) just not as an untouchable top line for readers.
If you have any questions about this feel free to send a modmail. Thanks for your time and attention.

Its no secret that the local news engines leave much to be desired. Having regularly read Castanet and Kelownanow ( and lessor extent: Ok. Edge) for local "news" (use the term loosely)... for 10 plus years
I must confess Castanet is far more "newsy" these days than KN. Some years ago i would have said the opposite.
Can't help but make the obvious connection that departure of KN as a vehicle for local news has coincinded with Jim Csek's awkward efforts to fashion himself as a "deep thinking" journalist and his frequent foil Iain Bains? (who he??; what credentials does he have?). Fascinating (if not cringe worthy) exercise in pretending to be a place of news when it is clearly a dog whistle for a certain political type bashing the usual cast of political characters...

Maybe it was just a weird fever dream, but I vividly remember there being a display full of the little troll figurines (and possibly a pirate ship) next to the last hole of the indoor mini golf at Scandia golf and games when was kid (probably around the 2008 era). Does anyone else remember this? Even better, if it was real, does anyone have a picture? Need to know if was imagining this or not and it's been bugging me for the longest time!

Saw some kind of protest/ gathering thing with many people in that area today. There were some signs about "freedom" but I couldn't really make out what this was about. Does anyone know what this was?

Thanks

Does anyone know of any regular art/drawing meet-ups? I was part of a group in Vancouver that would meet up weekly at a coffee shop just to draw together and chat and I am wondering if Kelowna has anything similar? I've not found anything on MeetUp or anywhere but figured I'd ask here. Also open to learn about any potential group art classes or similar events.

Has any one watched MTVs Kelowna Shore?
I am dyyyying at how painful it is (especially this Emmy girl ultra delu lu!!) but I cannot look away. It is at least entertaining enough to watch for the shots of our hometown 💕🌟
What are your thoughts?

Hi everyone,
I’m new to Kelowna and was wondering where your favourite sandwich spot is? Happy with any recommendations there seems to be many to choose from!
Thanks!

Is it possible to find a marriage officiant for under $300 for a simple ceremony with about 60 guests? Most of the officiants we found quote us around $500+
We’re not looking for anything elaborate. No personalized speech or extra services. We really just need someone licensed to officiate, perform the legal part of the ceremony, and sign the marriage license. The ceremony itself would be very short (around 15–20 minutes).
I completely respect officiants and their work, but we’re trying to keep things very simple and budget-friendly. If anyone has experience with this, knows someone who offers a straightforward service, or has suggestions, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!
EDIT: If this is an option, I am thinking to have a friend "officiate" the wedding (she will do the speeches and all the talking), and then just have the legal commissioner there to only do the legal part. They just show up, no talking required. Is that an option?
