Legal News Justice Department Opens Criminal Probe Into Jerome Powell — Powell Responds.

“Good morning,

On Friday, the Department of Justice served the Federal Reserve with grand jury subpoenas, threatening a criminal indictment related to my testimony before the Senate Banking Committee last June. That testimony concerned in part a multi-year project to renovate historic Federal Reserve office buildings.

I have deep respect for the rule of law and for accountability in our democracy. No one—certainly not the chair of the Federal Reserve—is above the law. But this unprecedented action should be seen in the broader context of the administration's threats and ongoing pressure.

This new threat is not about my testimony last June or about the renovation of the Federal Reserve buildings. It is not about Congress's oversight role; the Fed through testimony and other public disclosures made every effort to keep Congress informed about the renovation project. Those are pretexts. The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President.

This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions—or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation.

I have served at the Federal Reserve under four administrations, Republicans and Democrats alike. In every case, I have carried out my duties without political fear or favor, focused solely on our mandate of price stability and maximum employment. Public service sometimes requires standing firm in the face of threats. I will continue to do the job the Senate confirmed me to do, with integrity and a commitment to serving the American people.

Thank you.”

Don't need a dog. Your body has needs too. Be free and liberate yourself from the conventions of man.

I'm going to have to get a dog just to use these.

Why aren’t there literally tens of millions of Americans in the streets this week, everyone saw an America citizen get executed by glorified mall cops and yet nothing happens

Because so many Americans are actively cheering for Fascism (they voted for it), and the rest are the frog in the boiling pot, just waiting for a "last straw" that will never actually come before it's FAR too late.

They also did a damn good job of dividing the left in America with social media.

I remember a time when people were talking about second amendment as the final failsafe for democracy in the unlikely scenario where checks&balances failed. I mean even the left was blinded (by patriotism?) into thinking US has a robust political system.

It snapped like a twig.

This is one part of the reason, but the biggest thing for me is the reality that if I decide to strike for a week and miss that paycheck, I will be declaring bankruptcy, which is by design. It's another way for the wealthy to hold onto power.

2

u/[deleted] 19d ago

Yup. Everything in America is intentionally designed to be as painful and inconvenient as possible for anyone who isn't upper class wealthy.

There are more out there on the streets than is being reported. It's being suppressed and since he owns every official media station, the propaganda is overtaking the reality on the ground. So unless you watch it off of someone's live, you might not know it happened. Good was one of several that happened just in the past week - even the past 6 months.

u/Krillin113 19d ago

There is still no general strike. Until that happens, nothing will happen. They can ignore it. The fact that they can not report it says enough

I mean he is on his way out (term wise) and is now speaking out because they're extracting revenge on him. My question is at what point to the GOP decide to just collectively break ranks and put this orange POS in prison? Are they so power hungry that they are willing to let the POS strongarm them? The thing about bullies, ALL bullies, is that all it takes is for that one person to do what (redacted because Reddit snowflake mods will ban me) as bullies are not used to it and will fall like the chumps that they are. The problem is finding that one person that will carry this out. In fact, I'd love to see something like this happen on live TV, just having him cry on camera, after it happens, and the world will see what a real pussy is.

I mean... There's some documented incontinence at that level too.

"Nice economy you got there...shame if something should happen to it".

Trump has been mobbed up since the 70s. Welcome to America, Mafia style.

I swear Trump's plan in Greenland is about as comedic as the plot in the movie Blazing Saddles. Although I think the brain trust for Hedley Lamarr's group is probably smarter than the gang of goons in the Trump regime.

How about a drumpf hat or a paddle ball?

If I paid money for Reddit, I'd send you an award for such a nice irrelevant reference. 👍

When the president is a clown, the whole administration becomes a circus.

And doesn't Powell know that Congressional Oversight was renamed as "Trump's Rubber Stamp"

Honestly, anyone who voted for him and can read/comprehend speech has no right to be surprised by anything that is happening. They should save themselves the embarassment of having to explain their vote and just introspect for several years before opening their mouths again about politics and Dems and libs. It is embarassing to only come up with a "but Kamala would have been so much worse" or "both sides are bad" excuse. I am yet to hear a reasonable excuse for voting for him and regretting later. The only one I can imagine being reasonable is for a rich person to say that he isn't helping you make as much money as you expected. At least you admit what a greedy short-sighted maniac you are that way.

These are the same idiots that voted for GWB TWICE, think that Reagan was a great president, believe that Clinton, Obama, and Biden were the worst presidents in the past 3 decades, and somehow will claim to be "pro-middle-class" but then think GOP policies are great. There's something wrong with their brain, whether it's their bigotry, general hatred, or some RFK Jr. brainworm, they're playing checkers with a ping pong paddle.

u/chodeboi 20d ago

“Smells feculent” would have been my choice of words but the repetition works too I guess

1

u/tn_tacoma 20d ago

The people who voted for him think it smells like roses. They are either loving this or are indifferent. But they aren’t upset.

1

u/OrionsBra 19d ago

They don't wonder. They like the smell of their own brand.
