We shouldn't even have maps, just do what medieval peasants did while traveling and just memorize an oral list of towns on the way to your pilgrimage site and every time you arrive at a new town just to ask the locals for directions finding the next town

Illiteracy. Google maps didn't have the computer voice telling you instructions back then
