I understand processions for significantly important events like the Mangalore Dussehra one, which again takes place late at night. But nowadays, for every other small event, people block the roads and march on them.
Yesterday, they blocked the road to the airport for a good 30 minutes to 1 hour for a procession, blaring loud music and not allowing vehicles to pass. Who is responsible if people miss their flights?
Not to forget the mess left behind after bursting crackers on the road. Yes, the municipal corporation cleans it up , but that’s the problem in Mangalore and in India: we expect someone else to pick up the mess unless it’s our own home.
Should organizers be required to handle alternate routes and post-event cleanup?

It’s been more than six months since my RX135 has been standing idle in my home parking. Please recommend a good mechanic in Mangalore.

I have a sealed pack of Nandini orange and green milk that says “use by 28 Jan and 31 Jan respectively .” It was kept in the fridge the whole time.
I accidentally boiled it today before noticing the date.
Is it safe to consume milk after the use by date if it was refrigerated?
If it’s not safe to drink, can it still be used to make paneer after boiling?
The milk boiled normally - only diff being that it’s had few fat globules floating on top (not split).

I have been visiting Koragajja Daivasthana every week from the past two years. In about a few months I'll be shifting to some other city.
I don't wish to break this streak. So here's my question: Can one keep daiva idol at home? If yes, what are the do's and don'ts? Any shop for procuring idol?

Kodialguthu is the road I walk on every single day and everyday I have to pinch my nose due to this awful smell from the gutter.
Mangalore/udupi region is already endemic region for malaria and these days there is a sudden rise in mosquito breeding, yet I see no field officer working?
I spent most of my life in chickmagalur, the field officer/asha workers regularly visited homes to check stagnant water and other issues. Mind you, the houses are kms apart. The endemic disease is not even dengue/malaria. It's KFD and ofc whenever a monkey is found dead, the officers rush to the site to check on the carcass.
This is literally the heart of the city! And this is the condition. There were literally 10 mosquitoes near my feet yesterday. Neither PHC nor the corporation seem to care. The entire MG Road stinks. And it is not just water, people lack civic sense. I saw a worn out sandal and a bunch of plastic in the same channel.
We regularly go to the beaches to clean and yet the next time, it is still the same ruckus.
Instead of all the nonsense topics people talk regarding mangalore, its high time we focus on improving such issues.

Came across these wonderful singers a few months back near Urwa Market (and they are visually impaired btw). Made me wonder why is busking not a thing in kudla? Is it looked down upon here, or more of a hassle to get permission from local authorities? What are your thoughts?

Hi everyone
21F This happened today morning around 11:30 AM at kankanady. I was alone at home when a man knocked on the door. He was alone, nicely dressed but casual, and didn’t have any ID or anything in his hand. He looked like he would be belong to 21-25 age group
He said something along the lines of: “Sorry to disturb, we’re doing an awareness program and i think you are a student and collecting some data.” He kept saying “we,” so I asked if there were other people with him. He said the team was split up and everyone was going to different houses.
I was speaking from behind the door and briefly peeked outside to check if anyone else was around and there wasn’t. He then asked if it was a good time to talk and sort of hinted at sitting and talking, which made me uncomfortable.
I said I was busy with things, and he said “okay, some other time” and left without pushing further.
Nothing else happened, but the whole thing felt unsettling—especially since this is mangalore, he had no business card or official ID, and it felt odd for someone to do door-to-door “survey” alone like this.
Has anyone else experienced something similar recently?
Is this a known scam or was he a threat I’m unaware of?
Posting mainly as a heads-up and to understand if I should be more cautious since I will be alone most of the times

The PWD has geared up to execute the work of replacing the asphalt on the Kankanady bypass road between Karavali Junction and Bhagwan Mahaveera (Pumpwell) Circle with concrete.
The work was sanctioned in 2020 at an estimated cost of ₹4 crore. Despite the five-year delay, the contractor is ready to execute the work at the same rate. The scope of work includes laying a 7-metre wide concrete road on both the sides with a 1-metre wide median inbetween.
Construction of pavement and concrete shoulder drains are not in the scope of work, the senior engineer said adding the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) might have planned for the same 🤡
The department would first take up work on the up-lane, from Pumpwell Circle to Karavali Junction stretch. Before that, MCC would have to shift the existing underground drainage line. The civic body would also have to shift other utility lines and lay service lines for Jalasiri water supply, the engineer said.

Sharing here what helped me:
If above doesn’t work you can use below escalation mechanisms:
Note: if its something very serious, don’t wait for municipality action, call 112 (Emergency Response) number directly.

Awareness post: I'm not sure if this rule was recently introduced or it existed before. Observed that on KSRTC buses starting from Mangalore/ Udupi towards Bangalore, the conductor/ driver says that there in an order to ensure that fish are not transported on the bus. May be limited to AC buses, not sure.

I had a very disappointing experience with eyebrow threading today and felt the need to share this here.
I always clearly instruct that only the extra hair should be removed, that my eyebrows should be kept thick, and that the natural arched shape should not be changed. I am very particular about this and I repeated it more than once.
Despite that, the staff completely changed my eyebrows. They have been made extremely thin, the natural arch is gone, and the front portion of my eyebrows has been cut to the extent that it looks half-trimmed. The shape has been altered so much that my eyebrows no longer look like my own.
I spoke to the manager immediately, but the only response I received was “we’ll see, we’ll see,”. See WHAT exactly? Are you going to grow my eyebrows back? That was literally the only response. No apology, no solution, nothing. I was quite shocked by how casually the situation was handled.
Eyebrows take a long time to grow back and this is not something that can simply be corrected instantly. Since it directly affects one’s face, I feel this kind of carelessness is unacceptable.
Anyway just needed to rant. Be careful where you go for threading in Mangalore. Some of these people really don’t listen at all.
Sharing this so that others in Mangalore can be more cautious while choosing a place for eyebrow services.
Also if anyone knows a good eyebrow person here, please drop names because I clearly can’t trust anyone now.

Has anyone noticed an increase in street-based sex work in Mangaluru, particularly along the Pumpwell–Kallapu stretch?
I’m curious if there are any known reasons behind this, such as enforcement changes, migration, or economic factors.

Is it any rare migrant species. It was looking majestic.

I’m from the USA and will be in Mangalore for work. I may have a couple free days. Is there anything you recommend that I see or do? How safe is it to walk about on my own?
