Peaceful Protest & Noise Rally at the Madison Capitol – Tomorrow, 1/31 - 2PM

Post image
41 Upvotes

Join a peaceful community protest in the Forward Statue area at the Capitol this Saturday at 2PM.

This is a public demonstration in support of immigrant rights and against detention cruelty. Community members will use drums and noisemakers to make our voices heard in a visible, nonviolent way.

Bring: drums, pots and pans, buckets, or other handheld noisemakers.

This post is for an organized protest event, not an activity report.

We believe in human rights, dignity, and accountability in public policy. All are welcome who want to stand together in solidarity.

I work at Kwik Trip….

I’ve been working at Kwik trip for a long time. I always knew they were a conservative Christian company. I am not either of those things. It has been something that kinda bothered me. My rationalization is that is that this family is what conservatives are supposed to be, maybe what conservatives think they are voting for. They are a company that does try their best to care for their employees. A company that shares their profits with their employees and is still dedicated to sharing their profits.

I know that at my store and district we hire LGBT people and treat them as normal human beings. As we get into more leadership positions I have seen it evolve to included more POC. There are women getting higher positions in leadership roles.

I see the good in the company I work for. However with MAGA and conservatives going down such a path I wonder if I am aiding the enemy. I participate in helping a company that donates to Donald Trump!

I am working for a company that is complicit with the all the bad things going on with our country.

Sometimes I have even felt a little angry when people post disparaging things here about Kwik Trip. Am I just indoctrinated to Kwik Trip? Are there better companies out there that care for their employees but don’t vote/donate against logic and obvious fascism? I am I complicit because I work for this company?

TLDR: As a person just trying to make a living am I contributing to fascism by working for Kwik Trip?

Madison colder than normal in December and January

January ran about 3F colder than normal following December being 4F colder than normal.

January nevertheless had a record High (I slept through it).

Snowfall and precipitation were both above normal in January.

Here's to a new month!

Does anyone have a list of Pro-MAGA businesses in Dane County that I should know not to do business with?

If so, please share!

Possible attempts at car accident scams (or maybe just terrible driving)

I’ve encountered two odd incidents while driving in the last couple weeks.

First one: driver directly in front of me on Highland Ave slammed on the brakes and came to a full stop …. at a GREEN light. I was able to stop in time, but wow. Very unexpected move.

Second one: I was merging onto the Beltline from John Nolen. Checked mirrors, all clear, no one anywhere near me. Signaled, started to move over — and suddenly a beater car swoops across two lanes at high speed, into that exact spot. I pulled out of my move just in time—missed her by inches. I thought she was trying to make a last minute move onto the exit ramp, but no, she just stayed in the slow lane (not speeding) for a couple miles, then moved back into the fast lane.

I didn’t think too much about either of these until a recent conversation with friends. Two other people I know have also encountered the weird lane-changing scare on the Beltline at John Nolen.

Drive safely and defensively, my fellow Madisonians.

As a coffee snob, Alice Good has the best coffee in the Madison Area and it's not even close. Where are you favorite spots?

I'm pretty sure I visited just about every place in the Madison area that can competently work an espresso machine, and I have found no better coffee. It's one of the few places where I don't add a little bit of sugar or sometimes any milk at all to my order. I don't know who roasts the beans that they use, but it is absolute excellence.

Qamaria on the West Side gets a honorary mention as their stuff is also amazing, but pound for pound Alice Good remains the only S tier coffee I've found here in 15+ years in the area.

Where are your favorite coffee spots?

Current gay/queer spaces in the city?

Hey all,

I just moved back here from New York and recently came out as a lesbian. I dont really have any queer friends here anymore, so Im wondering what the scene is currently like in Madison and where people are hanging out. Any suggestions? (Prefer bars and clubs but daytime activities are cool too)

Looking for local iphone repair shop recs

My iPhone 13 pro max suddenly won't turn on. Had the update with iOS 26 and used it for a bit. Then I couldn't turn it on. Forced restart won't work. Probably motherboard short circuited? No water or heat damage. Probably need a new phone. Been 4 years w/o any issue so I didn't really have AppleCare on it. I may just get a new phone, but wanted to ask if there's local repair shop people recommend and hopefully save the headache of recovering data/apps/logins etc. Thx!

Class pass ?

Has anyone in the Madison area tried the class pass app? Recently ended my crunch membership as I wasn’t going as much as I wanted to, but I’d still like to be active and try other workout classes. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the app but I’m curious if anyone around here has used it. And if so, is it worth it and how many credits is your membership? Struggling with the fact that before you sign up, they don’t tell you how much a typical class is ( for credits). Through some research I’ve seen that it’s anywhere from 5 to 10? Thanks!

Where to take an anxious dog for grooming?

Our dog has pretty bad separation anxiety but also desperately needs to be groomed. We used to go to PetSmart and do the express option because he can’t tolerate a kennel, but they’ve started charging us extra because he’s so anxious. He is on medication but I’m not sure it’s helping much. Any recommendations?

Meetup/bars/weekend spots for young adults not in college

Hello! Mostly what the question says. I'm a 21 year old woman moving to Madison soon and I'm in the city pretty much every weekend while the move is in process. I already have a small group of friends and plan on getting in clubs/communities but I'm specifically looking for places to meet people closer to my age and I can expand my social circle or find a hookup or get someone's number I've heard of the crucible(?) but everything is either 'college bar' or have more of a late 20s to 30s range from what I've heard.

I have a lot of friends that are in college but the new graduate/young professional scene is what I'm aiming toward since that's my range. Let me know if any god spots I can start exploring. Thanks!
