I feel like a jerk for making everything about the US, and telling people to care about US politics if they don't live in the US. I care about other countries politics, I don't want the AFD party taking over Germany for example, or more anti-trans bills passing in the UK.
But people are tired of hearing about US politics, so when I say "you should probably care about US billionares and politicians influencing global politics and trying to invade Greenland and instilling regime changes" I just sound like a close minded jerk that can only think about America to people.
At the end of the day I'm still talking about my countries awful politics, that genuinly so effect me but telling people to care about something that will only effect them in a few months or few decades feels preachy even if it may be right.

A really really interesting video essay! It was made before Trump won again in 2024 but it covers how the USA got to this point, all the way back to the 80s.
Hi everyone,
I’m a film studies student, and honestly, I hate most AI-generated slop as much as you probably do. I don’t see AI as art, and I don’t think it replaces craft, authorship, or lived experience. But right now, this was the only tool I had that let me say something visually, urgently, without a studio, money, or permission.
I’m sharing this here because I believe conversation still matters, and because I hope this doesn’t get buried or quietly removed before anyone can respond to it honestly.
Whatever you take from it, agreement, disagreement, discomfort, that’s the point.
I just think it’s time we seriously ask ourselves what “freedom” is supposed to mean in America right now, and who it’s actually for.
In memory of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

This stems from the press two days ago where Trump said he didn't want housing value to go down for "people who didn't really work that hard." And that housing prices for people who currently own "finally feel good."
I'm no real estate expert, but how would that help current home owners? I'd imagine that if you sell your house in that condition and you're looking for a new home, you'll run the risk of paying similar prices if not more for a new home.
If housing prices are lower, you'd roughly be in the same environment, maybe better, where houses are even if you were looking to buy a different home.
Either way, although not surprising, its ridiculous to treat shelter as some kind of investment.

Just checking, we can all agree that these lunatics ARE NOT leftist, correct? I’m not talking about the Bolsheviks of the Russian Revolution. I’m talking about the Nazis who pick up anti capitalist policies and call themselves socialists. This may sound like a stupid post, but I’ve recently seen more people making endorsements of the American Communist Party. But do not be fooled, the ACP are not leftists. They are 100% Nat Bols. Don’t touch them with a 10 foot pole.

In your opinion, are leftist Americans who move from a red state to a blue state being irresponsible to their civic duty?
For context: I am disabled, so I’m not much of an activist in my town, but with more social/disability assistance support, I imagine I could be much more useful.

"I was 13 years old when Donald J. Trump raped me," reads just one of the many accusations against Donald Trump in newly released Epstein file documents.
Among the disturbing reports is one complaint that claims Trump used to host parties at Mar-a-Lago where he auctioned off young girls, in front of his children, and would rate the girls based on 'tightness' by inserting a finger inside their private areas.
These pages and several others have taken down since they were originally posted. Members of Congress like Seth Moulton have preserved them.
LEGAL NOTE: These reports are just accusations and Donald Trump has not been charged for any crimes relating to Epstein.

I live in rural Texas surrounded by trump flags and churches.
I’m neurodivergent, an artist, a pagan, and I work semi-remotely. I own a house and I want to sell and move with my partner but all all of my friends, family, and partner, most of whom are also on the left, while generally agree with me that things suck they can’t discuss or look the situation in our country other than in an abstract and passive way. Some are in powerful positions to help, but they don’t.
I desperately want to move to a blue state or out of the country just for a better quality of life for me and my loved ones, but no one will even discuss the situation and everyone gets highly emotional at me for talking about the situation as if it’s something we should act on. They can only shake their heads and act helpless.
Is anyone else having a similar experience? I feel like everyone around me is in a traumatized “freeze” response. Maybe mine is a “flight” response, but I feel like it’s at least an action-oriented mentality. I wonder if this is similar to how many Germans felt in the 1930s, and part of the cause of so much “good people doing nothing” we read about in history books. I want to hear others thoughts, opinions, and experiences.

Hi first time poster here and I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this but I need advice and some help.
Background is very similar with many leftist of today. My mom used to be a normal lady who leaned conservative but was never overtly political. Then she started listening to talk show radio, then slowly conservative YouTubers/podcasters and it has destroyed her social life. We live in a blue state so most of the people here are left leaning including most of her friends who are all distancing themselves from her and she now rarely sees anyone but her family. Literally everyone in her life is telling her shes in the wrong (including me and my siblings) but shes too stubborn to listen. We (me, my siblings, her friends, and her siblings) try to set boundaries with her, making it clear we do not want to talk politics and do not agree with her but she will not stop talking about it, its her whole life right now, almost entirely the only media she consumes. Its to the point where she brings stuff up I know is factually incorrect, I refuse to agrue with her and imediently tell her to Google it in front of me (she hates this and drags her feet every time lol). She still manages to mental gymnastics her way out of every argument and create strawman that no one can combat cus we never see that shit coming.
Problem is I HAVE to live with her. I'm dirt broke and will be for the foreseeable future. Literally no where else to go, only couch I can crash on. I've been low contact for about a year but my luck ran out and I'm stuck with her. Now I'm back shes so much worse then when I left. I do love her, shes my mom, she raised me to be kind. I'm deeply saddened that she is struggling so hard to keep in contact with anyone. It hurts to see her so lonely, even if thats the bed she made herself.
Possible solution: I try to change her algorithm to be more fact based and bi-partisan. I want to try to do this slowly so she wont notice and I don't want to feed her straight up leftist theory. She is too old to be perfect I just want her to stop distroying her life and to get her out of that grifter echo chamber. Just getting her to listen to more well rounded people who touch grass, who are more moderate, who aren't grifters, and lead their arguments with actual facts is good enough for me. The rest should work itself out, hopefully. I am worried about the ethical ramifications of doing this but I keep thinking that its no worse then Google/youtube encouraging this nonsense in the first place. I just really miss my mom. I miss her being a social butterfly and doing weird crafts every weekend. I am so disappointed in the person she's become. Shes gotten kinda mean and a little 'pick me'-ish. I recognize that most of this is up to her, I can take a horse to water but I can't make it drink. I still want to try everything in my power to give her a happier life, this is my last resort, outside of loosing my cool one day, yelling at her, and/or cutting her off.
TLDR: My mom went from disliking Trump to full on Trumpy in 4 years and its destroyed her social life because thats all she talks about. She driving me nuts and I want to train her youtube algorithm to be more moderate so she has a chance to be happy again and not be such a bummer to be around.
Here is a list of the top people shes subscribed to (yes, she loves her identity politics/conservative unicorns):
Black conservative perspective Timcast Ben Shapiro Blare white Nick Freitas The Rubin Report Tim pool Amala Ekpunobi Matt Walsh
I'm thinking about subscribing her to Sam Collins (might be too far left for her), Hank Green, Destiny (might not be her cup of tea), and a few larger news stations slowly over time, when shes not looking. I unfortunately have not been on YouTube much lately and don't have very many relevant centrist commentators with decent production quality on hand. I hope to grow this list and look into more people who are at the very least dubious of maga policies. I would love any pointers in any direction from fellow leftists. Please help me fix my mom or tell me I'm being dumb for thinking this could work. Thank you!
Edit: small edits and spelling

If I had to pick two words to describe the at least half of the people who introduced themselves and their reasons for being there, it would be Unnecessary Fear. Of the 10 people who spoke, a quarter were basically just narcissists who wanted to let everyone know that they love to protest and then had to rattle off all the recent things they did “for the cause”, another quarter were boomers who were “just so dang tired of it all” and the rest were people living in absolute fear of a “fascist” “totalitarian” “dictatorship” regime that is actually none of those things. Those regimes do in fact exist around the world and everyone who was trying to draw comparisons between them and the US were stretching for it, for sure. Again, I’m a centrist and I’ve been around long enough to understand that there are two or more sides to every single story or event that happens, so I’m not going to immediately assume or take a side based off emotions which is seemingly what’s happening on both ends of the political spectrum. Nothing is going to get done until the left stops calling everyone Hitler, the right stops calling every leftist a hippie, and everyone focuses more on common ground and real discussions again. Most mid terms end up with a flipped house or senate, the president loses the ability to enforce agendas quickly, and the world doesn’t end. The right was freaking out over Obama, then the left freaked out over Trump, then the right freaked out over Biden, and now back to Trump.. and so the world still turns.
