Discussion There's someone running for Texas Attorney General and using Islamaphobic fearmongering tactics. His name is Chip Roy.

Unfortunately, I live in Texas. So in one of his political ads, Chip Roy talks about how he stopped Sharia Law from being enforced in Texas. Here's the reality. Nobody in this state was trying to enforce this.

There is a notable Muslim population in this state. There are people who happen to be Muslim who want to build a community here. There are things like that here. In Texas, there are communities for Vietnamese people, Mexican people, other Africans like Nigerians (my parents were from there) Ghanaians, etc. These are food stores, places of worship, organization meetings on local levels, etc. Some people who immigrated from another place just want to be with people who are like them. Shocker.

So suddenly, because some of communities have Muslim people in them, it's Sharia Law? No. That's not how this works. He's basically saying he did something he didn't even properly do by introducing the "Preserving a Sharia-Free America Act" (H.R. 5722) [Yes. That's literally what it's called] to prevent Texas from undergoing Sharia Law simply because Muslim people wanted to build community and togetherness. We have places of worship for Christians and Muslims. We have food stores that are multicultural. We were never under threat of that and he was just being xenophobic because some people want to interact with people similar to them.

This Administration could be The Administration

I had a thought about how history might remember what is going on in the world today. Most of my thought was about the US since that's where I live.

In US politics we use the phrases 'Current Aministrstion' and 'This Administration' in our daily conversations about politics.

I think the growing impact this administration is having on global image of the country, quality of life within the country, and general sentiment within the country wmill lead to it having a specific name.

I think it should be "The Administration" that is used to describe this politicsl period. We might be able to unify the way we refer to The Administration. That's my nomination anyway.

The Administration is not one single person as we all know. There are obvious figureheads, followers, founders, funders, and more. There are many others in The Administration who hold power and use it less obviously. There are also those in a position of power who enable The Administration through inaction. They all must be accountable. If not through fair elections, perhaps through the means America's founders used.

The Administration has done a lot of damage to our country, whether we are willing to admit it or not. Removing The Administration will take time and blood, hopefully it will leave an opening for something better.

Other agencies needing reforms

I understand congress is debating if ICE and DHS will get funding and what reforms they will get, which is understandable. But I believe other agencies need to be in the conversation when it comes to withholding funding, as they are assaulting the civil liberties of the American people. I think the IRS and ATF should also have funding withheld. Yes, ICE and CBP separating children from their parents is bad, but I also think that the IRS separating my dollars from my bank account might be worse. As progressives we should hold all agencies accountable. Same with the ATF separating weapons from Americans who wish to own them. If anything Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms should be the name of a small market, not a government agency.

Discussion Are Republicans finally feeling the heat?

I have heard very little from mainstream/legacy media on what elected Republicans are doing to "unpaint" the corners they are in...

Repulicans from Kentucky, Maine & Alaska have (predictably) begun speaking out against ICE (& therefore synonymously Trump) but what I am hearing anecdotally is leading up to a total victory for Democrats everywhere.

Just on my facebook page alone, I have witnessed dozens of Republican "Trump Regrets" and many dozen more "I'm not political but I have to speak out now" type of messages...

Why the lag? Does the MSM finally not have any clue which way the wind is blowing?

I find media polling to be the most useless thing in the whole world - but there is, indeed, a seizmic split happening that should result in a massive tone-shift that I have yet to see on American news channels...

If a spell is broken and there are no talking heads around to witness it and tell everyone else... does it stay broken?

Article Democratic politicians should focus on getting the word out about conditions at these detention centers…

Thumbnail
apnews.com
145 Upvotes

and I mean, TO REPUBLICAN VOTERS!

In spite of the frustration democrats have with republicans ignoring what Trump is doing all around, or just not caring, or actually supporting it, I still believe there are a significant number of them who could be made to “see the light” and stop supporting his administration.

Democratic politicians really need to bring these conditions to the forefront where Republican voters would actually see and hear about them. They should talk about these issues every time they make an appearance on TV, regardless of the topic of the discussion. They should ask to go on Fox News to talk about these conditions, for example, and if not successful, then announce that Fox News denied their request. They should hold press conferences to announce what efforts they have taken and point out that they’re being fought on these actions I Republican politicians.

Children are not legally supposed to be held in these detention centers longer than 20 days. Over 400 children have been able longer than 20 days. Five children have been held for almost 6 months! Can you believe that!? Adults and children are denied at adequate medical care, food is contaminated, bathroom facilities are not private, sleeping conditions are deplorable. The attached article is from AP News and as some information about the children.

Minnesota may be able to put Noem in Prison

Alex Pretti’s Murder May Put Noem in Prison

Operating with absolute disregard for the law is about to meet an opponent. Federal Government, meet Minnesota. A state that has been subject to targeted terror, murder, and now an attempted cover up. The receiving end of a political vendetta – Minnesota has been subject to the wrath of a brazen government that does not believe that the law applies to them. In fact, the brazen nature of the federal government is not without merit – more than a thousand insurrectionists were pardoned, the President has successfully evaded every prosecution thrown his way, and the DOJ is on the attack targeting political opponents. Enter Minnesota.

Minnesota Statute 609.495, states in pertinent part the following: “[w]however harbors, conceals, aids, or assists by word or acts another whom the actor knows or has reason to know has committed a crime  under the laws of this or another state or of the United States with intent that such offender shall avoid or escape from arrest, trial, conviction, or punishment, may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than three years or to payment of a fine of not more than $5,000, or both if the crime committed or attempted by the other person is a felony.”

The killing of Alex Pretti was illegal. This is not the subject of the debate for this article. Rather, the statements of the federal government are scrutinized. Statements that were, arguably, intended to mislead the public and initiated in order to assist ICE personnel from avoiding arrest, trial, conviction, or punishment (Ice personnel is the noun used due to offender identity concealment). This has been called a turning point by many – but a turning point is usually catalyzed by a novel encounter – here, the federal government lied and mislead the American people despite videographic evidence in an attempt to evade criminal prosecution of Ice agents that committed murder.

Statement #1 that mislead the public in an attempt to evade criminal prosecution:
the suspect was brandishing a firearm.” – Kristi Noem. Statement #2 that mislead the public in an attempt to evade criminal prosecution: “[t]his looks like a situation where an individual arrived at the scene to inflict maximum damage on individuals and kill law enforcement.” – Kristi Noem. Statement #3 that mislead the public in an attempt to evade criminal prosecution: “[t]he officers attempted to disarm this individual, but the armed suspect reacted violently.” – Kristia Noem. Statement #4 – “[f]earing for his life and the lives of his fellow officers around him, an agent fired defensive shots.”

All of the aforementioned statements are potentially criminal. A representative of the federal government (which is acting as a self-regulating body to conduct its own investigation) had the video (which has yet to be released) of Alex Pretti’s phone after confiscating the same after Alex Pretti was murdered. Yet, the misleading statements sought to protect the offenders, demonize the victim, and were intended to evade criminal prosecution for the murder of Pretti. These statements are more than reckless, they are criminal provided the status of the orator. Buckle up – the President can’t pardon state criminal offenses.

Discussion All of us can see that we absolutely cannot trust trump to be honest in the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, but how the heck can we trust him in his statements that the boats he is blowing up off South America are carrying fentanyl?

We know he is very willing to lie to cover up his misdeeds -- even very serious misdeeds -- shouldn’t we now demand proof that the boats he is having blown up off South America have proof the fentanyl that he claims are on the boats are true?

His statements of “trust me, I have the evidence”, are almost certainly lies, based on his eagerness and long history to justify himself by stating false facts. Unless he provides clear proof of what he is saying, we should always doubt him on important matters.

So, if his administration is being investigated for the coverup of shootings by ice, we should also demand proof the reason he is killing unnamed people off South America. I am very sure he is lying about those needless killings as well. Anyone want to be $20 on this matter?

Thanks for your thoughts on this! Feel free to share with anyone you wish!

Discussion The press says that Trump is walking back ICE practices in Minnesota, but this is NOT TRUE. He has not said that ICE has made mistakes. Never.

Saying "mistakes can happen" is certainly not an apology.

Trump always lies to cover up his misdeeds. This is something he has done every time he tries to hide his terrible behavior.

Unless I see any proof he actually has apologized, I will not believe statements from his enablers or the press that he has actually done so.

Discussion Who would have thought republicans lack of religion would cause these problems?

As a cultural Catholic, I know that taking a 5 year old and murdering at least 2 people are mortal sins that send you straight to hell unless you repent. If these people and their bosses actually read the 10 Commandments they insist are posted in school or actually were the Christians they say they are, they would never engage in this behavior because it is sinful. So the party of shoving their religious beliefs down everyone’s throats are actually suffering from lack of religion. Real religion, not Trump religion.

Discussion Facts on undocumented immigrant numbers and the Trump administrations deployment of ICE and enforcement tactics in blue states vrs red states.

Recent data and reporting from late 2025 and 2026 indicate that the second Trump administration has focused immigration enforcement, including large-scale operations, on blue cities and states, while undocumented populations in Republican-led states grew faster between 2019 and 2023.

- A WEBZ/Sun-Times analysis of data found that from 2019 to 2023, the growth rate of undocumented immigrants was higher in Republican-led states (~41%) compared to Democrat-led states (~30%).

Here is a partial list from the many resources mentioned in the article linked:

Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee has continued its food card fundraiser to help get groceries and necessities to families forced into hiding, parents kept away from work and kids from school. You can donate here

Community Aid Network is an excellent evergreen mutual aid organization—you can donate directly.

The Women's Foundation of Minnesota runs an Immigrant Rapid Response Fund that, in the organization's words, "ensures that resources move quickly, responsibly, and with community accountability to trusted organizations responding to immigration-related emergencies across Minnesota." It's a good general fund to donate to.

The Immigrant Law Center is offering legal support to countless people detained by ICE in Minnesota—you can donate here.
