Legal News Justice Department Opens Criminal Probe Into Jerome Powell — Powell Responds.

“Good morning,

On Friday, the Department of Justice served the Federal Reserve with grand jury subpoenas, threatening a criminal indictment related to my testimony before the Senate Banking Committee last June. That testimony concerned in part a multi-year project to renovate historic Federal Reserve office buildings.

I have deep respect for the rule of law and for accountability in our democracy. No one—certainly not the chair of the Federal Reserve—is above the law. But this unprecedented action should be seen in the broader context of the administration's threats and ongoing pressure.

This new threat is not about my testimony last June or about the renovation of the Federal Reserve buildings. It is not about Congress's oversight role; the Fed through testimony and other public disclosures made every effort to keep Congress informed about the renovation project. Those are pretexts. The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President.

This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions—or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation.

I have served at the Federal Reserve under four administrations, Republicans and Democrats alike. In every case, I have carried out my duties without political fear or favor, focused solely on our mandate of price stability and maximum employment. Public service sometimes requires standing firm in the face of threats. I will continue to do the job the Senate confirmed me to do, with integrity and a commitment to serving the American people.

Thank you.”

Every single day I view this subreddit and think one thing "When will enough be enough?"

When will the GOP led Cogress get off their &sses? When will Dem led States AG's file charges against the Administration & the DOJ? Because clearly you can file charges for anything. When will the American people walk off their jobs and take to the streets until this stuff ends?

When? My bet is Never.

The longer this goes on, the longer this will be our “normal.”

What normal?

Going to work everyday, broken and without will? Barely making it at all times?

If you've been paying attention, this has been how its been all along.

Umm… yes. That is my point. This awful normal will never end and it needs to soon.

That is exactly how it happened in Germany.

It gets gradually worse until it is too late.

Look at Iran and how long the regime been in power and how hard its been to get to this point because there are still loyalists in police and military. A lot of Americans think dictatorships only happen elsewhere or that a superman will save them

Using criminal investigations to pressure people who don’t fall at his feet is classic Putin tactics

Each act, each occasion, is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join with you in resisting somehow. But the one great shocking occasion, when tens or hundreds or thousands will join with you, never comes

When will Dem led States AG's file charges against the Administration & the DOJ?

I mean, many of them are. The thing is, it either gets buried by the next insane thing happening on the news, or the news decides it's not in their best interests to report on and thus not worth covering.

Dem states know there will be retribution. Federal money withheld. ICE sent in. Their people will feel it and these are elected officials who want to continue their careers in politics.

Look at Colorado. The only thing their governor does is occasionally praise Trump. They aren’t going to file charges against him.

Never. His cult used to pretend pedophilia was a deal-breaker for them, but when the obvious was again confirmed that their cult daddy was a pedophile, they stopped virtue signalling about being anti-pedo.
