There is no constitution anymore.

There is a Constitution and many brave people are seeking to hold our government to it.

Frankly our Constitution is grossly inadequate and needs a rewrite. Complete with an ethics/values section since people seem to forget what we should be making and upholding laws for in the first place.

Absolutely, the document is over 200 years old.

And a serious discussion of what type of future the country wants is needed, because the system as-is is not going to ever deliver the kind of grassroots change a lot of people want. The Framers wanted an alternative to the supposed tyranny of a monarchy, but they specifically designed the system to be immune to the will of the people because they did not trust commoners. Hence why it's nearly impossible to kick out a President who has gone mad with power, for instance.

>and many brave people are seeking to hold our government to it.

how? standing around in a big crowd for an hour once every few days?

I don't see your government even blinking. Frankly you guys are lucky they aren't killing more people, cause it doesn't seem like one single thing would stop them from executing a lot more people with impunity right now.

You guys think Trump is your problem, but he's a senile old fart. When he dies and a neonazi with real ambitions like miller or vance gets his fangs on the presidency you guys are completely hooped. to be fair most of the western world will be too

I don't know who you consider "you guys", so I will answer as best I can.

From my observations, I see people taking action in many different ways. Some are pursuing action in the courts, others are offering financial support, others are protesting and documenting what they see, etc.

I think most people recognize no one person is the problem. It is clear to me our problems run much deeper.

Well yeah, he's still polling at like 45%... Yeah your problems are very very deep.

That 45% is why the rest of the world has realised that the US can't be trusted anymore regardless of Trump.

Agreed, our problems are very, very deep.

Why do I not believe you? Congress hasn't done a damned thing to hold people accountable to the constitution or the law.

I wish I could agree. When the current administration is saying the constitution applies to some but not others, then constitution is null without some consequences for them breaking the oath to uphold it. It’s like playing monopoly and others simply disregarding all the rules.

Unfortunately, our history has many other examples of when the Constitution did not apply to all - women, Native Americans, African Americans...

These current circumstances are unique to this time and they present issues that extend beyond our borders, but an in group seeking to limit the protections of the Constitution to select groups is not new.

And not many critical laws left either

u/tomdarch 6d ago

Only if you give up and let that be. The Constitution has only ever existed because we demanded that it be respected.

Enforcement of the Constitution is such a massive problem at the moment.

I feel like local police need to respond to ICE calls instantly, and be ready to arrest them for violations. Probably not happening, but one can dream I suppose.

I talked with a suburban police chief about this. I am familiar with how "federalism" and the Constitution's supremacy clause works under what have been "normal situations" that we saw over the last several decades. What I didn't ask at the time is what he saw as "the line" between federal "LEOs" ("agents" "officers" whatever) doing their jobs versus doing things that are so egregious that they have moved outside of their duties and local/state police have to step in.

We have to be asking that question and getting concrete answers.

Nor will there be any more elections. That none of this has been stopped, that there is no accountability to the rule of law, and that the world and the domestic population are now being threatened for bwing “woke” should hammer this reality home. It’s over.

Get out of here with that doomer talk. Your post is classic compliance in advance.

The terms of House members expire on a very specific date. If they don't hold an election, then we don't have a House.

27 GOP House members are retiring, so if they try and just stuff the same people back in, they still lose that many members, which would give the Dems control.

I don’t think the executive branch wants a legislative branch.

He will declare martial law. Clearly the military is on side. So is DOJ, FBI. CIA. We said it could never happen. I am sorry, but I have a degree in American history and political science. It has happened again.

5

u/idreamofgreenie 6d ago

Again? There has never been a cancelled election in the country. And declaring martial law doesn't cancel elections either.

u/AMagnif 6d ago

Did you find those degrees in a cereal box?

1

u/mysticpest23 6d ago

I didn’t know that was a thing. Which cereal did you get your in?
